Luckily for Lydia, she was found by a traveling priestess of the Order of the Pearl's Light. The priestess, for unknown purposes, snatched Lydia from her imprisionment and certain death and brought her to the first temple of her order. There, for the first time, Lydia was accepted by those around her. This was in part because of the pearl she was gifted with, one fitted with a spell to help make her 'madness' silent.
With the Priestesses she learned reading and writing, though she never truly excelled at either, as well as history and the herbalist's trade, though she only could ever remember what was poisonous and what was edible. One thing that she nurtured at the temple was her art, and in that she had no match. Drawing was her outlet, her way to stop the madness whenever it loomed larger than the small spell created for her.
When she was 16 she finished all the Temple-bound training of a noviciate of the order. The Holder of the pearl, the High Priestess of the order, sent her out in the world for a year and a day of traveling, the final step of training before Lydia can become a full priestess of the Order of the Pearl's Light.
