In the series there is a background story to it. Namely the Princess of the
Left and the demon. Buts that is not the only thing you will find on this
page. In the second volume, Oboro gives us a background story on each of
the Lunar Race Members, you will also find that here as well. These Background
stories I took word from word from the manga, and also a surname little ditty
thing-a-ma-bob.
When
the oldest daughter of
the Minister of the Left was still a little girl, she once met a demon child
who found his way into her house. The two became fast friends during his
brief stay, and the daughter promised to marry the demon one day... but as
the months and years passed after making her promise, the princess' memories
began to fade and she soon dismissed her childhood promise as something she'd
merely dreamed of.
So, when the princess reached a marriageable age, she was chosen and agreed to become the Emperor's bride and make her entry into the Imperial Court. However... The night before her entry to the court, her demon raided the house of the Minister of the Left, supported by a legion of other demons and ghouls. This enraged the princess, breaking her promise from their youth. During the course of the raid... the princess was taken away and claimed by her demon.
Her father forced action immediately after and gathered an army of his city's noble men and mightiest warriors, marched onward to the demon's lair, deep in the mountains. The Minister's force was able to smite the demon; and return the princess to her home. While the princess would no longer be accepted into the Imperial family, she married the commander of the troops sent to rescue her instead.
And they lived happily ever after.
"It is because of this precedent that all children were told never to make promises with a demon... even if they believed their promise to be just a dream*" - Mahiru's Thoughts.
*It was said that even though it seems like a dream, don't sell your soul to the devil.

Nozomu "Nozomu was the result of a union between an enlishman and a young woman who also happened to descend from a clan of demons here in Japan. His father was a powerful Vampire, powerful enough not only to walk in sunlight, but to exist as you and I... an ability obviosly inherited by Nozomu as you've witnessed for yourself." |
|
Akira "Akira was born in North Eastern Japan. He lost his parents early on, Just like you, Princess... But the werewolf population up there is ample and tight, so he was fortunate enough to grow up happily, with the love of his extended family." |
|
Misoka "Misoka grew up in the moon palace where both he and his mother, a werefox, worked in my service. When his mother passed away after an illness though, I took him under my wing." |
|
Katsura "As for Katsura, she lives the first half of the month as a woman, and the last half as a man. She's a hermaphrodite technically ... but sex will change completely every half-month. Katsura is what's known as a dream demon, but don't worry, I believe she'll make a great confident to you." |
|
Mitsuru "As for Mitsuru ... I'm sure you've already deduced this, but he was indeed a ward of the state in the human world for some time. Even after pulling a few strings, it was only a year ago that we were finally able to take him in to our fold. We conscider ourselves blessed, however, that we were able to get him before he became an adult." |
In the second volume of the manga series, in the back where the writer talks about the series, she tells us a little bit about the Lunar Race and Surnames.
Lunar Race members don't actually have surnames, or last names, not tradtionally. They recieve names from their parents based on their guardian colors (how this works I don't know). They use their guardian colors as their surnames, since surnames is a big thing in the human world, it's very inconvient if you don't have one.
Suoh (Mitsuru's) |
Moegi (Nozomu's) |
Yamabuki (Akira's) |
Asagi (Misoka's) |
Shirogane (Emperor of the Lunar Race, it's actually his first name, but the color is most associated with the moon.) |
