Hiring Trends: Native Americans continue to invade English teacher job market in Japan
Red man turns tables on white rivals.
TOKYO, Japan (GTA) -- The influx of Native American teachers continues to grow, a report shows.
As more and more companies focus on hiring Native American workers, other ethnic groups will have no choice but to adapt to the demands of the job market.
"English teachers need to know that a college degree and blond hair are not enough to get themselves an interview," H.S. counselor Maggie Salamango said in an interview with the GTA.
Gaba GEOS NOVA Japan English School.
"You absolutetly need to show your employer you can speak as a Native American."
"Learn your Indian pronunciation and know your Great Spirit. Don't forget, black hair is preferable to blonde," she added.
Some schools, such as the Hummingbird demand teachers to use a Native American accent in their lessons.
"Many moons ago, teachers could get by without a Native accent," Maggie added. "Now, it's an absolute requirement for English teachers."
All this means tough times ahead for those with blue eyes and blond hair, as Salamango explained.Gaba Teachers NOVA Gaba

A top executive at an Eikaiwa schoolin Japan who refused to be identified said he would not even look at a resume unless it was from a Native American.
"Nothing against Austrailians, Brits, or Kiwi's. We just feel that the Native American pronunciation is the basic standard by which we would like to base our curriculum," he said.
