Moonlight's Quick and Easy Fansub Removal

Quick and Easy Sub Removal Hello all weary AMVers. Are you ready of getting rid of those pesky fansubs in your videos? Fear not, VirtualDubMod really isn’t as tricky as it seems. (Even I can use it lol).
Basically what you want to do, is first, open the clip that you want to crop.
1. File – Open Video File

2. and then select your clip. View screenshot
3. Once it’s open, you’ll see a screen like this. (If you get a message about decoder lag, just scroll past it using the scroll bar along the bottom.)

4. Now, I’d like to be able to see both windows, so right-click on the window and select half-size. View screenshot
5. Do this for both windows. You’ll get something that looks like this: View screenshot
6. Now, select Video, and filter.

7. Click Add

8. Select temporal smoother and click ok. Now click ok again to get back to the filter menu.

9. You’ll be back to the filter menu. Select cropping from the left.

10. Scroll to a part with a subtitle. Now use the x and y offsets (by clicking the arrows upwards) to crop the screen and remove the subtitle.

11. You’ve got rid of the subtitle on the bottom! Yay! View screenshot
12. Now we need to resize the clip so it doesn’t go out of proportion! (Your number might be different, but essentially remember the resolution given when you get back to the filter menu screen.)

13. Now you’re going to add another filter. Click Add – resize.

14. Enter in your numbers from step 12. Select Bicubic. Click Ok.

15. Click Ok to get back to the window screen. You’ll notice your clips are in proportion to each other instead of being out of proportion
16. Using the trim buttons, the two rightmost buttons on the bottom bar, you can select which part of the episode you want as your clip. Push the second last one to indicate the start of your clip and the last one to indicate the end of the clip. You’ll see the section highlighted in blue like on this screen.
17. Now you’re ready to save your clip. Select File – Save as. Name your clip. At the bottom of the screen you’ll see Video and compression. Select change. Choose a codec. I’d suggest a divx or x-vid codec for encoding your clips. That way they won’t be too large in file size. If you saved it as is, the file size could be 1 gig for a one minute clip. Changing the codec reduces this. View screenshot
For further reading on codecs, I suggest reading The Avtech guide

Hopefully this helps. It's quick and simple and will get rid of those unwanted subtitles everybody complains about. I suggest reading up on aspect ratios as well. As this won't indicate the correct ratio (in the resize) but at least it won't look terrible.
Cheers!
