Children and Passports :
Children under 16 years of age, who are Irish Citizens, may be included on
a
parents passport and can travel to most countries up to their 16th birthday
without a separate passport. Children may be included, at no extra cost, when
you or your spouse are applying for a new passport. However, if you already
hold a valid passport it is not possible, for security reasons, to have it
amended
in any way. Therefore, if you wish to include the name of a child under 16
years
of age, or have other changes made, you have the option of applying for an
exchange passport, or a new full passport. The procedures to be followed in
either case are the same as for a standard application but in addition the
childs
long form birth certificate and the witnessed consent of the other parent,
on the
Pas M form, must be submitted.
In all cases the application for a Passport for a child, or for the inclusion
of a
child on a parents passport, must be accompanied by the written witnessed
consent of both parents, on the Pas M form. Applicants claiming to be either
an infants sole legal guardian, or unable to get the consent of the other
guardian,
should contact the Passport Office, Molesworth Street, Dublin, Cork, or, if
abroad, the nearest Irish embassy or Consulate for advice.
You should apply for your passport at least 6 weeks before you plan to
travel. Applications which are incomplete in any respect cannot be processed
without further reference to the applicant. This delays the issuance of the
passport. You are asked therefore to complete your application form carefully
and fully.
For your convenience you are encouraged to make your application by post.
Those residing in the state are encouraged to use the new passport express
service.
At present you still require a valid Irish Passport for travel to all EU countries,
except Great Britain.
