First Kiss

Up

"Awwwww…Cut it out! C’mon! Let go!" Carrot pleaded vainly as he struggled and flopped helplessly, his arms pinned to the ground by the two girls. Tira he could probably throw off, but then she might get hurt, and he’d be in even more trouble then. ‘Cause she’d start crying and Chocolate would hit him, and Mom ‘n Dad would scold him fer playin’ too rough. But geez! Someone needed to tell that to the Misu sisters! So instead he continued to plead and beg, his body twitching convulsively as the sisters discussed his fate.

"But I dunno how…" Tira whimpered, her tiny hands holding onto Carrot’s right arm, mysteriously the only limb not moving.

"It can’t be hard… All they do is smush their faces together…" Chocolate responded matter-of-factly, her concentration focused on the arm that she was having considerably more trouble with. "They do that ‘n call each other ‘sweetheart’ ‘n ‘darling’." She paused to examine Carrot’s slightly panicked face, leaning close and peering into his eyes. "Whadda ya say, Carrot? Can I call you Dahling?" The word rolled off her tongue in a breathily musical tone. Carrot’s eyes widened and his head rocked back and forth.

"No!!! Ewwwww! C’mon! I really wasn’t gonna do it! I swear!" he moaned.

"Do what, Dahling?" Chocolate leaned even closer in, her nose nearly brushing his, her voice a low purr.

"Onee-sama!" Tira squealed, leaning in herself.

Chocolate merely shot her younger sister an indignant glance, straightening up and replying in a huffy tone, "Well…I don’ see why he wanted ta kiss that girl in the first place! What’s the big deal, huh?" The last part is addressed to Carrot, who promptly sweatdropped. "If you can kiss her, you can kiss us!"

Tira blushed and ducked her head, mumbling an embarrassed "Onee-sama!" Though intimidated by the idea, she was even more intimidated by her brash older sister. Frankly, she didn’t see what the fuss was all about. Neither did Chocolate. Why did he persist in chasing all the town girls, young and old alike? He was just a kid! What was it about smushing faces together that drove him to make an absolute fool of himself time after time? Through her mind danced the images of Carrot chasing anything alive and in a skirt, his lips puckered as he proclaimed his desire.

They’d caught him at it again, trapping a fifteen year old against a tree by the river. Peering through the underbrush, they watched in horrified amazement as the scrawny little boy held the older girl (she was nearly twice his age!) in place. Crashing through the bushes distracted him long enough for the girl to duck under his arms and disappear, leaving him wishing that he could do the same. There was an odd look in Chocolate’s eye, a twisted, curious look as she sweetly inquired if she was interrupting anything? Tira followed mutely, circling around until Chocolate rushed him. He woulda been able to fend off Chocolate had not Tira, at that moment, pushed the back of his knees forward, buckling his legs underneath him.

A small voice nagged at Chocolate as Carrot lay stunned underneath their hands, questioning why, if it was so important, had he not tried to kiss either one of them? Hmph! Well, she certainly was gonna fix that today!

A rather ambitious heave from Carrot broke her reverie and Chocolate settled herself more firmly in place, trying to cover as much of his bucking body as she could, realizing that Tira wasn’t going to be much help.

"Tira! Hold on ta him for a second!" Chocolate exclaimed, waiting for Tira to leverage her body against Carrot before scrambling up, throwing a leg across Carrot’s body and settling heavily on his chest, facing forward. Carrot only emitted an "umph!" and a series of sad groans. Avoiding her sister, Chocolate carefully maneuvered a foot into place on each arm before leaning over, resting her chins in her hands, and her elbows on Carrot’s chest. "Okay Tira-chan! You can let go now."

Tira peeked upward, one small finger pushing her glasses up. "Now what?" she queried, her voice trembling slightly.

"Kiss him, of course!" Chocolate responded in exasperation, straightening up and placing her balled fists on her hips. Catching the shocked look that crossed her younger sisters face, she grunted, shifting her seating slightly. "C’mon! I can’t hold him down all day!"

"But…onee-sama…" Tira’s voice was hardly more than a whisper, "I don’ know how!"

"Well…that’s easy ‘nuff. Jus’ stick your face together an’ suck!"

Tira’s face deepened to burgundy as she sat, just looking at her sister. With a small sigh, she crawled over Carrot’s arm and knelt by is head, avoiding his eyes.

"Awwww… C’mon! Tira! Chocolate! Let me go… TIRA!!" Carrot’s pleas rose in intensity, ending in a terrified squeak as Tira leaned in, her pink pigtail tickling his nose as she gently brushed her lips against his, pulling in delicate suction for a bare instant. Releasing with a small sigh and an expression of amazement which quickly dissolves into one of dreamy contentment, she breathed "Oh, Carrot," her hands clasped in front of her chest.

Chocolate stared at her younger sister with one eyebrow climbing into her hairline, clearly baffled by the reaction, while Carrot twitched spasmodically under her, his eyes glazed. "So…?" she prodded, nudging her sister with one foot, quickly returning it to its position on Carrot’s arm. Tira merely sighed again, a blush spreading from underneath the reflection of her glasses. Chocolate snorted and muttered darkly, "I don’ see what the big deal is…" as she leaned forward, replacing feet with hands, using the weight of her body to hold Carrot still, positioning herself so that she was spread across Carrot’s body, her hands firmly holding his upper arms pinned. Carrot’s eyes widened in panic as she dipped her head downwards, firmly planting her lips on his.

The touch seemed to revitalize Carrot, shocking his body into movement. Flinging his arms upward, he clasped Chocolate’s arms, and with a mighty heave, rolled away from Tira, taking a surprised Chocolate with him and breaking the facial contact. The action shook Tira from her stupor, an alarmed wail rising from her throat.

As the dust cleared, a smugly triumphant Carrot sat astride Chocolate, his exultant grin quickly evaporating into a nervous grimace at the sound of the approaching footsteps Tira’s crying had drawn. Glancing down at Chocolate, he was surprised to see twinkling eyes and a dreamy half-smile instead of the murderous expression she assumed whenever he made Tira cry.

"Carrot!" "Carrot-chan!" Carrot released Chocolate’s arms, his back ramrodding straight at the sound of his name. The horrified expression on his Mom and Dad’s faces as they surveyed the scene: Tira crying a few feet from where he sat astride the silently pinned Chocolate, sealed his fate.

Carrot huffed, crossing his arms across his chest defensively as he trudged by his parents’ side with a sniffling Tira trailing behind, selectively filtering out their scolding. A faint whisper tugged at his ear, capturing his attention, and he glanced over his shoulder, spying the rapidly shrinking figure of Chocolate still lying on the ground. She had rolled to her side, propping herself up on her elbow, and was staring after them with a sleepy half-smile curling the corners of her mouth upward. She sighed and murmured something, and Carrot heard the whisper again, alive with promise and prophecy, divination and doom. "Dahling…"
