Armchair Martian B-sides and other stuff

Thanks to Eric "Educated Idiot"Hinkle for typing some of
these, and for helping with others.  Also thanks to Steven
Garcia for providing the official lyrics for his songs,
and for helping with the others, telling the Hulk story, etc.

If you have information about other b-sides or compilation tracks that aren't listed here, or if you have additional information about any of these listings, please provide it in the space below.  By the way, I had the html for this box screwed up, so if you've ever tried to tell me something here, I never got it.

--dumb

written and sung by Steven Garcia
from "Happy Meals Volume 1" -- My Records

you stare my way, eyes red you say
"that wasn't you"
drunken eyes roll back in your head
tell me tell me it wasn't you
you'll be fine alone
play the game and put me down
lose a friend where no one's found
starry eyed and gagged and bound
the one who's dumb enough to stick around
the one who's dumb enough to stick around

fate or just bad timing, you're sad
i forgot your name
you'll be dead alone
play the game and put me down
lose a friend where no one's found
starry eyed and gagged and bound
the one who's dumb enough to stick around
the one who's dumb enough to stick around

now you'll be fine alone
play the game and put me down....

--...screws in

from "Xenophobe" cd single -- Headhunter/Cargo Records

screw me in just like the last time, caving in
caving in i'm holding out just
even we try, but the reason why
screw me in i'm holding out, just
it's fine for just letting go one time
it's fine in time, it's just killing time
that you waste one more time

cruising and what's it about, rolling in
holding in and i'm holding out just
screw me in time
so i'm not fine
screw me in, i'm caving in just
it's fine time, for just letting go what's mine
it's fine in time, it's just killing time
that you waste one more time

you don't have to try
it's time enough to need it, time enough for saying goodbye
goodbye
it's time enough to need it, time enough for saying goodbye

you don't have to cry anymore cause we'll
all just end up saying goodbye
goodbye
if there's time to need it, time enough to say goodbye...

--give in

written and sung by Steven Garcia
from "Xenophobe" cd single -- Headhunter/Cargo Records
lyrics originally typed by Eric "Educated Idiot" Hinkle, and then re-typed by Steven Garcia

Steve says: "O.K., here's the whole song....and ya' know, it was on the same session as Blast and well....I just don't sing like THAT!!!   anyhows....here it is:"

I've wanted so much, to strip this mask off of my face.
And maybe let you see, inside these plastic gates
But stripping comes easy, and its not what I want to show and I give in too quickly
When I know that I should go.
Why can't I remember all the times I let you down
I cried under my make-up, when you thought I was the clown.
I shed a little light, then we end up shedding clothes
And I give in too quickly, when I know that I should go.
I give in...
Why should I even bother, to stay away from sin?
Because quick or slowly I'll eventually give in.
And true emotions are somewhere hiding in the snow.
And I give in too quickly, when I know that I should go.
I give in.......

--the credible hulk

from "Xenophobe" cd single -- Headhunter/Cargo Records
lyrics typed by Eric "Educated Idiot" Hinkle

'Cause he's the hulk, he's not a bad man
Misunderstood, does what he can man, tries to be good
You understand, man?
Hulk...
He is a guy and another guy, he's Bill Bixby and Lou Ferigno
Two, two guys -- one Hulk

"Last name Hulk first name Incredible"

He's walkin' down that lonely highway
He's got a jacket and a duffel bag
Mr. McGee, only wants to see -- Hulk
He's on the run to the next town
Busted shoes to walk around town
Sleeveless arms and ripped up jeans he's
Hulk
Incredible-Hulk...

Here are Steve's details on the story behind this song and the Bill Bixby thing:

"Man, its a real funny joke...well for us it was.
O.K., see, first things first, WE think we're geniuses.  Me and Jon, we've been like this since we were kids.  He says I threw a rock at his head, I say I don't remember but I was hangin' out with Lance Dugan at the time and he made me do some stupid shit.....anyhows....so at some point we got some dough to do some demos, that's the same sessions as Jessica Suicide, Blast, Give In, Hulk and Communion came from.  So why we did Hulk was 'cause we'd heard that some guy was putting together a comp of tv show theme songs (if you've ever heard it there's NUFAN doing Laverne & Shirley) and we're tryin' real hard to get on it 'cause at this point we really don't have a whole lot goin' on.  So this Hulk thing was sorta taking the theme song music from the old CBS tv show, putting it to guitar (all from memory 'cause we hadn't even seen that show in years) and then me and Jon sat down and wrote out those crazy lyrics together.  We recorded it and at the end its me, Jon and Paul making all that racket.  The tv show comp guys didn't want to have ANYTHING to do with us.  They didn't GET the genius behind the joke.  And Bill Bixby is the guy who played David Banner on the show (Lou Ferigno played the Hulk), but Mr. Bixby died several years ago.  I'm not sure if we knew this at the time.  Anyhows...on that one verse its not "he's gonna be" its "Mr. McGee, only wants to see Hulk."  See, on the show there was this reporter named Mr. McGee who followed David Banner/Hulk all around."

--breaking down again

from "The New Frontier" -- Soda Jerk Records

i know this takes me far too long
and i'm breaking than
if you could see me you could team up with the others to kill
killing off endangered strangers now
i know we're breaking down
i know we're breaking down again

breaking down, we're breaking down again
breaking down, we're breaking down a...
you know that i, i deserve a better lie than
it's safer that i sell out
if you could see me you could team up with the others to kill
killing off endangered strangers now
i know we're breaking down
breaking down, we're breaking down again
breaking down, we're breaking down again
and if i move it all, i'll win
it's like i'm shedding all of my skin
but it's a better way to begin

--not fine

from the Blasting Room comp -- O&O Records

This is a demo version that contains virtually no lyrical differences from the album version.

--xenophobe (7" version)

I came around again, they say I lost my mind.
And you'd know that mine was the hardest one to find.
So I'm a xenophobe, my car without a mind.
Speeding a bee line and either or will soar this time.
Come around again, pretend to be my friend.
Because I'll be waiting for you, for the hate to end, now.
Come around again, pretend to be my friend.
Because I'll be waiting for you, for the hate to end.
Xenophobe, he drove a car with rocket fins.
And he ate with his hands, he knew where they'd been.
Xenophobe, he was in love with her and then.
Then he hated her, hated her because of him.
Come around again, pretend to be my friend.
Because I'll be waiting for you, for the hate to end, now.
Come around again, pretend to be my friend.
Because I'll be waiting for you, for the hate to end, now....

Come around again, pretend to be my friend.
Because I'll be waiting for you, yeah and I'll be waiting for you.
Come around again, pretend to be my friend.
Because I'll be waiting for you all.
Another one to see with you, another one to see with you.
Another one to be with you, been down down down.
Another one to be with you, another one to see with you.
Another one to be with you, been down down.

--barely passing (7" version)

Feel I'm barely passing.
This could almost drag me down.
My heart, it barely pounds.
And breaking in my spine.
This could almost drag me down.
My heart, it barely pounds.
Cut me through the middle.
I could waste it all the time.
Walk right off the edge, I'm fine.
Dropping off, your face is now.
This could almost drag me down.
My heart, it barely pounds.

Almost broke in two, cut in two.
Like I'm half of someone.
Do the things like you, barely knew.
I'll grow into loved ones.
Almost cut in two, broke in two.
Like I'm half of someone.
Do the things like you, barely knew.
I'll grow into loved ones.

--i'm not ready

Written, sung, and typed by Steven Garcia.
From the Barely Passing 7"

She dictates my every breath.
She'll flatter herself with things like that.
Find herself down in debt but I'm not ready yet.
She writes down what I've said,
puts it in my face 'till I've re-read.
Say something I forget but I'm not ready yet.
No fun, feel sick, no fun...
Hey son why don'cha find your head.
She'll try and call my hand, disconnected and disbanded.
She can have what she can find, I might lose my mind.
No fun...

I'm not ready yet
Cowards way or be controlled.  Do what you're told....
No fun...
I couldn't be alone with you.
But I could be lonely with you.....

--whipping boy

from "Happy Meals 3" -- My Records

This is a Lagwagon cover (written by Joey Cape), and the lyrics below are what Jon sings, which is slightly different from the original version.

Lyrics typed by Eric "Educated Idiot" Hinkle.

Now it’s simple to me
Sometimes you have to let go
When there’s next to nothing
She says yes every time he says no
more pain than love
Push comes to shove almost every time you speak
Somehow you fight
Somehow you’re crazy
Somehow it’s taking all the life left in you

You’re losing ground
Carrying that torch
You ain’t asking for much
Still somehow she’s had time to heal
And she doesn’t need you any longer and you
Had time to drink
you call her to tell her you’ve gotten much stronger
At three in the morning she says stop calling
‘cause everyone’s asleep
some of us work
you’re driving me crazy
I’ve learned to get on with my life

now every night’s Friday night
picking fights with your friends
you’re trying to make amends
you search for comfort in a friend
it ain’t the same
she don’t understand
you both learned to think alike
what was so wrong
where’s she tonight?
Out there drinking while you’re left home thinking
It’s taken all the life left in you

You’re losing ground
Carrying that torch
You ain’t asking for that much
Still somehow you’ll wait for her
You say she’ll return
But you still carry that torch
That girl
Whipping boy
