Conventions

Ahhh... conventions. Anime Conventions aren't a "Loyola-sponsored" trip. Of course, being the anime kids we are, quite a large population of the Anime Club attend conventions yearly. Lucky for us, the Chicago area has two major conventions: Anime Reactor and Anime Central. Anime Central is the biggest convention in the whole Midwest! If you like to watch anime, buy rare anime goods, or like to cosplay (more on this further down) I highly suggest spending a day or more at the conventions!

Con Reports

ACEN 2004:
This was my first convention, and it was just plain awesome! Some of the cosplayers' costumes just looked unbelievable! You'd have to see them to believe that someone could pull off such a detailed costume! There were anime screenings going on for a plethora of anime series, but I didn't watch any however. The Anime Music Video contest was pretty cool too, and my favorite one had to be "Tainted Donuts." The dealer's room had a great deal of merchandise, ranging from CDs, to manga, to dvds, kimonos, and even swords. Another highlight of the weekend were the hallway musicians. I knew one of the hallway musicians who played throughout the night, and I hung out listening to them often-times.

Cosplay!

What isn't there to be said about cosplay? Cosplay is short for "costume playing". It's when someone dresses up as a character from an anime, manga, video game, movie, book, etc. About 1/3 of all con-goers cosplay. Cosplay is a lot of fun from what I've heard from people, and a good way to express yourself during a convention.
