"Well, I don't understand what that has to do with anything," Urei said bitterly,"it doesn't explain why you had to leave, or why we couldn't come with you." Somewhat shocked by Urei's uncharacteristic outburst, everyone was silent. Then Kenmei said slowly,"Urei, the fae are even more strict about outsiders than any other race on Krynn. I would have done anything to bring you all with me, but given my position, I had no choice in the matter. And there are other reasons......,"Kenmei trailed off. Her daughter looked at her expectantly, and Kenmei averted her gaze. "How can I explain this to them? Will they even understand? But more importantly, will Urei accept it all, and what I expect from her?" Kenmei thought,"But I can't avoid it anymore."

      Kenmei began again. "When I said I was the protector of this planet, I meant that it was more than just a title. I have to protect the balance of good and evil, to protect the natural balance in this world. It also means that I have to protect it from invaders, invaders from other worlds. Each planet has such a protector, they are called senshi, and we all inherit special powers so that we can protect our planets and destroy the invaders. They are stronger than any known magic, and they don't require the memorization of any spells. They are like an inborn talent, a gift."

      "But Mother," Urei said,"all that still doesn't explain why you left." "It's quite simple, Urei,"Kenmei said, sighing wearily. "If an invader was trying to take over or destroy a world, it would try to kill the planet's protector and his or her family, so that there would be less resistance to the invasion. I had to leave you all to protect you, so that I wouldn't risk losing you all. I had to leave to take the position as protector, because my own mother had just died, and there was no one else who could do it. The fae lines of succession run only through the daughters, and only if there are no daughters will the sons succeed the mother."

      Urei, who had been listening to her mother intently, gasped when she heard the part about succession. Her eyes widened as her mother nodded and said,"Yes, my daughter, someday you will take my place as protector of Ansalon and Queen of the Galaxy Andromeda, Sailor Andromeda. But that won't be for several hundred years. However, I have come to ask you for your help. There is a great evil gathering power in the universe. Planets are being destroyed one by one, and I fear that this evil is too strong to be defeated by even several Sailor Senshi. But there is a group of senshi living on the planet Earth, quite far from here, who just might be able to do it." "And now for the hardest part," thought Kenmei. "Urei," she began,"I would like to begin training you as the future Sailor Andromeda, so that you can go to the planet Earth and assist those Senshi, including the Moon Princess, in defeating this evil."
