| The Horlick Choir Grading Policy | |
| Chorale | The Chorale is an auditioned SSAB/ SATB chorus that meets daily during 4th period. It conists of students in grades 10-12 that have surpassed specified levels of sight-reading, sight-singing, ear-training and other important music fundamentals. The Chorale performs a large body of literature every school year. Typically, songs representing different cultures, different time periods in history, and many different languages are rehearsed and performed throughout the school year. |
| Singers | The Singers are an SATB/SSAB chamber choir. This group meets daily during 1st period. Members of Singers must first become members of Chorale to qualify for an audition. The audition process of this group is extremely vigorous, so its members are generally students with advanced musical and vocal skill. In addition to making up the royal court of Queen Elizabeth during our Madrigal Dinner, this group performs at a variety of community functions and is often in demand for staff gatherings of business organizations. Emphasis is placed on advanced literature from the madrigal and jazz periods in this group, while a variety of music from many other cultures, time periods, and styles is also explored throughout the school year. This group also gets involved in peer mentoring in the vocal music program. |
| Lorelei | The Lorelei are a group of treble singers, Soprano and alto, with students grades 10-12. It is currently a non-auditioned group consisting of treble singers with a wide range of ability. The title "non-auditioned" tends to misleading, however, since this group has the passion and talent to make great music in a variety of styles. Recent choral explorations have included: Macedian folk songs, Gospel, Rock'NRoll Oldies, Jazz, and American folk, among others. This group meets during 3rd period. |
| Lady Rebels | The Lady Rebel Choir consists of incoming freshmen treble singers. Development of fundamental vocal and musical skills are emphasized in this class, which meets during 6th period. Being a freshman, non-auditioned group is, again, misleading. This group is always enthusiastic and talented. Click Here to hear a sample of this choir from Spring, 2003 (Pablo Casals, "Nigra Sum"). |
| Rebel Choir | This group consists of tenors and basses in grades 9-12. The approach to this class is similar to the Lady Rebels. Often times it is a mixture of freshmen singers, veteran singers, and singers we "discover" in the halls of Horlick High School. Throughout the year, leadership and comradery have a profound effect on the intensity and joy these singers put into their concert performances and daily rehearsals. |
