Round

March 16, 2002
Louisiana SuperDome
New Orleans LOUISIANA
Ricky Carmichael & Chad Reed continue to dominate ....
250 Main Event: The holeshot went to Tim Ferry on his big-bore
Yamaha.
At the end of the first lap, Tim was leading, with Nate Ramsey
second,
and Ricky Carmichael third. Nate fell, so it was Ferry, RC, and
then
David Vuillemin. Then Ferry fell, so it was RC, Vuillemin, and
then
Stephane Roncada.
Stephane passed David, so it was RC, Stephane, and then David.
David
showed a great deal of courage by racing this weekend, as he's
still
riding with a sore shoulder suffered almost two weeks ago. After
the race
was over, David stopped in front of the starting gate, took off
his
jersey, and immediately had ice put on. He looked to be in a lot
of pain.
The top three guys held their positions until the end: Ricky
wins,
Stephane second, and David third. Jeremy McGrath took home fourth
position.
RC now leads Vuillemin by 10 in the points chase, 209 - 199.
125 East Main Event: Kelly Smith had the holeshot. But Chad Reed
was
leading by the end of lap one. He was followed by Steve Boniface
and
Branden Jesseman. Grant Langston was back in the pack.
Chad Reed was running out front. But then a few laps into the
race,
Grant Langston passes Chad. Now it's Langston leading, with Chad
second.
Was it smart riding by Chad to maybe let Grant go past? Chad
doesn't
need to battle with anyone, or even win races to secure the
championship
at this point in the season.
Both Grant and Chad were going really fast, and they left the
rest of
the field behind. But with a couple laps left, Grant had a
problem while
lapping Barry Carsten. Grant had to hesitate a bit, and Chad went
by
him on the inside.
Chad went on to win, with Grant second, and Larry Ward third.
It's
Chad's fifth win in a row.
NOTES: Suzuki did not have any factory riders in the 250 class.
Travis
Pastrana did not race because he is getting tested by doctors to
find
out why he's been feeling weak and sick with flu-like symptoms.
And
Kevin Windham did not race due to a broken leg suffered a few
weeks ago.
Sebastien Tortelli also did not compete. He fell in practice,
bruised his
back, and decided not race. He should be back next weekend for
Houston.
