The Digital Grotto

Oh god, I bought a 64k flash card a few hours earlier, so I took 200 photos without ever needing to erase any. I had to be indiscriminate, so these are the best 74 photos.

We got to the show a little early, and walked around for a bit. Our wandering took us to the Mac's, where Nels made a humongous slurpee garnished with gummy worms.

It looked like a while before things would start happening, so we went back to my place to drop off his things. I showed Nels the pool and gym, and found out he actually knows how to use the equipment.

He tried the bench press machine, thinking he could easily lift 70 pounds. Turned out to be 70 kilograms, but he still lifted it.

Twist!

Again! Like we did last summer!

We went back to the hall, and followed Jenn to the liquor store. In search of a corkscrew, we entered Army & Navy, where Nels found this hat.

I took this photo to show him what he looked like, and to convince him to spend the $2 on the thing.

When I asked Nardwuar if I could take his photo, he of course had to put on a show. Here you can see him preparing to take a dive into the strong arms of Big Eric, Little Eric, Rich, that guy with the Soviet flag, and two girls.

It took Greg like 20 minutes to make this little origami smokestack.

All the while, Jenn was jonesin'.

I shot this photo, and the lighting was perfect. This was the setting I used for most of the rest of the show: automatic flash with 1/4 second exposure. This creates a sharp image followed by a faint afterimage; that's why it sometimes looks like Nardwuar's shirt is melting, or why there are slashes of light over the subjects.

I tested it on this handsome devil.

When the evaporators took the stage, the air grew colder. The creeky voice of the lead Goblin caused my back hair to stand on end, as he asked me "Hey Jon, what were the other two bands who played?"

That red eclipse-halo is the shadow of the mirror-ball.

The EVAPORATORS!!

I think Nardwuar looks like Raymond here.

Ah, James. He stayed outside for the whole freaking show.
