Full Metal Panic Review
Full Metal Panic
*I have a Hong Kong subtitled version of this series, so if the review is sketchy, I blame the funky subtitles*
Full Metal Panic starts off in some kind of snowy wasteland during some kind of confusing scenario where a car is being chased by a helicopter and... stuff. The helicopter shoots the car up, the driver dies, and the female passenger flees after picking up a computer disc off the ground. A giant robot appears, destroys the helicopter, and stuff. The robot's pilot then emerges, sedates the girl, and we have no idea what's going on. Then the scene changes.
We find out that the robot's pilot is named Sigara Sosuke, and he is a member of some kind of group called Mithril, which is somehow connected with the U.N. Their purpose isn't clear, but they seem to be in the business of protecting. Who or what they protect I haven't figured out yet.
Sosuke and his comrades Mau and Kruz are given a new assignment, to protect a student named Kaname, because Mithril believes she will be targeted by a terrorist group for a project involving the "Whispered," people who have extensive knowledge of military thingies.
The seriousness of the series mostly disappears at this point as Sosuke transfers to Kaname's school and tries to protect her from the terrorists who may be after her. For the first handfull of episodes, there are no terrorists, just a lot of hilarious situations where Sosuke thinks there are terrorists.
Eventually, Mithril locates the terrorists base and blows it up. Sosuke is taken off the assignment, and everyone tries to have a normal life. Then the terrorists show up. While Kaname and her classmates are heading to Okinawa for a school trip, their plane is hijacked and taken to some island, where Kaname is separated from everyone else. Here, Sosuke pulls out his Mission:Impossible-style skills and rescues Kaname amidst many explosions and much shooting. Mithril comes and rescues Kaname's classmates, but is forced to leave Kaname, Sosuke, and Kruz for dead. However, they attempt to escape......
That's as far as I've gotten in the series, but I like it!!
Genre: Militaristic Romantic Comedy (never encountered this one before :p)
Suggested Age Group: 13 and up
Basic Review: Both serious and funny, but never at the same time. Death, destruction, swearing, blood, underwear jokes, mildly naughty situations.
