Sanzo's real name is Koryu. He was found by Sanzo Hoshi which is another Sanzo Monk. He is given the task to take into custody a so called 'monkey' Son Goku which he met  500 years before. He is asked to take on the mission together with Cho Hakkai and Sha Gojo to head to west to restore peace among demons and humans. And so the journey continues......He gets pissed off easily and is a heavy smoker and drinker.

Hakkai was previously known as Cho Gonou. He suffered a lot when his girlfriend  killed herself because she carried a demon's child. He killed over a 1000 demons and became a demon himself. He later makes friends with Gojo and after they meet with Sanzo and Goku unexpectedly.He is extremely gentle and takes care of hakuryu.

Gojo is half human. He has an older step brother who works for Prince kougaiji. As a child he was traumatized when his step-mother tried to kill him and later she was killed by his brother. Everytime his mother looked at his red hair and eyes she cried and this left him very hurt. He is a good friend to Hakkai and understands how he feels. He loves women and cigarettes.

Son Goku known as the 'monkey' can destroy everything and everyone if not controlled. So the Gods made a special tiara in order to control his power. Sanzo saved him when he was locked in a prison for 500 years and he became very protective of Sanzo. His weakness is that he is always hungry.
