Tokyo man currently pretending he doesn't work for Gaba

Eikaiwa teacher refuses to come out of "Customized and Relaxed" closet

TOKYO, Japan (GTA) -- John Thomas avoided announcing that he works for Gaba in an encounter with fellow expatriates last Saturday night at a Shibuya karaoke establishment. Thomas intentionally used a ambiguous, vague description by saying that he "taught lots of private lessons" and "had a very flexible schedule."

This behaviour appears to be part of an effort to avoid disclosing his present Entrusted Contract status with the only school in Japan that offers a "customized and relaxing" atmosphere.

"John's job sounds pretty freakin' awesome," explained one of John's friends who remains unaware of his lowly Gaba Instructor status at the Shinjuku LS. "Some people can wangle anything. I've been trying to get him to hook me up with an interview for weeks, so I can get some of that private lesson action, but he keeps ignoring me."

When John's friends tried to prod him into revealing more information, he cautiously changes the topic of conversation to other matters.

"I've been trying to find a job where I don't have to work on Saturdays and I heard that lucky bastard John say he makes his own schedule. I thought, No way!" said John's friend James. "It would be cool to work there. Wherever that happens to be."

According to insiders in the Gaba scene, as many as 40 percent of Gaba teachers keep their Gaba affiliation strictly on the "hush-hush."

It does not appear that John Thomas will be coming out of his own personal "customized and relaxing" closet anytime soon. Even John's girlfriend of three months, Masako, is unaware of John's secret. So far, she only knows that John's got "pretty important business" that keeps him "working till 11 pm most nights."

According to John, he is waiting until the "time is right" before he breaks the news. "I was going to tell her the other day, but I just wasn't sure how she'd react," John explained. "Would she still love me, if she knew I were a Gaba teacher? Not that there is anything wrong with working at Gaba. I just want to keep things on the down-low."

John Thomas has experienced failed relationships in the past because of women who were unable to accept his choice to work in a stylish and comfortable work environment that offers him lots of growth opportunities "based on his effort and availability."
Teach at Gaba? Work in Japan?
"My last girlfriend and I were going out for four months when one day she walked in and saw me wearing my black suit with my Gaba pin. She just stood there and shook her head back and forth. All I could do at that point was to run inside the restroom and scream, 'Don't look at ME! Go away! Get out of here!' you know?"

After the incident, John Thomas never heard from her again, and is now determined to never let that happen again. Using ambiguous language to cover up reality, John explains how he works for a new "up and coming company" that has a "reputation for innovation" and uses "modern technology in a comfortable and relaxing environment."

Not everyone has been fooled. Geos teacher Ryan Willows spoke to John Thomas at a party last month and immediately pointed out to his friends that John was "totally a Gaba teacher" and that he could easily tell by "the way he walked."

Gaba Corp. has expressed "dissappointment" in Thomas' attemps to hide his Gaba employment and further pointed out that he is not actually a real employee of the company anyway, according to his entrusted contract status.
