English teacher faces tough questions following 'sick-day'

Management, staff discontented by teacher's overly quick health recovery

TOKYO, Japan (GTA) -- Controversy surrounding Christopher Quint refused to die down after the 24-year old teacher proceeded to take a day off of work Friday, while coming back healthy the following day--showing only slight signs of illness.

According to Christopher, he had come down with a nasty 'cold' and was unable to teach that day. He claims his condition would have caused prevented him from fulfilling his teaching duties while also putting Eikaiwa students at risk. However, school management became suspicious in regards to just how severe Christopher's alleged 'cold' was after Chris seemed to recover quite fine by Saturday.

"You know, I felt pretty much better the next day," Chris explained. "I guess I could have worn one of those surgical masks and everything, but I didn't think it was necessary. I took a bunch of these pills that could have easily been intended for PMS. But, anyway, they did the trick."

Movie rental controversy still looms

However, the GTA has now learned from an anonymous source that Christopher had in fact gone outside of his house Friday at noon and walked 10 minutes to a video store where he then preceded to rent all three of the X-Men movies on his supposed 'sick' day. This new turn of events seems to contradict Chris' claim made the previous day that he was 'too sick' to go outside.

"Chris called Friday and said he was too sick," explained school manager Yumie Fujimori. "So we offered to take him to the hospital if he came down to the school but Chris said he was just too sick to go out at all."

"You really need to think about this logically," Waseda mathematics professor Seiji Hoshino explained using the following power point presentation.

A = ONE SHOULD BE EXPECTED TO SEEK MEDICAL ATTENTION IF THEY ARE UNABLE TO WORK.
B = IF ONE DOES NOT NEED TO GO TO THE HOSPITAL, THEY MUST BE WELL ENOUGH TO WORK.
C = BY GOING TO THE HOSPITAL, IT IS REASONABLE TO BELIEVE THE PERSON IS WELL ENOUGH TO GO TO WORK.

"We can assume that if A, B, and C are true. Christopher has no case. It is clearly mathematically impossible for our poor, sick boy to take a day off due to his "cold-like" symptoms."

"What the hell? I tell them I'm too sick, and they offer to take me to the hospital if I take a 45-minute train ride to work? That's going to make me feel better?" Christopher said defending his actions. "No thanks. All I need is some pills, orange juice, and some (expletive) TV. Now, when I go back to work, all I hear is everyone say, 'Wow! You look like YOU got better quick!'"
