Crystal Journey

Chapter 1
A male Lilty was falling behind his companions, a Yuke and Clavat. The Liltie said he wasn’t keeping up, but what he was really mourning the loss of their companion, a Selkie named Links. Being a Liltie, he didn’t want the other two to see him cry. He wiped tears from his eyes and continued on toward Tipa.
Meanwhile, the citizens of Tipa were doing all they could to prepare for another year. Their Crystal Caravan had been gone for a long time now, and hadn’t returned. The citizens waited each day without any sign of the caravan.
After nearly eleven months of being gone, the caravaners returned. Tanokai, the male Liltie who carried the Crystal Chalice, entered the town first. Tanokai preferred to be called Tano and was the son of Tipa’s shopkeeper. He was followed quickly by Mayumi, a female Yuke. Mayumi is a master at all thinks magical and is the only child of the rancher. Last, but not least, was Chipou, a Clavat whose town had recently been destroyed while he was in its caravan. In hopes of avenging his family, Chipou moved to Tipa and joined its caravan.
A female Selkie watched them enter the town, and asked, “Hey, wasn’t there a Selkie with you?”
Mayumi said, “He has… perished.”
Chipou added, “I swear to avenge him.”
The party for the Crystal Chalice being full was also a funeral for the dead Selkie.
The female Selkie asked her father, the blacksmith, a question that night, “Father, may I join the Crystal Caravan?”
Reluctantly, her father said, “If that is what you wish, Fae.”
Fae went over to Tanokai, leader of the caravan, “Tanokai, guess what my father said. He has allowed me to join the caravan.”
Tano smiled, “That’s good, but can you fight? There are monsters out in the Miasma that are just waiting to kill you.”
Mayumi interrupted, “Tano, you are scaring the poor dear. Going on the caravan in hard and your tales of monsters do NOT help.”
Fae looked up at the Yuke, “Are their really… monsters?”
“Yes,” admitted Mayumi, “But they only bother you if you try to get Myrrh.”
Chipou said, “And that’s supposed to be reassuring?”
Fae said, “Don’t worry, I’ll destroy all the monsters in my path. You’ll see. I’m going to be the best caravaner EVER!!!”
Tano muttered, “A little too overconfident.”
Mayumi said, “If she’s going to be going with us, you should at least try to be nice.”
Tano said, “Sure thing, May, I’ll try.”
A few days later, the four caravaners left. Tano was in the lead. He had stopped carrying the Chalice. Now, it was Fae’s turn. He thought to himself, “I’m not carrying that ever again.”
To Tano’s dissatisfaction, Fae grew tired quickly, leaving the job up to the Lilty.
Diary!!!
Guess what, I’m going to be a caravaner!!! I can’t believe it. I’m sorry that Links died, though. He was a good neighbor. He was the only one who would listen to me besides Mother and Father. No one else cared about my childish behavior. It’s not childish, though. I’m going to be sixteen soon. Next time I see my family, I will be so grown up that they won’t even recognize me!
My fellow caravaners are Tanokai, the Lilty, Mayumi, the Yuke, and Chipou, the Clavat. I don’t really know much about them. Chipou is from another town that was destroyed by the Miasma. Tanokai is a natural-born leader. He takes orders from nobody. Mayumi is really nice. She makes me feel good when the others are picking on me. She’s like a mother. Only my mom is much nicer.
We will enter a dungeon looking for Myrrh soon. Tano is letting me use Links’s sword until I can find one of my own.
~Fae
End Diary!!!
Fae awoke that day to the smell of eggs. When she opened her eyes, she found Mayumi cooking. Tano and Chipou were sound asleep, snoring like old men. Mayumi noticed that I was awake, and said, “Good morning, Fae.”
Fae yawned, then said, “Good morning, Mayumi.”
They chatted for a while. Fae asked, “Why is Tano mean?”
Mayumi said, “He’s not mean, he just doesn’t know how to show his feelings. He still misses Links and is trying to make you be as good as he was at everything.”
“But I’m not Links,” Fae said.
Mayumi, finishing the eggs, said, “Tano knows that, but he hopes that you can fill the space in his heart that left with Links. They were like brothers, did you know?”
“No,” Fae said, “Were that that close?”
Mayumi frowned, “I wouldn’t know. I’m an only child.”
Fae grinned, “You’re lucky. My brother is SO annoying. Sometimes, I just can’t stand him.”
Mayumi said, “But he’s always there for you and you are always there for him. That is a very special kind of friendship.”
Fae nodded, “I guess you’re right.”
Mayumi said, “My friends call me May, you can two.”
Fae smiled at her, “Thanks!”
