For those of you into saltwater aquariums you need to know the basics. You need an aquarium of any size, dechlorinater, water of course, a good marine salt mix, and crushed coral live sand to make your water like the oceans. You need to fill your tank with dechlored water add salt to 1023( pickup a hydrometer to measure the salt), add live coral sand to balance your ph. Ocean fish need the same high ph as in the ocean so coral sand slowly dissolves to keep this balance. Next you need to pick your filtration. A canister filter, protein skimmer and internal wave filter are ideal. Check our package deals to see different combinations.Canister filter use mechanical filter pads(cleans particles out of the water, bio media to hold bacteria( bacteria are live and eat biological waste- important as waste buildup both liquid and solid will kill your fish), and carbon for chemical filtration. Protein skimmers agitate the water to break of gases and proteins in your water, and internal filters prefilter and simulate wave action like in the ocean.Last of all you need a good heater to balance temperature. Lighting depending on what you keep, fish, live coral or both is important, a minimum of 65 watt 50/50 light is recommended.(50 daylight,50 actinic) Add fish and your ready to go.
