Home of the Galaxy in Peril Online Science Fiction Novel Project

This page is where you can find Galaxy in Peril, my online sci-fi novel.  You can also find links for the first person shooter Half Life, its mods, and a few of my very own custom maps.  The prologue to my currently on-hold manga project, Reiteki na Sensou is also here.  Any questions or comments you have for improving the site can be directed to my email address.  I hope you enjoy your stay -Benjamin F. News:

Well, I know it took me long enough, but I've finally got around to updating my website.  Fortunately things haven't been quite as busy for me at work, lately, so I've had time to finish the first chapter of Galaxy in Peril.  I'm going to try releasing a chapter a week, operational commitments and duties permitting.  I highly recommend reading the prologue, so that you aren't totally confused as to what's going on, and have more background info on the story.

In other news, the flags on every ship and building in both the US Navy and Japanese Maritime Self Defense Force bases in Yokosuka were flown at half-mast today.  The Columbia accident was tragic, but it was still an accident.  My condolences go out to the families of the victims.  Even though Astronauts and their families, like those in the military, always know that they might not come home from a mission, but even that is of little help when that eventuality occurs.

In other, other news, I've got the final versions of my first two Counter Strike maps, CS_Japan, and DE_Blkmesa done, with PODbot waypoints for DE_Blkmesa.  I'll be posting the ZIP files for these maps on my Half Life page, along with some screenshots and a map description, sometime later this week.  I've almost got my third, and so far most complicated, CS map finished as well.  This one is called CS_DooM, and has a number of custom textures.  Most of the textures are 8-12 years old, and the true 3d FPS gamers should recognize them.  I'd tell, but I want you to look at the screenshots and try to guess what games they came from. ;-)

Japanese Phrase of the Week:

Kunoichi

Kunoichi is the Japanese word for a female Ninja.  The word's origin, as told to me by Mr. Tanaka, one of my Japanese friends, comes from the kanji for 'woman' (onna).  When broken down into the strokes used to write the character, the first stroke is the hiragana 'ku' .  The second stroke is the katakana 'no' and the final stroke is the kanji for 'one' (ichi) .  Since the kunoichi often disguised themselves as men, going so far as to wrap their chest with cloth in order to hide their breasts, it only made sense that the word describing women disguised in this manner should be the kanji for woman in disguise.  Interesting, ne?
