Chapter 2

Hello, my name is Sarah.

No last name, just Sarah. If I told you, they would be able to find me. That could possibly mean the end of the human race if it happened.

I watched Hatori take Yuki Sohma and Tohru Honda back to where ever they lived. I turned around to stare at Akito. He had a scowl on his face, but he replaced it with a smile. We smiled at each other for a few long minutes until Momiji asked, “Did you forget how to talk?”

“No,” I replied, “I just am happy to be home again.”

Momiji smiled and gave me yet another hug. I thought to myself, ‘How can this childish creature really be an advanced android from outer space?’

We all went in. I’m not sure where Hatori and Momiji went, but I ended up alone with Akito. After an awkward silence, I decided to speak, “So, um, how have the Yeerks been in Japan?”

He realized I was speaking to him and replied, “More laid low than in America. I don’t think they have many Controllers.”

I replied, “I hope you’re right, Akito.”

He chuckled, “I usually am.”

I knew that we both didn’t like to talk about the Yeerks, so I changed the subject, “So, where will I be staying?”

He replied, “Is your old room fine?”

I said, “Yeah.”

He took me to my room and said, “If you need anything, just ask one of the Chi. If you can’t, the Sohmas should be nice enough.”

He left quickly and silently, leaving me with my bags to unpack. I had three outfits and some other things, but not much. One thing I did have was a picture of two adults holding a baby. This was my only way of seeing my parents because I have no memories of them. Even in this light-hearted picture, they seemed insecure. I suppose my life has been ruined by the Yeerks even before I knew what they were. The Yeerks… they killed my parents the night after I was left with the Chi.

The next few days were pretty boring. Three days after I arrived, I went into Akito’s room. He has holding a dove on his finger. He heard me enter and looked up. At the movement, the bird flew off. I just lightly touched it, and I then felt its DNA flow into my body. The bird immediately calmed down. Akito asked, “So, what do you want?”

I asked, “Can I go out for a flight?”

“Huh?” he asked, “Flight?”

I explained, “Um, well, you know those teenagers in America who have Andalite technology? Well, I sorta joined them.”

He asked, “The Animorphs wanted you?”

I replied, “It was safer than finding someone who doesn’t know about the Yeerks.”

He returned to my previous question, “Sure, go out, but return by sunset. Don’t forget, two hours.”

I groaned, “I know, I know. I don’t wanna be a Nothlit!”

He smiled as I walked off. I returned to my room and took out my morphing suit, a black leotard. I opened my window and morphed the bird I acquired earlier. First, that sinking feeling was in my stomach as I shrunk to bird size. Then, my mouth turned into a beak as feathers grew across my body. My arms became wings, and my feet talons. Finally, it was over.

I jumped up, and flew out the window. I was so high up that the buildings were miniscule with ant-sized people walking around. To get a better view, I flew downward. That was when I noticed three people: Yuki, Tohru, and some orange-haired boy. I flew closer to them. Tohru noticed me and said, “Hello, little bird!”

I replied, (Hello.)

She jumped up out of fright, “Who… What?”

The two boys looked at her. The orange-haired one asked, “Tohru, you alright?”

She mumbled, “A voice… in my head…”

Yuki said, “You sound sick, maybe we should take you home now. Maybe Hatori will no what’s wrong with you.”

I told the three of them, (She isn’t sick. Hatori… won’t know…)

The last part was a lie. Any Chi would know that what she heard was talk-speak.

The three of them glanced around, “Who… who’s there?”

I replied, (We have met, though I do not know who the orange-haired on is.)

Yuki asked, “Where are you?”

I landed on his shoulder, pecked his head, and flew off. Yuki said, “It was a bird?”

They all chased after me. I went into a house with an open window. The three of them followed me. Tohru yelled, “Shigure, we’re home!”

Then orange-hair said, “Yo, bird, who’re you?”

I suddenly realized the time, (WHAT TIME IS IT?!?!?)

Tohru said, “Almost 5 pm…”

My heart was racing; I had morphed a little before 3 pm. Thinking about nothing except for the two hour limit, I morphed human. For a second, nothing happened, and then I grew taller. Before my mouth turned back I said, (I would look away if I was y-)

I was cut off by my mouth reforming. They had all looked away. Seeing a person mid-morph is never pleasant. When I was done, I was in shock. These people… they had seen me morph. I though, ‘Please don’t be controllers, please don’t be controllers…’

I said, “Um… you can look now…”

They all turned around to see me, in my human form. After a moment, Tohru asked, “Are you a Sohma?”

“N… no…” I replied, “Um… isn’t he?”

I motioned toward Yuki. Then I said to orange-hair, “Where are my manners? I don’t think we’ve met. My name is Sarah… um… Sarah…”

He said, “Do you have a last name?”

I lied, “Um… Sarah Smith…”

He said, “Kyo Sohma.”

Then the sun began to set. I started freaking out, “He said to be back by sunset and now it’s sunset. He’s gonna be SO mad!”

Tohru said, “Calm down… Who’s going to be mad?”

I said in barely a whisper, “Akito…”

The three of them looked at me, “AKITO?”

A/N: Shigure, Kyo, Yuki, and Tohru are all human, just so you know.

Just then, another man walked downstairs: Shigure. I tried to bring everyone’s attention off of me, so I said, “Shigure!”

He looked at me, “Sarah? You aren’t in America?”

I said, “Obviously not.”

He asked, “You wanna stay the night?”

I replied, “Um… ok, but can I use your phone?”

He nodded in approval. I walked over to their telephone and dialed Akito. Hatori answered, “Hello.”

“Hello, Hatori.”

“Sarah, where are you?”

“I’m at Shigure’s house; can I spend the night there?”

“I doubt Akito’ll care.”

“Ok, bye bye!”

I hung up and said to Shigure, “Sure, I can stay!”

I ate dinner with them. During dinner, Kyo rudely said, “You dress weird.”

Yuki said, “You dressed a lot better when we first met.”

I wanted badly to explain, but knew I couldn’t, “Well… um…”

Tohru said, “If you don’t want to explain, you don’t have to.”

“Thank you, Tohru.”

Then suddenly, something was scratching on their front door. Tohru went to answer it. She returned with a small… tiger? She asked, “Um is this your family?”

Shigure took the tiger, “Kisa, did you run away from school?”

Suddenly, where was a POOF and a small girl, a small naked girl, in Shigure’s arms. Out of decency, everyone looked away as Tohru got a blanket and wrapped the girl up, “Are you OK?”

Yuki answered for her, “This is Kisa, and she hasn’t been speaking lately.”

Tohru said, “Oh, Kisa, are you alright?”

I stared in amazement, thinking, ‘That was the fastest morph I have ever seen.’

Shigure then turned to me and said, “Um… Sarah… our family is cursed. We become the animals of the zodiac-“

Yuki interrupted, “And an idiotic cat!”

Shigure continued, “when we are put under a lot of stress or are hugged by the opposite gender.”

I couldn’t help but laugh. Kyo said, “It isn’t THAT funny!”

I stopped laughing, “No, it’s not that it’s funny, it just…”

Yuki asked everyone, “What’ll Akito think about you knowing?”

I answered his question, “He won’t care, I don’t think… Wait a minute, are Akito and Hatori and Momiji cursed?”

Shigure replied, “Yes…”

I burst out laughing again. I thought, ‘Cursed Chi, that’s funny!’

Chi can’t be ‘cursed.’ I decided that they must pretend. When I stopped laughing, Tohru remembered Kisa, “Kisa, are you OK?”

The little girl stared up a Tohru. I heard something… something bad. A shuffling of feet outside, clawed feet… HORK-BAJIR!!! I whispered to the others, “Do you mind leaving this room?”

No one budged. The door swung off of its hinges. A harsh voice said, “Little Andalite, where are you?”

The other figure said something in alien. I went into a different room and morphed lion. I heard screaming in the other room, and I rushed in, leaping over the others and onto the first of two Hork-Bajir. It was startled by my arrival and immediately died.

The other said, “Another Andalite? I’m going to be rewarded well.”

It took out a gun. I wondered why it didn’t have some advanced Yeerk weapon, but I was to busy attacking to really care. Within minutes, the Hork-Bajir controller was dead. I glanced down at my paws. I never like killing because it is inhumane (even to evil aliens) and it gets blood on me.

I grabbed one corpse in my teeth and dragged it outside, then did the same with the other. When my cleanup job was done, the Sohmas and Tohru all looked at me with fear in their eyes. I asked,

The all looked around confused. I explained, ( am the lion. Are you scared of me? The Hork-Bajir are the aliens. Are you scared of them?)

As one, they all replied, “Both.”

I chuckled into their heads, (I try to save the earth, including you, and you guys are scared of me…)

Kisa clung onto Tohru. I went up to the little girl, (Did the aliens see you change and follow you here?)

She nodded, then buried her head in the folds of Tohru’s clothes. I said, (I’ll be right back…)

They watched me intently as I walked into a different room to morph. I came back in and washed the blood from my hands. Kyo asked, “Where have you been?”

I replied, “Saving your sorry butts!”

Yuki said, “I do not think I understand.”

“Let me spell it out for you,” I said, “I can… well… um… I’m not really that different from you… I can sort of just…”

Yuki said, “You’re making less sense than when that dumb cat thinks he can beat me.”

I blurted out, “I become animals!”

“WHAT?” I wasn’t sure who asked.

I meekly said, “Look, I don’t wanna talk about it. I’m going home.”

As I started to walk out, Kyo got in my way, “Explain or die.”

I laughed, “You? Beat me?”

He tensed up as if to fight. I feigned a punch to his face, but pulled back just in time. As he was blocking my decoy, I swung my foot behind his legs and tripped him. He was lying flat on his back. I placed one foot on his stomach, “Still think you can beat me?”

I left without another word, but Tohru was suddenly in my way. I politely asked her to move, but she kept her ground as whispered so only I could hear, “I didn’t know an Andalite was on Earth.”

My eyes widened in shock, but I slyly replied, “I think that he’s very nice, but I’m no alien. I’m human, 100%.”

She replied, “With morphing powers?”

I said, “This is not my place to explain. Perhaps you might get something out of Momiji.”

I started to leave again, and she moved out of my way.
