EDITORIAL: NOW WE ARE ALL NOVA TEACHERS

Ridiculous sanctions against NOVA must be repealed now

Gaba Teachers Association - July, 2007

In this tragic moment, when words seem so inadequate to express the disgust people feel, the first thing that comes to mind to us is that we are all Nova teachers today! We are all friends of the pink bunny! We are all united members of the same voice room.

Indeed, in the gravest moments of our greatest foe, how can we not feel profound solidarity with the blue and yellow and all that it represents? Let us as Gaba teachers show our Nova comrades that the days of infighting and bickering are over. There is but one Eikaiwa family and we are all its children.

Make no mistake. The charges filed by the Ministry of Business could have just as easily been targeted at a certain green and white square. If no one speaks up for NOVA, who will be left to stand for Gaba?

The sanctions levied against NOVA corp. will not harm the elite members of the ruling Sahashi party and the dominating shareholder class. Instead, these sanctions will ultimately punish those who are the most vulnerable.

The teacher who slaves away while scraping enough change from the bottom of his pockets to purchase the 210 yen box of calorie mate.

The part-time teacher who is unable to rent the new releases from Tsutaya, but eagerly awaits their transfer to the "Still Hot!" section.

The kind Japanese counselor girl who cleans up after us and endures our sexual harrassment, yet only makes 180,000 yen per month and is the last to leave the office.

For years, the blue and the green have been increasingly pitted as rivals. Today, we realize that our only hope for a better future is to unite in brotherhood. That is why, we are all Nova teachers.
