Treasure Hunting 101

by lexfa

You too can learn to hunt for hidden treasure! With a little practice and some patience, it's easy to earn thousands of NP in only a few minutes a day. These simple tips will show you how.

First off, take lots of notes. Keep careful track of the clues you find and where they lead, you never know when you may run into the same clue again. Once you find a clue successfully, I suggest marking the spot for later reference by adding it to your Bookmarks or Favourites. As your Hunt progresses, the clues become scrambled, and your notes become even more important.

Clues can sometimes be hidden in plain sight. If you think you've found the right shop or game and there's no clue, try refreshing the page. You may have to dig around a few times before it shows up. If there's still no sign, try looking inside, play the game, and browse through the wares. More than once I've found a clue beyond the front door. Take your time! There's no time limit between one clue and the next, so if you're stumped, take a break and come back to it. Play a game or two with your pets, they may give you a fresh perspective on the problem.

Don't be surprised if it seems you're going around in circles. I've often found different clues leading to the same page over the course of a Hunt. I once made five trips to one location to find a single map piece. If you do need to revisit a location, be sure you're not finding the exact same clue twice. Check your notes. (You are taking notes, right?) Did you find this same clue the last time you were in this spot? If so, your computer is loading the page from your local cache; keep refreshing until you get a new clue. You can also check back with the Treasure Hunt Shoyru, he'll remind you of the last real clue you found to make sure you're on the right track.

You've been to every place you can think of, refreshed a dozen times, and still no sign of your next clue. All those scrambled words are beginning to look like alphabet soup, now what? When all seems hopelessly lost, don't be afraid to ask for help! There are plenty of experienced Hunters out there willing to share their knowledge with new seekers. A polite note on the Help or Quest chat boards often yields a quick push in the right direction. I for one am happy to answer your Treasure Hunting questions via Neomail.

Finally, your biggest asset in Treasure Hunting is persistence. Don't give up! According to my notes, I've followed no fewer than twenty-one clues to find a single shred of the Space Map. One particularly rare fragment led me through a total of thirty-five clues before finally revealing itself. It takes nine different pieces to form a finished map, and some are rarer than others, so you may end up with a few duplicates along the way.

Each finished Space Map leads to a horde of Neopoints and rare items, but even the pieces themselves can be sold for a tidy sum. This combination makes Treasure Hunting one of the best ways to learn about Neopia, and one of the most profitable. Good luck, and happy Hunting!
