My Search for GOD

I took a day to search for God
And found him not
But as I trod by rocky ledge,
Through woods untamed
Where one scarlet lily flamed
I saw his footprints in the sod

Then suddenly in the deep shadows,
Where the solitary hermit thrush
Sang on holy twilight hush,
I heard his voice in the air.

And in a stir of wind that
Barley shook the Poplar trees
Beside the brook
I felt his had upon his brow

At last with evening as I
turned homeward, I thought
of all that I had seen and all
There was still yet to probe,
I saw the Glory of his Robe
Where the last fires of sunset burned

And then back to earth with
Quickening start, I looked and
Longed for any part of making
Saving beauty be..and from this
Kindling estacy I knew that
God dwells in my heart....
