Chapter 1: Venouslea
It had been a normal sunny day in Venouslea the all time Capital of the world Venus, its cities glimmering in the calm night sky, the dome barely visible.
“Rogan Thealle you wake up this instant!, Rogan!” a cheerful voice cried out at her sleeping self, she murmured slowly then she opened her eyes calmly the ceiling light flashing in her eye she turned sideways and exposed her sight to her friend standing over her; her friend was wearing her school uniform which looked more like a military uniform, her soft blonde hair had been tied back in a ponytail, Rogan finally got up wiping her eyes.
“Why are you up so early?” Rogan asked sleepily as she reached for her glasses she slipped them on then looked to her friend again who was a turned out to the door talking to someone else “Thitaya?” Rogan called as she tried to get her attention.
“Oh! Sorry, good morning “Thitaya said while turning around instantly and smiling to Rogan. “Haven’t you checked your schedule? It’s graduation day! How can you miss that?” Thitaya said cheerfully.
“I didn’t” Rogan had replied standing up and walking to her dress room.
“Then why are you sleeping in?” Thitaya commented.
“Well you know how I am … I don’t look THAT forward to these kinds of things” Rogan answered as she started changing to her uniform.
“But it’s graduation, and from command school aren’t you the LEAST bit excited?” Thitaya said with a grin.
“Maybe a little …” Rogan replied stepping out of the dress room fitted nicely in her uniform.
“ooo looking good Rogan” Thitaya smiled.
“It aint different from any other school day Thitaya”
Rogan had known Thitaya since the early days of high school they’d been friends ever since and had gone to Command School together, Rogan had always been uptight and always done things on the mark her parents are of course highly respected people in all of Venus her father had been an Admiral for the Military or Venus and her mother a highly skilled doctor, one of the best in the alliance. Rogan had never really seen her parents a lot, always bust with their job and she lived in the dormitory most of her life alone but she had her close friend at her side but she knew from day one of Command school they would not be together after they had graduated … Rogan had always dreamt of going farther than Venus, it was the only planet she had ever known, she joined Command school in hopes in maybe to become a Captain in the Earth Alliance, her parents had known of this but they talked it out. But she could not just leave her best companion behind she knew that this was the day they would either split paths or stay together, she had not talked to Thitaya about it but she knew Thitaya was the non-Adventuress person.
It was day before anyone knew it, Thitaya and Rogan had been playing on the fighter simulations for fun for the rest of the night as morning hit, there was everyone in lines, sorted out by class standing straight, Rogan could see from the edge of her glasses Thitaya was smiling happily behind her waiting for the headmaster. Moments later the headmaster walked out the stage giving a faint smile to everyone “I am very proud of you all who have graduated this day from the Venus Universal Command School, you have all worked your hardest and in time became the best of the best, you are all take the largest step in your life, that will change you forever as you step into the field of command you will see for yourself, commanding a starship your leadership qualities or of the best I look forward to see you all as Captains, Generals even Admirals, you have all worked well and hard, for your dignity and for your strength you will succeed in your endeavors weather it is to explore your wildest dreams or to fight our way to peace, I Headmaster John Elias congratulate you, your all fine men and women” the room was silent Rogan could see the passion in everyone’s face she was touched and she had smiled proudly to herself.
After the graduation Rogan felt her own sense of delight and pride, she walked along in the wall with Thitaya talking about the day, Thitaya had seemed extremely happy and started talking about her plans for the future, Rogan didn’t know what to say when Thitaya had asked her what she was going to do in the future. Rogan’s heart raced as she stopped and leaned against a pillar that was close to the window, she sighed softly looking out it.
“What’s wrong Rogan?” Thitaya asked as she stopped as well.
“It’s just your planning to stay here in Venus … aren’t you?” Rogan said her eyes glistening in the sunlight.
“That’s what I said … why?”
“Well … I’ve been on about this since we joined Command School … I want join the Earth Military” Rogan replied her voice trailing off, the two were silent for a moment then Thitaya spoke softly “So this is why you’ve been down lately? …” Thitaya just smiled and hugged her friend. “I’ll come with you!” Thitaya said smiling widely.
Rogan smiled brightly “but what about your parents?”
“They never get along … but I want to go with you, who would I talk to and tease if you weren’t here?” Thitaya replied still keeping the smile.
“There’s nothing that would make me happier than to have you by my side” Rogan said smiling hugging her friend.
When Rogan had gotten home to her parent’s house she spent some time with her parents talking about what was next she had 5 more days until the transport to Earth was due to arrive at, she had spent quality time since she had now been off school now. Her father had even quizzed her several times just to see if she was really ready.
As time past they there they were, Rogan and Thitaya with their things ready to board the shuttle to Earth, Rogan hugged her father and mother tightly, Thitaya hugged her parents as tight as she could, then some words were exchanged between the families.
“Take care of yourself Rogan, don’t die out there” Rogan’s mother smiled and hugged her daughter one last time. “Don’t take unnecessary risks … and look sharp” Rogan’s father winked and hugged her daughter as well and whispered into her ear “take care my loving daughter” Rogan felt touched she turned around slowly and waited till Thitaya’s last words were done then they both started to the shuttle Rogan had looked over her shoulder and had seen both families crying softly she even saw the smallest tear in her fathers eye, both of the young girls waved their last goodbye and entered the shuttle the door closed automatically and the ship started it’s last preparations to launch.
“Can you believe were really doing this?” Thitaya said as she seated herself.
“I don’t need to believe … we are doing this” Rogan added as the intercom lighted up and the sound of the pilot echoed throughout
Everyone’s attention we are now launching, we advise everyone to stay
in their seats until the launching blast has dissipated.
