Kenshin, the former Hitokiri Battousai, is the main character in Rurouni Kenshin. He is kind-hearted, selfless, and not to mention, an extremely talented swordsman. Living together with Kaoru and eventually with Yahiko, Kenshin is the one who does all the work around the house. As the story goes on, Kenshin and Kaoru fall in love and become unspoken boyfriend and girlfriend.

Kaoru is the assistant master of the Kamiya Dojo, a kenjutsu school that her father started. She took Kenshin in to live with her at her dojo. Even though Kaoru may be hot-headed at times, she can be a real sweetheart and care for others, especially Kenshin.

This ten-year-old decendant of a samurai is Kaoru's only student. Yahiko was a pickpocket working for a common yakuza (gang) before Kaoru and Kenshin took him from the gang. Being the son of a samurai, Yahiko has a lot of pride. Although he argues with Sanosuke most of the time, the two are best friends.
