Chapter 2

Um… hi, my name is Katherine, but just call me Kath, ok. My best friends are Kelly, our ‘leader,’ and Liz, our ‘follower.’ I’m sort of the ‘peace-maker.’ It’s not that easy, actually.

We just witnessed two deaths, Yuki Sohma and Shigure Sohma. Apparently, someone named Momiji Sohma had also died recently. I made Kelly and Liz go to the funeral because we were there when it happened.

So, we were with Tohru Honda, who does live with ‘Prince Yuki,’ and Kyo Sohma on the way to the funeral. Kelly was grumbling the entire time. Liz was skipping happily. Her laidback attitude scares me sometimes. She would laugh if she saw a bully trip… then I’d have to save her.

We went to this HUGE house. It was really, really big. One boy, I think he’s a freshman at our school, like me. What was his name? Hatsaharu! So, Haru said, “Kyo, Tohru, who are they?”

Liz said, “Hi, mister Haru, sir! Remember me? I’m junior at the same school as you!”

Kelly whacked her on the back of her head, “How can you be older than me and still be so… immature?”

Liz shrugged. I said, “We requested to come after the accidents…”

Liz laughed, “It was really funny!”

Haru shrugged, “No, harm, I guess…”

We all went to a room, where three funerals were held at once. There were pictures of the people who had passed on. I then remembered who Momiji was. He was in the same grade as me. Kelly was standing in the back of the room, trying not to let anyone notice her. Liz was blabbing to me about the socks that get lost in your washing machine or something like that. I wept a little to be kind to the dead spirits.

Kelly walked up to us, “Yo, I’m leavin’ now, alright.”

I watched her walk out of the room. As she left, she made some jerky movement. I think that Kelly nearly collapsed, but she kept leaving. Liz waved, “BYEBYE, KELLY!”

I quickly shushed her, “Shhhhhh!”

Liz was still talking loudly, so I told her, “I think Kelly wants you to leave with her.”

Liz left, with a jerky movement like the one Kelly had. I sighed. A few minutes later, I left.

The door handle felt cold to the touch, colder than it should. I felt like an electric shock ran through my body. I became very rigid, and then I slumped down. The room was spinning. I felt like passing out, but some unseen force kept me moving. The second I got outside, though, I fell to a heap on the ground, unconscious.

I don’t know how much later it was, but I was suddenly awake. A man walked up to me, “Are you alright?”

I was on a bed in some strange room, a doctor’s office. On identical bets were Kelly and Liz. I bolted upright, “Kelly! Liz! Are they alright?”

The man, who was apparently a doctor, said, “Your friends are just fine.”

I was still feeling nauseous, so I laid back down, “Where am I?”

The doctor said, “The Sohma main house. This is my doctor’s office. I usually only treat Sohmas, which you three are not.”

“I don’t feel good,” I complained, which was unlike my normal behavior.

“I wouldn’t think you would. After the funerals, you and your friends were found unconscious on the ground.”

I blurted out, “The door handle is possessed!”

Another person, who I hadn’t noticed said, “I think you hit your head. Doors aren’t possessed, idiot.”

I looked over. It was orange-top, a boy a little older than me from school, “Kyo?”

The doctor said, “Kyo was nice enough to help me carry you and your friends here.”

“Thanks,” I said.

He muttered something under my breath, but I couldn’t tell what. Then, I asked, “Who are you, anyway?”

The doctor replied, “My name is Hatori Sohma.”

I said, “I’m Katherine. Just call me Kath. My friends are Liz and Kelly.”

Liz had apparently woken since I had, “Hatori, eh? That’s a funny name! I like you, Mister Hatori!”

I groaned, “Elizabeth! Be nice!”

Liz leapt out of the bed, “That was a good nap!”

Hatori asked, “So you don’t feel woozy or anything?”

Kelly was apparently awake too, “I doubt she isn’t any more off balanced than usual.”

Kelly and I were still feeling bad when Liz was in perfect health. There is definitely something wrong with her. Hatori asked Liz again, “So you feel fine? Nothing is wrong with your health?”

“Nope! This is a fun game. Now, let me ask you a question. Um… do you like carrots?”

Hatori was in shock from Liz’s happy-go-lucky nature. There was a silence with everyone staring Liz. Kelly broke the silence by saying, “I like carrots. Now, stop bugging Hatori!”

“Okie dokie!”

I groaned, “I don’t feel good…”

I started to pass out and fall on the ground. The last thing I remembered was Hatori and Kyo diving to catch me.

When I woke up, Kelly and Liz were both asleep. Hatori and Kyo were talking quietly. I pretended to still be asleep so I could listen in on their conversation. There was another person in there with them, Hatsaharu, “Are you sure you hugged her?”

Kyo was replying, “Yes, she fell and we both caught her.”

They were talking about me. Hatori was then saying, “What do you think this means?”

“No clue,” Kyo said.

I sat up and yawned, “What happened?”

Hatori said, “You fell.”

“Who are you?”

“Haru,” Hatsaharu replied.

Kelly woke up, “Can we go now?”

Hatori replied, “If you feel better.”

Kelly quickly left, “Later.”

Then, it was just the sleeping Liz and myself. Haru said, “She’s almost as grumpy as you, Kyo.”

Kyo was about to attack Haru when Hatori held him back and whispered, “We don’t need Black Haru right now, so don’t anger him!”

Kyo forced himself to calm down. Suddenly, another man came in dragging Kelly behind him, “Who is this?”

Hatori said, “Hello, Ayame! That would be Kelly.”

Kelly was squirming in his grasp, “Lemme go!!!”

Ayame said, “She was walking down the hall, not looking where she was going. SHE BUMPED INTO ME!!! Why am I still like this?”

“We’re trying to figure that out,” Haru said.

Kyo added, “Same thing happened to her.”

Suddenly, all eyes landed on me. I tried to shrink into oblivion. I don’t like being the center of attention. I asked, “Um… what’d I do wrong?”

Kyo asked, lifting up my shirt, “Are you a girl?”

I slapped his hand away and pulled down my shirt, “OF COUSE I AM, YOU PERVERT!!!”

They turned to Kelly, who said, “I’m definitely NOT a man!”
