What is Yaoi?
The following terminology should help explain what yaoi and some other yaoi related terms mean.
*Yaoi: The term yaoi is usually is used to mean sexual relationships between two males. Anime that can be considered yaoi usually has scenes of sex but that can be on the soft or hardcore level.
*Shonen-Ai: With shonen meaning "boy" and ai meaning "love", shonen-ai literally means boy's love. Unlike, it's hardcore counterpart, shounen-ai usually is refered to the soft side of boy's love.
• Seme: The term used for the "top" in the m/m relationship. The canon seme is always taller than his partner, stronger, and generally more masculine.
• Uke: The seme's counterpart-- his "bottom" partner. The classic uke has a slender, less masculine build, and is often portrayed as more emotionally sensitive than his seme.
