Chapter 12

Bulma sighed in frustration. She had been studying this thing for hours and she was no closer to figuring it out than she was when she started. She rubbed her tired eyes and decided to take a break. She walked over to the coffeepot and poured a mug full then flopped down in the leather chair behind her desk.

She was starting to get really angry with herself. She needed to figure out what the object on her workbench was...and fast. She knew that it could be a vital clue that would help the Z Warriors find the androids and destroy them. The only problem was that she couldn’t concentrate on her work. She kept thinking about Vegeta.

She hadn’t seen him since the day the androids arrived. Trunks (Kami, she still couldn’t believe that the boy from her future was her baby) had told her that he had gone off to train on his own even though the rest of the Z fighters were staying close to Goku to protect him. Bulma really wasn’t surprised by this news, she was amazed that Vegeta had even bothered to tell Trunks where he was going. Anyway, she was glad the rest of the guys were sticking by Goku because he was so weak from the heart virus that he couldn’t possibly defend himself against the androids.

The androids...they hadn’t turned out to be nearly as bad as she had expected. They were certainly no cakewalk, but Vegeta had defeated the first one handily and she was sure he could do the same to the others once he found them. She had total faith in his power and strength.

“Oh, Vegeta,” she sighed in anguish. She had been so thrilled to see him on the day that the androids came, but she felt his loathing of her immediately. She couldn’t believe he was still so angry with her after all of these months. She had wanted so badly to reach out to him but he made it crystal clear that he wanted nothing to do with her. One of the androids had blown her capsule car out of the sky...and he didn’t move a muscle to save her or their son. They would have both died if Trunks (the future Trunks) hadn’t moved so quickly and saved them. As soon as she hit the ground she screamed out to him with her mind. He answered her by completely knocking down her mental wall and invading her deepest thoughts. In those brief moments she felt at first unbridled contempt and then an emotion that she could only describe as surprise. He then withdrew from her mind so quickly, she had almost passed out.

By the time she had fully regained her wits, Vegeta and Trunks were giving her the third degree about Dr. Gero. The next thing she knew, they were both flying off in search of the mad scientist and she had no chance to question him.

Bulma sighed heavily and shook herself back to the present. She stood up to go back to work but froze in her tracks when she saw Vegeta standing in the doorway.

“V..Vegeta,” she stammered, “How long have you been standing there?”

“Long enough,” he growled. He kicked the door shut and walked over to the workbench. He examined the object carefully. “It’s some kind of egg.”

“Yeah,” Bulma replied, “that’s what Trunks thought too, but I can’t find any known species that hatches from that kind of egg.”

“I doubt you ever will,” he said with disgust.

“What are you doing here?” she asked him after several moments of silence.

“Now,” Vegeta said sarcastically, “that’s a really stupid question coming from such a smart woman.”

Bulma didn’t bother to reply. She turned her back to him and began studying the object again.

“Do you think you can dismiss me so easily, Woman?” he asked grabbing her shoulders and turning her around to face him.

“Why not?” Bulma returned, “you certainly seem to have totally dismissed me and your son. Great Kami, Vegeta, we could have been killed and you didn’t even try to save us!” She couldn’t hold back the cries that tore from her throat. She leaned against his chest and sobbed violently.

“I wouldn’t have let you die,” he said soothingly, “I had plenty of time to save you, but the boy beat me to it.”

“Really?” Bulma looked up at him, her eyes full of hope.

Vegeta chuckled, “I was only waiting so that I could teach you a lesson. You had no business being out there and you had even less business putting my son in such danger. You have no idea how much I wanted to wring your neck when I saw you.”

Bulma pushed away from him, “Is that why I felt such anger when you touched my mind? Were you just upset that I had brought Trunks out there?”

“No,” Vegeta answered flatly, “that’s not why you felt such anger from me.”

“Then why, Vegeta?” she asked quietly, “I felt so much contempt I thought it would kill me.”

Vegeta walked away from her and leaned against her desk. He crossed his arms across his chest and considered her carefully. “I came home the night before the androids came.” He finally said.

“No you didn’t....” she started, but then she remembered waking up and feeling his anger in her bedroom, “I thought I was having a nightmare.”

“Well, I felt much the same way when I discovered that Yamcha was sleeping in the same house as my family,” he ground out.

“Yes he was there because...” again she stopped as the full meaning of his words dawned on her. “You thought that I...that we...YOU BASTARD!” she screamed at the top of her lungs. “How dare you think I could do something so awful? I can’t believe that you still don’t trust me!”

Vegeta pushed away from the desk and stalked up to her. He grabbed her shoulders and yanked her roughly up against his body. “What was I supposed to think?” he snarled, “I’d been away for months and I come home to find another man, your ex-lover, asleep in my house.”

“Get your hands off me,” Bulma spat in rage.

“You’re mine,” Vegeta growled against her face, “I’ll touch you whenever I want to, however I want to.”

He claimed her mouth in a violent and bruising kiss. Bulma struggled to break free from him but he was too strong. She felt him push his tongue into her mouth and his hands rip open her shirt. His hands assaulted her breasts while his mouth continued to make passionate demands on hers. She moaned in spite of herself and wrapped her arms around his neck, straining to get closer to him. He smirked against her mouth and gentled his assault. He pushed her skirt up around her waist and slid down her panties.

“I’m sorry, Bulma,” he ground out, “I have to have you now.”

“Don’t be sorry,” she panted, undoing his pants and freeing his erect penis, “I need you just as bad.”

Vegeta thought he would die of pleasure when he slid inside her. He had given her no pleasure, no foreplay, but she was wet and ready for him. He thrust in and out of her frantically groaning with the liquid heat of each thrust. Bulma squeezed herself tightly around him and screamed his name as they both surrendered to orgasm.

Vegeta gently untangled her body from his. He zipped up his pants and helped her put what was left of her clothes back on.

“I promise, Bulma,” he said quietly, “I will never doubt your loyalty again.”

Bulma turned slowly to face him, “You saw inside my mind, Vegeta. Surely you know now how much I love you. I would die if another man ever touched me.”

“Yes,” he replied, “I saw.”

Bulma ripped her gaze from his and slipped on a lab coat to cover her ripped blouse. “Would you like to go see Trunks?”

“I already saw him,” Vegeta admitted. “I did that before I came out here, just in case you refused to let me see him.”

“I would never try to prevent you from seeing your son,” she said earnestly, “besides, I could hardly stop you.”

“Oh, I don’t know,” Vegeta said with a smirk, “you can get pretty feisty sometimes. By the way, what the fuck happened to his tail?”

Bulma sighed tiredly. She had been dreading this moment since she had the doctor remove the tail, “Vegeta,” she tried to placate him, “you know he couldn’t keep it.” She braced herself for the explosion she knew would follow.

But to her surprise, Vegeta simply raised his eyebrows and muttered, “No, I guess he couldn’t.”

“Come home, Vegeta,” the words tumbled out before she could stop them.

“I can’t,” he said gently, “not yet. There is still a great danger. Not only do I have to find Gero and his androids, but there is another power out there that I must deal with.”

“I know,” Bulma admitted, “Trunks told me. But I just had to ask...”

“I’ve got to go now,” he said regretfully, “I promise I’ll see you soon.”

“OK,” Bulma murmured sadly, “please be careful.”

Vegeta bent to tenderly kiss her goodbye. “You can count on it.”
