The voices. They never go away. The demon inside me is fighting… ‘Release it…’ I am not Taki anymore… Not now.. I am Remnse…. Remnse… -voices fading..-
There is a time before the new beginning, before the attacks, before the wounds appeared on her body. Way before Taki was infected by the demon. This is the time of her old life, before the Dark Village, but after her departure from her home. This is the life Taki no longer remembers, before Remnse was born. This, is before the beginning.
Chapter I: Before the beginning
I’m alone now… , said a voice inside Taki’s head. She was right. After dropping her little sister at her cousin’s house, she departured from the city. Knowing that this may be the last time she will see her, she lived in regret.
Unlike from the Taki we see now, this one looks slightly different. Her crimson hair was shorter up to her delicate ears. No mark was on her forehead, so thus, there was no bandanna. Yet, she still wore her black attire, but at least this time, she has shoes on.
Trekking through the outskirts of the city, Taki slowed down and glanced over her shoulder. Sighing wearly, she hutched her bag over the shoulder and once again, she moved forward, unaware that her path might take her somewhere where fate meets. But someone has stumbled upon her path.
“Watch where you’re yoing, lady!” the man muttered, but when he first glanced at her face, his eyes widened. “You! Its you.. from..” his voice lowered, “the Prophecy…” Before she could say anything, the man casted a warning glance around the area as expeccting someone to appear so suddenly. “Come with me.” He grabbed her by the arms and pulled her into an old building; perhaps it was already deserted. As soon as they stepped inside, he closed the door and shutted all the blinds, turning to lit a single candle.
Surpised at his remark, Taki inquired him. “Who are you?” The man said nothing for a while and setted the candle on the table, and gestured her to sit down. Taki obeyed, but reluctantly. With a short exhale, he sat down as well, the candle light illuminating his face in the darkness, quite errie. “My name is Petr-è. A bard. After hearing about the Prophecy, I never expected it was true, till I saw you out there.” Staring at him with a puzzled expression, Taki questioned him once more. “And exactly, what is the Prophecy?” Petr-è exhaled slowly and leaned forward, his voice in a low whisper. “Let me tell you a tale…
In the age of light and darkness, a great wizard was born. He fought and battled many creatures back in his time, and was known as Zarin. Yet, during the time of his death, he saw into the future and made it his Prophecy.” His voice became more softer, the light of the candles flickering across his gloomy face. “He placed the vision into a golden seal along with his spirit, hoping that someday, a simple person would come across it and hear his Prophecy. It has been a hundred years, still nothing. However, a young man found a box deep in the bottom of the Great Seas, and the secret of the Prophecy was released. To this day, stories were told everywhere about it. Especially in the place, the Village of Teiprè, which was near the Sea.” Judging from the persistant blank expression on Taki’s face, he relucatantly continued. “I myself only heard bits and bits of the stories of which the Prophecy was said. It was said that the Demon of the Underword, known as Mirthwe, would appear on Earth, destroying everything,” he shuddered, wringling his hand. “yet, it was believed that the fate of one person will change, and that person would be the one to stop him.”
“And what does this have to do with me?” Demanded Taki, determined to hear more. Petr-è drew a long breath, gazing deep into her translucent eyes. “That person, my dear… is you.” It was like the world shut down from her, locking away all the things from her mind. All she could hear was the fast beating of her heart. “Me?”
It wasn’t too long after when Petr-è finally lets her leave, exiting the building with voices now pounding in her head.
But it couldn’t be me.. How? How could it be? Taki at last retreated away from the city, Petr-è watching her off. “May the lord be by your side,” he whispered, clasping his hand together.
The day turned into dusk, the black clouds swirling in a dreadful manner in the sky. Taki brought her gaze upwards, taking a last glance at the sky before stepping through the inner boundaries of the forest. The forest was clustered with thick trees, its canopy crowded together, making the forest much more darker. Not a single sound stirred in the forest, as well as a cricket. As she ventured further and deeper into the forest, the mist grew thicker, yet no sound still. It was as if something drove them away, but what? Careful not to trip on anything or make a loud noise, she disposed of her boots and lays them carefully among a patch by the trees. However, she knew that she might not return for them, so she set back off in her barefeet. The voices of her mother rang in her ears, filling her with sorrow.
I will still love you guys forever and I am always watching over you, everywhere you go…
