Atlanta
(Twenty hours after chapter 2)

Damnit Marcus, you had to get killed... Doesn't help that the guys who shot you just took out the CDC... Danny Draven thought as she leaned against the Marriott off Peachtree. She had seen the destruction already. People around her were dying, and there was nothing she could do. Her bike was a few feet away. Danny had stopped to try to collect herself, to keep from breaking down. Ten hours ago the CDC building had exploded. She had seen the damage, just having had gotten from the underground mall as it happened. The winds had carried disease to the center of town.

"Help me..." Someone touched her shoulder. She stepped back in disgust seeing the poor woman was falling apart as she watched. Danny looked at her after she collapsed, a pile of flesh. Her stomach couldn't take it anymore.

"I'm sorry... I can't do anything..." She said biting her lip. If I could I would.. She thought pulling from the people trying to make it off the street. The station.. They should know what's going on, if they're not already dead.. She thought making it back to her bike. The streets were jammed.

Three hours later Danny made it to her precinct and got in the door. "Chief?" The station was quiet. "Omar? Kevin?" She drew her gun holding it in both hands as she walked through the silence. Where the hell is everyone?

A TV sitting in the break room caught her attention.

"...General note to anyone in the Georgia area... Our condolences... For those of you who haven't heard. Earlier today there was an explosion at the CDC in Atlanta, Georgia. As far as we could tell the whole state of Georgia is being affected by disease. All medical institutions are swamped. The infection has gone as far north as the South Carolina border... With the on coming of Hurricane Brittany, expect it to spread. If you do not have to go anywhere stay locked in your houses with loved ones. If you're trained even in the basics of first aide and live in the area... The Government is asking that you make the diseased as comfortable as possible...." Danny felt the bile starting to rise again. "Doctors are being organized as quickly as possible to try to deal with the situation..." Danny turned off the TV. She sank into a chair, her head resting on the table.

Danny leaned against the wall. How is it that I'm not.... "Marcus... you tried to... I'll do what you want." It's still too hot... Water... That might help... She fell to her knees just feet from the water cooler.

"Detective Draven?" A voice made her jump.

"Who are you?" She asked holding up her gun. The man behind her was wearing a sterile suit. Four others surrounded them. She watched as her hand shook. No... I'm fine... I'm okay... Don't do this.... She thought as the gun started to lower. The man in the sterile suit took the gun from her. She tried to rise to her feet, but her body wouldn't respond.

"Get her into Decon now. They'll want her in Raccoon soon." The man said stepping away from her. Two pairs of hands lifted her from the floor and onto a gurney. Danny watched, starting to fade as they bound her wrists and legs down. She felt one of the men pulling her mouth open and felt something stuffed in.

"Sir, her heart beat's racing... She might not make it."

"She'll make it." Someone else said quickly. "Tell them we're coming in hot though. There's no time to get her through Decon if they want the virus."

"Right."

Danny groaned starting to wake. She felt her wrists were pinned down. What the fuck? Something moved in the corner of her eye and she looked over. The figure shifted towards her. The smell of death filled the air. Oh shit.. I'm in a hospital in Atlanta... The figure got within a few feet of her and stopped, looking at her as if it was hurting. She struggled more, trying to get her wrists free. The bastards left me here to die..

Danny got one wrist free. The creature lunged at her and she grabbed a tray near her, smashing it into the creature. She heard a snap and watched it fall to the floor. That was easy... She thought as she freed her other wrist and her ankles. She checked the tools that were on the tray. A few medical knives... Not a whole lot.. but it's a weapon until I find something else at least. She thought taking them up and going to the closet to see if her clothes were there.

Great... Stuck in this until I can find something better.. Danny heard something moving behind her and looked over. "What the fuck?" She ducked the creature she had 'killed' and scrambled for the door to the room. It lurched for her. Danny looked around for something to use as a weapon better than the knife.

Danny's hand fell on a mop handle. She looked at it, then the monster. Better than nothing. Gods please let this be like in the movies... She thought as she cracked the handle in half and pounced at the creature stabbing down at it's chest.

The creature snapped at her. Danny jumped back kicking out. Her barefoot struck flesh and she watched as the head went flying.

"Gross..." She stepped back more and leaned against the wall breathing hard. "What the hell is going on around here..." She wondered closing her eyes a moment. Right, figure it out later... I need real clothes first.. She thought getting to her feet.

An hour later Danny had found out that she wasn't in Atlanta and that most of the hospital was dead. She had changed from the gown she had been wearing to scrubs. It's a little better.. I'm not as exposed. She thought sitting in the empty cafeteria. And I'm pretty much locked in here.. Maybe I can get a cop or someone to come for me. There's got to be a radio here somewhere.. She thought finishing off the water she had boiled in the kitchen. She had eased her stomach with a few hard candies from the gift shop.

Her mop had been replaced with a night stick she had found in one of the security offices. She hadn't been able to find a gun though.

Shots were fired from somewhere else in the building. She looked up. Where... She thought then bit her lip. What if it's the jerks that brought me here... Danny turned off the lights in the kitchen heading out the back door to get around the less littered halls. She yelped as a zombie dressed as a cook grabbed her.

"Damnit get the fuck off me!" She hissed elbowing it. When it let her go she turned swinging out with the nightstick. When the body fell she backed up falling to the floor sitting there a few moments. The gunshots were getting closer. She leaned back against the wall. She started to feel warm again. No.. I'm okay... Marcus... What did you do to me... She thought getting to her feet again. Danny stumbled towards the gunshots.

The heat was starting to get to be too much. She leaned against the wall again trying to calm down. I'll be okay... I just need more rest. Once I'm out of here I'll get more. She thought as she pulled herself against the wall for a moment.
