Glossary
The internet world is plagued with terms and phrases that will cause the average surfer to blink in confusion... up until they learn the lingo. Here I have compiled a short glossary of Japanese words and phrases used within this site and/or relating to anime and fan fiction/art that I'm sure will come in handy.
| WORD | MEANING |
| Ai | Love. It also means... actually, that is all it means |
| Baka | Fool, blockhead, idiot, folly, nonsense, absurdity |
| Baka yaroo | You fool! Idiot! |
| Dekiagaru | To be finished, be completed. Used at the end of my fictions |
| Hentai | Does the word 'porn' have any meaning? This word is where extreme sexual situations are contained within |
| -Jin | Suffix denoting: people |
| Ketsuron | Conclusion. The name of one of my fictions |
| Koi | Love. Often used to refer to someone |
| Koibito | Lover. This one pops up everywhere |
| Neko | Cat, kitten |
| Neko-Jin | Part feline, part human. For more, please see the 'Meet the White Tigers' page |
| Owari | End, termination, conclusion. Many writers place this at the end of their fics |
| Shojo ai | Girl love, or more correctly, 'girl's love'. Like shonen ai, only it represents female/female relationships |
| Shonen ai | Boy love, or more correctly, 'boy's love'. Generally used to represent a male/male relationship |
| Yaoi | Yama nashi, ocji nashi, imi nashi, which means in English "Without climax, without resolution, without meaning," or "no highs, no lows, no point". It refers to male/male relationships, and is stronger than shonen ai |
| Yuri | Where this word came from I do not know, but it refers to female/female relationships that are stronger than shojo ai |
I will be adding more as time goes on, but if you can think of any that should be added, please email me at princess_angel_untied@hotmail.com and type "Lesson in Language" into the subject line.
