Basic Facts:
Okay, some basic facts about Frieza: he's King Kold's youngest son and has one older brother, Coola. He also has a son, Kuriza, who is featured in a parody manga written by Toriyama, and also as an alternative outfit for Frieza in the game Dragonball Z 2 V, a special edition of the game Dragonball Z: Budokai 2 which was released in Japan with only 1000 copies made.
Frieza has 4 forms in total - his 4th being his true 'natural' form, while the other 3 are simply forms he acquired as he got older to help him contain and control his power. (Little fun fact - Frieza is actually what Akira Toriyama thought monsters looked like in his childhood :P)His 4th form can be powered up even further by him going into 100% mode, where he gets a little bulkier and can access his true potential. Also interesting fact - he had a power level of 50,000 when he was born - kind of impressive! Makes you wonder how strong his brother Coola was as a baby, since Frieza is believed to be the weaker of the two.
Job:
Frieza has an empire of his own and spends his time running it, bossing people around and generally getting his way. From what we can gather from the series he has a lot of workers under his control, all from various planets and classes, and it is Frieza's workers who tend to do the dirty work such as purging planets and battling on his behalf. Frieza seems to hold back and get involved in the political side of things, only coming out to fight when his workers just can't cut it.
Frieza also spends his time running the Planet Trade Organisation alongside his brother, an organisation which employs and enslaves races to purge or destroy planets for a price - hence the name. The Organisation was actually started by King Kold (according to the Daizenshuu) sometime before Age 732 A.D. and he is its 'official' leader, but for reasons unknown he doesn't make himself known to its members and so his sons Frieza and Coola are for all intents and purposes the Organisation's leaders, appearing in meetings, making decisions and taking part in the day-to-day running of the place. The Organisation was deactivated in August, Age 764 A.D., when King Kold and Frieza were killed.
Workers:

Frieza has a number of different races under his control. The only race officially named is the saiyans, whom Frieza started a partnership with in 731 A.D. His relationship with the saiyans was good for a while and a lot of the saiyans even enjoyed being under his rule, they got some great assignments from him and could go round purging planets and building their skills all day long. However, Frieza's relationship with them came to a bitter end when the saiyans started becoming too powerful. First of all the saiyan Bardock had a vision of Frieza destroying Planet Vegeta and tried to convince his fellow workers to rise up against Frieza. None of them listened so Bardock went to go against Frieza alone. Meanwhile King Vegeta, the ruler of the saiyans invaded Frieza's ship and fought past Frieza's guards to reclaim his planet and his son Prince Vegeta, both of which Frieza had under his control. Frieza easily killed King Vegeta and decided that the saiyans were becoming a threat and would soon be so powerful that they would all be able to rise up against him. By this time Bardock was also outside Frieza's ship battling the hundreds of guards that went to stop him. Bardock challenged Frieza to come out, so Frieza emerged from his ship and calmly as anything sent a huge ball of power that destroyed Bardock and Planet Vegeta along with him. Only the saiyans out on a mission or aboard Frieza's ship (Prince Vegeta, Nappa and Raditz) survived, and spend the rest of their lives (bar Vegeta) working for Frieza. Of course the one exception here is Goku, who was only a baby at the time and already on his way to Earth.
As for the rest of his workers... Frieza is always accompanied by his trusty sidekicks Zarbon and Dodoria. Zarbon is his right-hand man and the highest and strongest of Frieza's workers, while Dodoria is in second place. Much like Frieza Zarbon tends to only come out to fight when his subordinates are failing. Dodoria is seen in the Bardock Special taking out Bardock's crew for Frieza, and he also gets involved in the fights on Namek, while Zarbon's only mission in the series is to go after a rebellious Vegeta on Namek and bring him back to Frieza alive. Maybe Zarbon is more of an advisor than a hitman.
Then there is the Ginyu Force, a group of five comedic aliens that fight for Frieza on Namek. While the Ginyu Force are only seen working for Frieza, it is believed that they are not actually his full-time employees and are in fact a group of mercenaries that Frieza hired to help his other workers on Namek.
Death:
Frieza has had a few encounters with death in his time, not unlike the guys that actually killed him :p
His first fall was on Planet Namek, the same he first appeared on in the series. After a long fight Goku eventually puts an end to the battle, seeing Frieza weakening so rapidly he says it would be pointless to continue. Goku then turns his back on Frieza, and Frieza throws a destructo disk at him which Goku dodges and the disk spins around to cut Frieza in half. Frieza then begs for mercy and Goku, being the loving man that he is decides to give Frieza a second chance and spare his life. He gives Frieza some of his own ki to help him rebuild his strength before turning to leave Namek. Frieza however is far from grateful; refusing to be defeated and owing his life to a monkey he gathers up all his remaining energy and attacks Goku. This angers Goku to no end and he repels Frieza's ki blast and unleashes his own Kamehameha move, seemingly destroying Frieza. Goku then tries to escape Namek in Frieza's ship but can't make it take off, and so he is destroyed by the blast along with Planet Namek.
Frieza disappears for a while, only to come back later as who is commonly known as Cyborg Frieza. It is then revealed that after his destruction on Namek Frieza is found by his father King Kold floating in outer space, in several pieces. Kold gathers all the pieces together and rebuilds his son using metal to fill in any missing parts. The two of them then head to Earth to get their revenge on Goku, but are greeted by a mysterious youth who is half-saiyan half-human. Yes, you guessed it - Mirai Trunks! Mirai quickly disposes of Frieza - for good this time. He then turns to King Kold who begs for mercy and blames all the bad stuff he ever did on Frieza, saying it was Frieza who was the true evil one and he was just doing what Frieza asked (sell-out!). Mirai didn't buy it and destroyed King Kold too.
Attacks & Abilities:
Flight
His most basic movement aside from walking and drinking. Frieza flies by pushing ki off the ground.
Death Ball
A spark of ki lights on his index finger, and once enough energy is gathered this spark may grow to the size of a small moon. He then throws it at the target. I believe he used this to destroy Planet Vegeta in the Bardock Special and the series flashbacks.
Daichiretsuzan ("Great Earth Cutting Row")/Death Wave
A very long, powerful invisible blade-like energy beam Frieza creates with two tips of his fingers. As stated by Frieza, it can slice through anything. The attack isn't actually named in the English dub of the anime, but in the English version of the Dragonball Z: Budokai series for Playstation 2 it is called Death Wave.
Death Beam
Originally known as Frieza Beam in the Japanese version (Furīzabīmu) and also known as Death Laser, this is Frieza's favourite killing technique. He extends his right arm and fires a small, bullet-like beam of ki from his index finger, which barrels down and pierces the opponent. Frieza can fire this attack extremely quickly whilst still maintaining a precise aim. Frieza uses this attack to kill both Dende and Vegeta in the series, and he also uses it to heavily wounding Piccolo. The attack was named Death Beam in the U.S. releases of Dragonball Z video games.
Hokaku Kon Dan ("Imprisonment Ball")
This is a special attack used only on Goku in the series. Frieza captures his opponent in a ball of energy they cannot break out of. He can manipulate the ball as much as he wants, but it explodes as soon as it touches any surface other than Frieza himself.
Laser Eyes
A precise laser-like beam shot from the eyes. It isn't a very strong attack but it is fast and able to nullify lesser attacks and small projectiles, as well as destroy weaker opponents and obstacles. The attack is used by Frieza to enter the hut of the Namekian elder Guru while seeking the Dragon Balls, and also during the battle with Goku.
Telekinesis
Frieza can lift or move large objects through the air with his mind. Used in his fight with Goku.
Tsuibi Kienzan("Chasing Energy Circle Razor")/Destructo Disk
Named Destructo Disk in the English dub, Frieza's disks are similar to the normal Kienzan (most commonly used by Krillin) except Frieza's are faster, coloured purple, and can be controlled remotely. Frieza creates two of these to hound Goku until he is sliced in half by his own attack. In the Playstation 2 game Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 2 this attack is named "Death Saucer."
Henshin ("Transformation")
Frieza's ability to morph himself from a weaker state to a more powerful one. There are 4 forms displayed by Frieza in the series, the 4th and final form being his true form and the other three merely a containment of his true power. Frieza's 4th and most powerful form can also bulk up to allow Frieza to use 100% of his power.
Yubisaki kara no Shogekiha ("Shockwave Blast From The Finger")/Crazy Finger Beam
A fairly weak, but incredibly fast burst of energy which explodes at a location Frieza points to. He uses this ability many times in rapid succession to quickly defeat Piccolo after transforming into his third form. It is named Crazy Finger Beam in the Dragon Ball Z: Budokai games.
