A New War
Written by Axeon on 06-04-04

It has come to my attention once again that Point-Blank stands accused of ripping information. In fact, this accusation has long since stood in the wake of a series of bad events regarding a certain individual who shall remain nameless. In efforts to tarnish the reputation and growing popularity of our website, these individuals sought to wreak havoc upon us by accusing us of something we have most definately never done -- and that is the theft of information.

Recently, I noticed a surge (...)

Next up is another review by me for another new series called Tenjou Tenge. Next series up is for Full Metal Panic? Fumoffu done by Batousai Dave, who has not done a review in a very long time. The last review to be published so far is by Shiryuu, who has done some reviews for us before, for the anime Lupin III: To Hell with No (...)

RahXephon: Tagen Hensoukyoku
Written by TGA on 06-13-04

I only recently got around to watching this title - probably because I had heard so many bad things about it; i.e. that it was basically a rip-off of an entire series. As I have stated several times now, (Think: Macross - Do You Remember Love?, Fist of the North Star, Kenshin 2nd OVA) I generally dont look kindly on films rehashed from series. If they had all that time, why not expand on the storyline or for that matter, create a whole new storyline?

While some of these films can stand up to scrutiny on their own, Rahxephon is not one of them. Rahxephon disappoints everyone. There are two types of viewers:

(1) Those that have seen the series and
(2) Those that have not.

(1) For those that have watched the series its galling that so much was left out, that theres nothing genuinely new and that it stays so closely to the series at times (and where it strays from the series, its not in the right direction.)

(2) For those that have not watched the series there is too much information and its obvious that they have left alot of important elements out. Its not a stand alone film that can be honestly watched without first having watched the series.[Oops!]

Having said all that, I have seen alot worse. The animation is very nice in certain scenes(certainly near the end), and in general its of a high standard. The characterisation - forgetting the series for a minute here - is good. I also liked the voice acting - I thought it was actually brilliant. The only problem with the film is the actual plot where certain scenes dont get enough time to convey to me, the viewer, their importance. Maybe if it had been an hour longer...

In conclusion: a bad direction of a good storyline. Whoever had the scissors in the editing department should be fired. I cut two points from plot and characters to compensate for the woeful editing.
