Cockatoos are perhaps the most interesting & comical birds. Their outstanding intelligence and emotional makeup have made them my favorite birds of all the many species of parrots. However Cockatoos are not the best pets for most people. These birds require a great deal of attention, need a great deal of room and make a great deal of noise. When handled properly, a Cockatoo can become an affectionate pet, but if handled improperly it can become angry, frustrated, confused and act out inharmful ways towards you, family, friends and against itself.

But if you are insistent, DO NOT purchase this creature if you have not had any prior experience with birds. These are very social creatures and if their needs are not meant. They can lash out in multiple way including self-mutilation. Which is the most painful thing to see. Your cute and fluffy friend can turn into nothing but a pile of skin. Sometimes as to even go so far as carve a hole in their chess.
Birds in general have a very sensitive respiratory system. They
can easily become ill. Some house hold products and chemicals can kill your
birds, such as teflon. Do NOT cook with teflon pots or anything like it. Some
household plants are also deadly.Your bird should not eat chocolate, coffee,
fried food, avocado as all these things can be really deadly. DO NOT give your
bird what you would not feed yoru child.
All Cockatoos belong to the family cactuidae and in habit Australia and some of the islands of the South Pacific. Some species of Cockatoos range as far north as the phillipines. The members of the family cacatuidae vary tremendously in size andappearance, from the small familiar cockatiel to the large, rare palm Cockatoo. Most people think of Cockatoos as white birds with yellow crests, but there are also black Cockatoos. These black Cockatoos are rare and expensive, and most are also kept in Wildlife Parks, Zoos, or other public attractions.
Cockatoos, my Umbrella Cockatoos, are very emotional creatures. Their intelligence is that of a 5 year old human child. Their emotional stability is that of a 2 year old human child. So you can justimagine! You’ll be dealing with a creature just the same as you are, that should be treated with the same respect as you’d treat another person. They understand everything. They understand and respond to negativity and positively. They know when they’ve been good and when they’ve been bad by the response you give them. Although, sometimes depending their age, they act on hormones which cannot be help. So you have to learn to deal with it. In conclusion these are very intelligent creatures.
All Cockatoos have strong bills that are made of keratin and colored either beige or black, depending on the species. The feet of most Cockatoos are black. All have a conspicuous periophthalmic ring around their eye which may be blue or purple. The white Cockatoos show little sexual dimorphism, except for the eyes color. In mature males the iris is blacka or dark brown. In females the iris may be red or red-brown.
All Cockatoos have a bald spot on the cranium, covered by the crest feathers, and all have a powder down beneath the outer layer of plumage. The powder provides insulation to keep the body temperature constant, but more remarkably this down sheds a thick powder which is used for waterproofing and cleaning the feathers.
