Welcome to AP Human Geo! This website will be your wired guide for AP survival... which could very easily include 2 extra points toward your GPA and/or free college credits when you pass the AP exam on Friday May 16th, 2008!

So what exactly is Human Geography?   Geography is everything and everything is geography... and that is exactly the philosophy that what we will take throughout the school year (and hopefully for the rest of our lives).  The attempt to better understand the world around us in order to make it a better place.  Human Geography allows students to better understand human issues in the geographical world.  Issues such as world population, border disputes, and international conflicts, to name a but a few.  In addition, students are exposed to economic theories and models, as well as the spread of world religions and the origins and diffusion of languages.  Students also study urban development, industrialization, and city planning, often experiencing these topics firsthand through field trips.  So remember... Geography is everything and everything is geography.

HINTS FOR EXCELLENCE:

These 'hints' are not meant to displace your own well-developed methods of studying, they are just things I have picked up over the years...

1.  Do the readings (whether from the textbook or an assigned reading) and take some form of

     notes on the reading.

2.  Make a conscious effort to incorporate the ideas of the class into your own intellectual

framework and relate the ideas to your own experiences.

4.  Ask questions!  If the time does not seem right, ask me before class, after class, after school,

e-mail me, or see me on Wednesdays during my after school study sessions.

5.  Keep handouts and other materials in good order! (Put the date on them, keep them in a

notebook or journal, and read them making sure that you see a connection between the material

     and class.

6. Stay on pace!  Do not let several chapters of readings pile up.  Quizzes should keep you on

    track though...

"As a young man, my fondest dream was to become a geographer.  However, while working in the customs office I thought deeply about the matter and concluded that it was far too difficult

a subject.  With some reluctance, I then turned to physics as a substitute."

-Albert Einstein
