Moments after Alanyia and Carlos split up in chapter twelve

Carlos followed, flicking the safety off, but keeping his finger off the trigger. "....I really shouldn't be saying this, 'cause it's only gonna make things worse...this hospital? Recently, it's had some shipments from Umbrella..." He quickly made his way to the double doors, then pushed them open, taking a quick look around. He waved them up, then went in farther.

Alanyia limped in, her back against teh wall. She waited a moment for her eyes to adjust.

Leon pulled against the other wall.

Carlos was on the floor, kneeling. He sniffed the air, and went, "Hoo! Man, something smells in here!" He waved his hand in the air. "Like...rotting meat left out too long...disgusting..."

Alanyia nodded. It was clear on her face that she didn't like this.

Leon opened a door and found nothing there. "You'd think this would have been in a ghost town.. Not in the middle of a city.."

Carlos made his way forward, and went very pale. "Oh...crap...." he said blandly. He stumbled back, and fell flat on his ass. "Guys...we're in SERIOUS trouble here..."

Alanyia looked over. "Carlos?"

Leon looked over and paled as well. "What the fuck..."

He pointed with a shakey finger to a body in a UBCS uniform...the head of which was lying not too far away. From the looks of it, it had been there for a few days. "That's....why they closed the hospital...there's something in here..." Then they heard it. A sound like clicking fingers...

Leon and Alanyia both looked around. Alanyia drew the gun Carlos had given her.

"Here, let me help you up."

Slowly, something hunched over made its way into the light. The dull flicker of the broken emergency lighting revealing glimpses of slimy scales, long, knife-like claws, and a muscular form. Carlos backed up, then stood. "Oh shit...it's coming this way..."

Alanyia stood her ground. "Freeze!" She growled. When it didn't she fired a round into it's leg. "I said freeze fucker."

It hissed, and stepped fully into the light, blood dripping from its claws. It looked like a lizard, only bipedal, and with no tail. It snarled, revealing a mouth full of sharp teeth. It suddenly stormed forward, blurring, then leapt as high as it could in the lobby, before comnig down, claws slicing the air...

"It's...." Alanyia yelped backing up. She fired at it as it passed overhead. "God damnit! DIE!"

Leon pulled her back aiming at the monster as well, but he didn't fire. "Head shot... We'll drop it first..."

Carlos fired at it, the bullets impacting, and trails of blood streaming behind it. One lucky shot hit it in the eye, and it stumbled, its landing angle changed as it twisted in mid-air, and smacked into a nearby couch. It started slashing, tearing through wood, springs, and stuff like a deranged cat on steroids, screaming as it slowly moved forward, raising its claw as it did before. It tensed, then pushed itself forward, blurring once more, this time in a straight line.

Alanyia fired into the other eye. four shots went in and she watched as one went out.

Danny entered the lobby and gasped seeing the creature. "Oh god..." She said standing right behind Carlos.

Hissing, it slowed, and crashed into her, very dead. It twitched, and a rattling death howl came from its throat as it fell still on top of her.

Danny gasped trying to get the beast off her. Leon shoved it off. "You okay?"

She scrambled back and stayed seated on the floor.

Carlos couldn't help but laugh. "It fell on her..." he snickered. Then he walked over at rolled it on its back with his combat boots. "Ugly son of bitch, isn't it?"

"Hey, You okay doc?" Alanyia asked.

Carlos then amused himself by poking it. "It's still twitching..." he noted grimly as it shuddered a few times with each poke. "This thing...ain't natural...I mean, look at it!"

"Huh... I'm not a doctor..." Danny stood.."Detective Danny Draven... Atlanta PD..." She said hoping the shirt she wore was still hiding the bandages on her wrists from the bindings she had woken in. "Where am I?" She asked

"Raccoon city..." Leon answered. "Carlos, watch it will you, it might not be dead." He watched.

"Atlanta? Hoo...man, are you far from home...welcome to Freak Central..." Carlos said, still poking at it. The he heard it. That clicking noise again... "OH SHIT! THERE'S MORE!!"

Alanyia leaned against the wall to keep her leg from crumbling.

A series of loud hisses filled the air, and another two of the green things slowly moved into the light, followed by a brownish-red one that looked slightly burnt. Each had the same stance, raising the claws before blurring forward in a rush of speed.

Danny thought a moment. "This way.. The room I was in is clear... I may not be a doctor, but I've worked as a paramedic a bit... Looks like you could use one."

Leon fired at them hoping to keep them off. "Which way lady.."

The things hissed, then the one in back leapt higher, its claws tearing into the roof as they arced downwards, slicing Carlos across the arm. He let out a cry of pain as he fell back.

"Carlos!" Alanyia scowled. "No way is some bastard going to take out my pool partner." She fired a few more rounds, dropping it. Three shots left in this clip.

The other two made their way forward, their breath a series of rasps and squeaks. One lunged forwards for Al, but Carlos tripped it, and it hit a fire extinguisher to her left. It shrieked in pain as the blinding white goo hit it in the eyes.

Danny grabbed Carlos pulling him back, and taking his gun from him. She shot two rounds dropping one other one. "Come on... Two doors down..."

The final monster screamed out loud, its face in as close an expression to rage as it clawed its own face, blinding it. It blurred forward, but fell over the dead body, sliding across the floor and smashing its head into the marble pillars of the lobby.

Leon kicked open the door the girl had said and got Alanyia in. "You okay?" He asked as she sank to the floor.

"Yeah I'll live. Fucking hurts though." She leaned her head against the wall.

Carlos looked down at his arm and winced. "Okay...this is some screwed up shit we have going on here..." He frowned at the blood that was dripping onto the floor. "Man, those things were goddamn MONSTERS! Shit...I just KNOW that freak Irons has something to do with this!"

Danny sat him on the bed that still had the leather straps that had held her down. "Those weren't like the one that I woke up seeing. Some sick doctor locked me in here with what looked like a zombie. Hey, Prettyboy, get me some bandages from that cabnet. I'll patch them up."

Leon looked at her then nodded getting what she needed. He noticed a file on the counter and picked it up. "What's this?" He asked flipping through it. Umbrella's symbol was on the front of the folder.

Carlos made a face at her. "Hey, show some respect, eh? You're the one out of your element here...I've been putting up with this weird Dean Koontz shit for the past two months..." He stood up, and walked over to Leon. He took the folder, and flipped through it. He pulled out a picture, and showed it to everyone. "Look familiar?"

Leon nodded. Alanyia snatched it. "Okay... Where's this fit her though?" She looked at the stranger.

Carlos read the heading. "Hunter Series 121...produced....oh, fuck...Al, you're not gonna believe this..." He looked at her with a striken face.

"You're kidding me... There's more of those bastards?"

Leon checked the ammo in his gun. "Only a few rounds left."

"Not only that...they're MADE by Umbrella....at the Spencer place....as a biological weapon, after being infected with some kinda virus...." He handed her the folder. "Looks like Irons had a good reason for shutting this place down...the 'Hunters' must've gotten loose on them, and started killing everyone AFTER she got here," he jerked a thumn at Danny.

Danny groaned feeling warm again. She caught herself on the bed staying standing. Sweat beaded on her brow.

"Sue went there. Shit.. We have to go... What if they kill her? She might know how to reverse it... or how to kill them better." Leon looked at them. "Hey you okay?"

Once more, the clicking sound could be heard, this time distant and far off. "Anyone else think we should probably hurry the Hell up? 'Cause unless someone has some heavy artilery stashed here, we are FUCKED..."

"There's no weapons... I checked when I got free..." Danny said finishing up with his arm. "We need to get to the blood labs... My brother gave me something before they grabbed me and brought me here... He said it would save people... Maybe they already drew blood..." She said after a moment.

Carlos looked over his shoulder. Through a glass door, he could see.. "Oh fuck....take a look at that..." Through the door, a Hunter could be seen tearing a person apart...only there weren't any screams. And the person looked like they'd been dead for weeks.... "Are you insane?! We don't have the guns or ammo to go up against more of those things!"

Danny covered her mouth fighting the urge to get sick. She turned to the garbage can dry heaving.

Leon went locking the door hoping it would stall the creatures a bit so they could figure out what to do.

The thing threw its head back and howled loudly, a chittering sound like a grasshopper rubbing its legs together. "I think we should run...get some bigger guns, then come back..."

Alanyia scoffed. "Think... Iron's finds me he'll kill me... As for her... We don't know if the girl's even safe.. I mean that thing's biological... What if she's a weapon."

Carlos looked over at Al. "So, you'd prefer it if we were torn to shreds? We can always requisition something from a gunstore...Hell, a Colt Python would be better than this..." He held up the SIGPRO, disgusted. Then, he grinned. "Hell, I forgot the ace-in-the-hole!" He pulled out six more clips, each with a white band around it.

Danny recovered and stayed seated on the floor. "He's right... We need to get out of here..." She jumped as something hit the other side of the door. "We're not far up... How far is the car you came in?"

Carlos ejected the clip in his gun, and slid in one of the new ones. "Leon, see if this'll fit in yours...it won't in the Eagle, but it will for the SIGPRO, and the Berretas..." He handed him one of the five remaining clips.

Leon caught it and nodded sliding it into his gun. "Let me guess armor peircing?"

"Something like that...I was messing around down in the weapons cache, when I accidentally busted open a locker....Man, that thing was loaded down with guns...and all kinds of ammo...I took some of these, because they'd been in a box marked for emergencies....and there was one other selling point..." With a slight grin, he flipped over one of the clips, revealing a small STARS emblem. "I gave it a try with a seventh clip. The things have more kick to them, plus can do almost three times the damage as normal rounds...whoever made the things knew what they were doing..."

Alanyia pulled herself up to her feet again. "You'd think they would have kept you on a higher floor than the first."

Danny looked at Carlos. "Then they might have expected this..." She shivered slightly.

"Hey, you okay?" Alanyia asked.

Carlos chambered in one of the new rounds. "I say we might as well head to the labs... Leon, hand over the regular clips to whoever has the Eagle, and take these..." He handed over two of the four clips.

"I don't know... I'll be okay though... This has been going on since I woke.."

Leon handed Alanyia the rest of the normal clips. "What do you mean since you woke?"

Carlos gave Al the last of his, and frowned. "Something's fishy....and it has the stink of Umbrella all over it....you remember that shipment I mentioned?"

Both Leon and Alanyia nodded.

Danny got up weakly not saying anything.

"It was a big one...cannisters, and a large crate...about a week ago...." Carlos rubbed his chin. "You can guess what was in the cannisters...and I know what must have been in the crate...." He pointed at Danny. "Makes sense....otherwise, she'd be dead already when those things got loose....maybe a power failure caused the damn things to unseal, and those monsters woke up....My guess is they brought her here, because something happened at the mansion..."

Danny shook her head. "I... I'm not like them... I know I'm not..." She paled more stepping back into the counter. Visions hit her mins and she shookk her head. "I... I woke on the transport... I remembered hearing skittering... They had to open the crate... I couldn't move..." She wrapped her arms around herself.

Carlos rubbed his chin again. "Who has that file? Maybe there's some kinda hint in it..." He began rooting through shelves and the like, tossing still-sterile bandage wrap and sealed bottles back to Leon.

Alanyia went to her. "Detective, calm down." She said seeing the girl was bout to lose it. "Carlos, we should get her out of here. She doesn't look too good." Alanyia turned back to her. "When was the last time you ate something?"

Leon found the file. "What are you looking for now?"

"If you guys are right about the shipment.. other than a few candies... about a week ago... I think they had me hooked up to an IV before what ever happened here happened..."

"Well, other than bandages, and some antibiotics, I wanted to see what the Hell else Umbrella has up in that mansion..." He glanced over at the women. "...Think about it...we ran into five of them because they had ben SHIPPED from the mansion..there could be a hundred of them up there..."

Leon almost dropped the items in his arms. "And Irons knew..."

Carlos nodded, and began pulling out more pictures. Then he stared blankly. "Fuck...he wasn't the only one..." He showed them a photo of all the researchers. "Look at the guy in the back, to the left.."

Leon had no idea who he was talking about.

Alanyia scowled. "Wesker..."

"The captain of the STARS team...he's one of the damned assholes responsible for this mess....no wonder he was so cool all the time, and why Irons was always talking to him....The two of them were in this together...so Vickers might just as well be in it too, not to mention anyone working for Umbrella..." He pulled out more photos. "Nice assortment of freaks, huh?" he commented, slapping down pictures of rotting zombie dogs, the Hunters, the shark-like Neptunes, the Plant 42, and the Tyrant.

Danny was completely pale at this time. She bit her lip. "Please... can we go... I would like to get away from those things... I'll help take them down... but... I need something other than these scrubs on..."

Alanyia agrred tucking the pictures into her vest. "We'll go out the window. I'll be able to get back to the jeep."

"That ain't the worst part...they're makin' these things up at the same place the STARS are....there's probably nothing left of them by now..." Carlos clenched his fists.

Leon nodded. "Hopefully they're as tough as everyone says they are."

"Leon, get the file...I'll get that stuff..." the hispanic started shoving the medical stuff in his pockets, and made sure nothing was torn open. "As soon as we get out of here, you and me are going out to find that moron Vickers..."

"Fine with me. We better leave them somewhere though."

Danny got the window open and climbed out to help get Alanyia out.

"Heere, you're in better condition to shoot." Alanyia handed her the gun. She nodded taking it.

"Suggestions?" he asked just as the window behind him cracked. Looking over his shoulder, he saw that the Hunter had finally noticed them. "Seriously, let's book, come back when we get the STARS or something..."

Alanyia climbed out leaning against Danny. "You okay?"

Danny nodded.

"Carlos go." Leon said holding his gun out.

Carlos slipped his clips back in his vest, and nodded, climbing out of the window. "Hey, I got an idea...there's a hotel not too far from here...we can leave them there for a while, then head back to the station...anyone like that idea?"

Both girls nodded. Leon slipped out the window as the other shattered. "Fine with me, just go."

Carlos reached back, and lowered it as far as he could before a claw jammed in under it. He fell back, and winced as he heard the Hunter's cry of pain. "Uh...going is good.." he nodded, as he took off. "Come on...it's gonna get out any freakin' minute!"

Alanyia and Danny made it to the jeep first. Leon pulled the keys out of his pocket tossing them to Carlos. "You know where the hell we're going." He said pulling into the passenger seat and covering them.

Carlos took the keys, and started the Jeep. He put it in reverse, and hit the pedal so hard they smacked a garbage can. The sound of breaking glass could be heard. Carlos, shaking his head, switching to drive and gunned it. He swerved out of the lot just as the Hunter burst from the window and started chasing them. "Looks like we've got company.. He groaned as it started gaining, jumping off of the cars that were parked and the occassional one that was passing by. "Someone shoot that damn thing before it gets out tires!"

Danny fired a shot getting one eye.

Leon fired taking off it's head. "You get the next one okay?" He grinned at her. She nodded

Carlos slowed down a bit, and shook his head. "This is not going good...the way things are going, someone unfriendly is going to find out.." he remarked as he pulled into the hotel's parking lot. He looked back at the women. "Can you two take care of yourselves? We don't need Irons or anyone else involved suspicious..so we can't take you with us...and hopefully that was the last of them."

"We'll be okay." Alanyia nodded. "We'll just have a pizza party."

"That's disgusting..." Danny commented. "We'll be okay. Not as many rounds as I'd like, but heh... Can't help that."

Carlos grinned, and began pulling out the meds and bandages, sticking them in a bag in the front seat. "Here...take care of Al, okay? Otherwise I'm not going to be very happy.."

"I will. Don't worry. If I could take care of my brother after his car accident.. this is nothing." She said taking the bag and letting Alanyia lean on her.

Leon tossed Danny his jacket. "It's a little better than the scrubs." He said calmly. "We'll come back for you soon okay?"

"Okay, then...shit, how much money do you have, Al?" Carlos pulled out his wallet, and tossed it to her. "Leon, give them some cash, eh? We won't be needing it."

Alanyia took the cash and nodded. "Better hurry, I know you hate warm beer." She grinned. "Come on Danny-girl. Let's get a room. Have a little fun."

"If I knew you were serious, I would have remembered a camera." She said heading into the motel.

Carlos rolled his eyes, and shifted into reverse. "Al, one of these days..." he wagged a finger at her, grinning like an idiot, and pulled out, hitting the streets again. He looked over at Leon. "Hey, did she leave the pics?" he asked. "'Cause we're gonna need them."

Leon picked them up. "Yeah, she left them." He said sitting down. "She always like that in a crisis?"

He grinned. "Usually, yea...she's a little of the crazy side..I mean, the reason she ended up with Irons after her was because she called him off to his face..." He shook his head, and took another turn. "There's the station up ahead...you can see the clock tower part of it from here.."

Leon nodded. "That must have been something to see."

"Yea...but I'll never forget that look on his face, or the sound of his voice. Did you know there are rumors that he was involved in some kinda rape charge?" Carlos turned the wheel again, and after a short while, the station's visitor parking was in view.

"Since he did that to her... not suprized." Leon said looking at the station.

Carlos pulled into the lot, and checked his gun. "Remember, play it easy, and don't forget that file. We can't risk it being seen...we'll go lock it in the STARS office...there's enough mess there to keep them searching for MONTHS.." He grinned, stopped the car, and handed Leon the keys.

Leon caught the keys and nodded. "Take the file then. I handed my jacket to the girls remember."

Nodding, he reached back, gathered it all up, and slipped it into his vest. "Time to face the music...with luck, Vickers is also in the office...so we won't have to worry about Irons getting in the way." He locked the door on his side as he closed it.
