Shuichi's Concert Costume

~Gravitation~

for Otakon 2003

This costume started out as: http://anniescostumes.com/devil.htm, "The Sensual Fire Devil"

Belt material and velcro was purchased from Walmart.

Belt buckles were purchased from Trimtex in Williamsport.

Entire costume was sewn together by hand using mostly transparent nylon thread.

Costume Modeled

The shade of red in this photo is much closer to the shade of red it is in real life. The belts around the waist are made for a man's size 32, so they hang a bit loose. The belts are not functional, the actually hook together using a snap and some velcro. This is not actually the person the outfit was made for.

~A Closer Look~

The jacket was originally a halter top. The pocket lines are simply silver fabric paint. The collar is one of the gloves from the devil costume, sewn shut with a piece of cardboard running through it for reinforcement. Black belt material was then weaved in and out of the collar through slits cut by a razor.

Here is the back of the vest. To get extra fabric to make the halter into a vest, the booties were cut off the bottom of the leggins. All the elastic that originally ran around the entire outside of the booties and the halter was cut out. The bottom section of material is one of the booties. The upper two sections are the other bootie. The two side pieces that create the shoulders to the vest were originally one of the gloves.

The belting around each leggin is one complete piece. There are two buckles on each side and the complete piece is tacked in the back to make it look continuous. The belting is only actually tacked directly to the fabric in two places on each one.

This picture shows the actual color, or almost the actual color. The excess belt material from everything else was used to create the longest belt, which hooks together with velcro. It's still missing its buckle. The top two belts are sewn together so that, when worn, it will always look like the black belt is directly on top of the white. After this was taken, the black dots were added to the shorts with fabric paint.
