Mr. Brian Winnington

High School Social Studies

Mr. Winnington graduated from Salesianum in 1999, and University of Delaware with a bachelor's in History Education in May 2003. Mr. Winnington married his wife Amanda in July 2003, and has done some student teaching at Mount Pleasant High, as well as teaching one year at Currituck County, NC on the Outer Banks.

World History CP/HN

A survey of world cultures is presented. Beginning in the Middle Ages, units focus on Asian, Middle Eastern, African, and European civilizations. The development of skills in doing research and writing short reports are stressed. The course is open to all students pursuing a college preparatory class.

AP European History

Prerequisite: B average or above in Honors Social Studies, and teacher approval.

The students will follow a chronological study of European history from 1450 to the 1980's. The goals of the AP program in European History are to develop (a) an understanding of some of the principal themes in modern European history, (b) and ability to analyze historical evidence, and (c) an ability to analyze and express historical understanding in writing.

Ancient Civilizations

The course focuses on the development of the world;s earliest civilizations. Units included Ancient Africa, Mesopotamia, China, Americas and India. We will also look at the classical civilizations of Greece & Rome.
