« Chapter 3 »

Mamoru felt a chill go down his spin. He could feel a familiar presence. It called out to him, begging for him to go to it. He couldn't remember ever feeling anything like this presence before, yet he knew it. It caused him to squirm uneasily, and it awakened something inside him that craved for more. It was as if he'd never feel peace again unless he went to see this thing calling to him. But at the same time, he knew it wasn't truly calling out for him. It just inexplicably felt that way. He knew he wasn't supposed to have sensed it at all. Something was already trying to conceal it, to keep others from noticing it was there. Was it trying to hide from him? What was this thing that stirred these feelings deep within him? These longings to see it, to know what it was that attracted him to it.

"Mamoru, are you all right?" He snapped out of the daze he was in and looked down to see Usagi staring up at him from her spot on the couch. She laid there next to him, entwined in his arms where she was watching the movie they rented earlier that night. He shook his head and smiled down at her. "Ya, I'm fine. But..." His brows drew together, giving him a vaguely worried look. He wondered whether or not he should even ask Usagi if she sensed anything. What could it hurt if he did? No, he wouldn't. It would just cause her to worry, and he wouldn't be able to explain what he felt anyway.

"But what?" Usagi looked at him, waiting for him to say something. She didn't like the look on his face. Something was bothering him, or at the very least there was something on his mind. She hoped it was nothing though. It was such a nice night out for them. It was too long since they had truly been able to just sit back and relax. Finally, there wasn't an enemy waiting for them. They could have a break from fighting for their future. She wanted to cherish every second of this freedom. She didn't want anything to be troubling either of them right now. She just wanted to have fun and spend some quality time with the man she loved.

Mamoru could see the worry on her face. Yes, it was better not to mention it right now. Better not to bring up any concerns. It was probably nothing anyway. He couldn't feel the presence anymore anyway. Perhaps it was gone, or perhaps it was just his imagination playing tricks on him. He very much doubted the last possibility, for he still felt as though it was urgent for him to find the source. But it would have to wait until later. He brought a smile to his face "just wondering if you were as thirsty as me? Do you want me to grab you something from the fridge?" It wasn't really a lie. He was thirsty after all, and it was something to answer her question with.

She smiled up at him, a little disappointed that she would have to move. But to think of it, she was a little thirsty too. "Sure, I'd love a Pepsi if you have any." She knew he would, after all it was her favorite drink, and he knew it.

"No problem. Want anything else while I'm up?" He needed to walk a little. To try to think this out. It wasn't like him to obsess over something as fleeting as this, but he couldn't shake the feeling that this was important, that this might change things for him. For the better or worse, it was hard to tell, but it would definitely change things.

"Nope, I'm fine. Just hurry up and come back Mamo-chan." She smiled up at him, a little goofy. She loved him so much. Finally a little break just to be with him, no worries at all. "Do you want me to pause the movie?... Mamo-chan?... Hello?"

He was deep in thought again, but snapped out of it when he noticed Usagi was waiting for him to answer. "Huh, oh ... no... that's ok." He threw his arm behind his back and laughed. *What am I doing? She's going to catch on that something's up if I don't snap out of it* he thought to himself.

He went to the kitchen and grabbed them each a can of pop. Then went out on the balcony for just a few breaths of fresh air. It was so nice out, warm with just a bit of a cool breeze. It felt so good to have it blow through his hair, to help clear his mind of things. He decided then and there to go after whatever that thing was if he could sense it again. Curiosity won over him. Decision made, and mind at ease he returned to his beloved who was waiting anxiously for him in the living room.
