General Sephiroth

Childhood

Sephiroth is the product of the Jenova Project. He was born into ShinRa's Science Division, and his progress as a child was well documented. He was an experiment, raised by Professor Hojo and his assistant scientists in ShinRa laboratories. Although Hojo is Sephiroth's father, he never told Sephiroth the truth about his birth. In fact, Sephiroth despises Hojo as being a mockery of the brilliance that Professor Gast was before him.

Sephiroth's training began at a very early age. He was far more advanced than normal children, and was extremely intelligent and quick to learn. He was trained in both the physical and magical aspects of fighting, and his knowledge of materia was impressive. Perhaps most startling was Sephiroth's obvious natural ability and eagerness to perfect his fighting skill.

Sephiroth was not, however, such a willing participant regarding Hojo's testing and research. Under normal circumstances, potential SOLDIERs are not exposed to Mako until they have reached the age of sixteen. Sephiroth's Mako infusion began when he was just seven months old. Ever since, he has endured weekly injections of Mako, and intense radiation showers.

SOLDIER

At the age of fourteen, Sephiroth officially joined the ShinRa army. He passed the entrance exam with a maximum score of 100%. Being the only person to ever have achieved such a result, he was put straight into SOLDIER Third Class, and rapidly made his way up the ranks. He was known as being cool and unemotional during his training, and held no interest in maintaining friendships. 

His training was continued in a strict military environment. He had the very best tutors the Junon Army Training Base had to offer, and was extremely dedicated to his work. He was placed at the top of his class, where he quickly developed into one of the finest SOLDIERs ever produced. He achieved the level of SOLDIER First Class by the unbelievable age of just sixteen.

Sephiroth refused to use any guns or automatic weaponry to fight with, insisting that it was dishonourable. Instead, he uses the Masamune, a name now practically synonymous with his own. Masamune is a seven foot kitana blade, unique in its design. It is unknown who forged the sword, or how Sephiroth came about acquiring it.

Master Kujotu once wrote a report on Sephiroth. His book states: "Sephiroth grew to be a powerful and much feared and respected warrior, a hero who all young boys desired to be, at some stage in their lives. He was ShinRa's pride and joy, a war hero in the battles against the distant nation of Wutai. He was idolized by, but never able to be close to the people around him. He also has developed a rather strange sense of humour - he laughs at the oddest things..."

Wutai War

Sephiroth's current fame and status is largely due to his success during the Wutai war. It's no secret that ShinRa were losing the war, which was already well into its fourth year by the time Sephiroth was dispatched. Although only a minor officer at the time, he led his men fearlessly in an assault against Wutai, and returned victorious. 

He was recorded as being a composed fighter, who never faltered or became intimidated by the enemy. He fought bravely alongside the dead and dying, and brought honour to the war. He was never known to be cruel or unjust to any of the captured prisoners of war, and he always fought fairly. He never lost any battles, nor was he ever known to be wounded. He was an incredible SOLDIER in battle, and never hesitated when giving out orders.

By the age of twenty two, Sephiroth had become the very highest ranking SOLDIER officer, and was placed in charge of the entire ShinRa army.

The Nibelheim Incident

Sephiroth's career, however, ended abruptly in tragedy.  

After the war, he was sent out on several missions of little importance to the military, one of which ended with the notorious 'Nibelheim Incident'.

Sephiroth was dispatched, along with a trio of SOLDIERs, to investigate the Mako Reactor at Mt. Nibel. There had been reports of brutal creatures in the area near Nibelheim, and Sephiroth suspected the Reactor was malfunctioning. He was reportedly led to the Reactor by a young guide from the town, and after returning, he locked himself in the basement library of ShinRa Mansion on the outskirts of town. The next day, the town was mysteriously burnt down. Nobody survived the incident. Although Sephiroth's body was never found, there is no way he could have escaped alive.

He has not been seen or heard from since.

"By merging with all the energy of the Planet, I will become a new life form, a new existence.
