Disclaimer:
I unfortunately do not own Weiß Kreuz. If I did the story wouldn't have gotten as angsty as it did and Omi would be happy! However this fanfic is mine, Saberu is mine, Walter is mine, and Toran is also mine. No stealing!Warnings: Angst, language, and violence, of course. Only two chapters to go! This is another chapter I really do not like but if I tried to get it to my liking well... It would never get posted!
Chapter 11: The Battle Begins
Saberu was startled by the sudden yell and quickly released Ken's neck, looking over his shoulder. He was shocked to see Omi standing, panting slightly and near tears.
"D-don't hurt him... I-I can't take it anymore..." Omi hated himself so much as he said it. He was telling Saberu, the man he was sure he loved more than anything, not to kill the man whom was trying to kill him! He felt like he was doing something wrong in protesting and what made him feel worse was knowing that him not wanting Saberu to kill him had nothing to do with him not wanting Saberu to dirty his hands further. In fact, it had nothing to do with him and all to do with the man beneath him.
Saberu was stunned. He felt fear strike him as he realized Omi couldn't stand to watch him killing Ken. It scared him to think that just maybe Omi had some recollection of his former teammate. "Omi...what are you talking about...? This man wants to kill us, why are you asking me to stop?!"
"There's something..." for some reason he felt so torn and wanted to cry. He shut his eyes tightly as he could not longer take looking at Saberu's shocked face. "I...I just can't let you kill him, Saberu!"
Saberu felt his world crash. Omi couldn't remember Ken, if he remembered his previous life he would lose him forever.
"I'm sorry, Omi, but I have to," Saberu pulled out a pocketknife and flipped it open. He had to end this now. Omi felt terror as he realized Saberu wasn't going to listen to him.
"Saberu, no!"
Saberu quickly slammed downward, but suddenly he was stopped. Ken reached up and grabbed his wrist. Saberu gasped. Ken shouldn't have been able to move!
"You took your eyes off me...didn't you know you couldn't do that?" Ken asked as he quickly slammed his fist into Saberu's face. Saberu fell to the side, dropping his knife, which Ken quickly retrieved before he could and put it to its intended use.
"Wha-what...?" Saberu asked as he managed to sit up, confused by his comment. Ken didn't hesitate to come at him again. Saberu snapped alert and quickly dodged as Ken tried to strike him with his tigerclaw.
Omi stood there. He wanted it to end, he didn't want Saberu to kill this man but he also didn't want Saberu killed. He didn't know what to think, his head ached horribly as he could hear his inner voice screaming at him, protesting to let either man be killed.
"Stop fighting! Please!" Omi cried, suddenly lashing out and grabbing hold of Saberu in a desperate attempt to keep him from rushing back at the man. He didn't know what else he could do. "Please, I don't want you to fight!" he begged.
"Omi!" Saberu protested as he was held back. He couldn't bring himself to forcefully push Omi away even though he knew he was strong enough that he could do so.
Ken finally managed to stand straight again, though having to place his hand on the wall, still weak from his fight with Saberu. A small smile appeared on his face. There was hope, he knew it.
"Omi... I know... I know you still remember... Please, think hard! Try to remember us! Think of the flower shop! Think of Aya and Yoji! Think of all of us!" he begged, just hoping that something he said triggered something, a memory, anything.
Omi froze. Those words for some reason made sense to him. He closed his eyes for a moment, trying desperately to know, to comprehend what this man was saying. Trying to figure out why he couldn't allow Saberu to kill him.
Omi's eyes opened slowly. "K-Ken-kun..." saying it felt...right. The sound of his name coming from the younger man once again brought instant joy to him.
"Omi! N-no, don't listen!" Saberu begged, desperate to keep him from remembering, to keep him loving him. He refused to lose him like this!
"W...what's wrong with me...wh-why do I feel so strange...?" Omi gasped, his hands beginning to shake. These emotions were scaring him, overwhelming him. He didn't know what to do. Ken, that was his name, that's what he had claimed, right? Why did he feel he knew him when he had never before remembered seeing him?
"Omi, don't listen to him, this man is trying to use you against Saberu," another voice told him.
All of them glanced to the doorway to find Walter standing there with Toran.
"Walter!" Saberu gasped, relieved that they had finally shown up.
"Omi, you know better... Don't you know he's lying? You know you love Saberu, how could you ever doubt him? You know you love him and that should be enough."
"I-I..." Omi quivered. "I know...I know I love him..." as he said it, he almost seemed to be in a trance.
"What...??" Ken's eyes grew wide as he heard the words come from Omi's mouth, proclaiming his love for Saberu. For some reason it stung horribly, whether he truly meant it or not. The words just hurt.
"Then trust in that Omi...let him do what he needs to do, he needs to kill the enemy for your protection..." Walter persuaded him. The sound of his voice just seemed to turn Omi to putty.
Saberu began to feel Omi's grip slip from him. It was so easy to manipulate him to bring him back to their side.
"You have to...I know you have to kill him..." Omi whispered as his arms released Saberu completely. He took a step back, proving to Saberu that he wasn't going to interfere again. He understood now why this man had been trying to take him, he had planned on using him to get to Saberu because he knew how much Saberu loved him. He felt guilty about his previous thoughts now, to think that he had actually thought of complying with this man for even a second made him feel shameful.
"Omi, no! Don't listen to them, they're tricking you!" Ken begged, but it was already too late. Walter had gained him back to their side with a few mere words.
"You were trying to turn me against the man I love...!" Omi yelled at him scornfully before he cast his eyes downward, feeling stupid. "How could I have been so dumb...? Saberu, I'm so sorry..." he begged him for forgiveness for even one second doubting him.
Saberu couldn't believe it, how easy it had been. "Omi...I..." How could he do this now? How could he kill someone he knew Omi cared for deeply? He lost all power, all will to do so. He could not kill Ken now. Not after he had seen how Walter had manipulated Omi.
And he did that, he took Omi's heart and told him to give it to Saberu, to love him. He forced Omi to love someone he didn't, to love someone he would never ever love. To someone who did not even deserve his love. His love was forced, it wasn't real. He had not gained it as Ken had, as all his friends had. He had stolen it. For the first time it really struck Saberu just what he was doing.
"I can't kill him... It would make you sad," Saberu sighed, his head falling forward in defeat.
Walter and Toran froze. They could not believe what they had just heard from their young teammate.
"Saberu, what the hell are you doing?!" Toran nearly screamed and stepped forward, but Walter placed a hand on his shoulder, stopping him from going any further. He wanted to hear what Saberu had to say first.
Saberu looked into Ken's eyes. Ken was obviously too shocked for words.
"Do it... Finish the mission," he ordered. "Hurry up and kill me."
Everyone in the room froze.
"Saberu...?!" Walter was aghast. He knew exactly what he was doing. Saberu was committing suicide. He wanted to die, though saying it was by Ken's hand instead of his own. It was one less sin he didn't have to have.
Omi felt as though he had been punched in the stomach. Saberu had totally forgotten about him, about their future! He couldn't give himself up! "Saberu, what are you saying?!" Omi cried as he reached out to grab his arm. Saberu quickly shoved him, he shoved him hard, causing the boy to give a yell of pain as he hit the ground with a loud thud.
"O-Omi!" Ken gasped, taking a step towards him, wanting to help him, but Saberu quickly stepped in front of him.
"If you want him...you have to kill me first."
"I don't get it," Ken said suspiciously. He couldn't believe that Saberu was willing to give up, to die even. He was convinced there had to be some sort of catch. "Why are you surrendering?" Saberu could beat him easily, he already came close to killing him so it had nothing to do with power.
Saberu gave a wry smile as tears began to form in his eyes. "If I killed you... I could take Omi away and have him forever...and live. Live for unreal love," he told him. "I would rather Omi despise me, hate me, than love me against his will. And since he would hate me..." he closed his eyes, his voice quivering as he forced back a sob. "I can't handle that either, so I might as well die."
Ken had no other choice. He needed save Omi and he needed to carry out the mission. He forced down any sort of compassion he felt for him at that moment and pulled back his hand, ready to kill, and Saberu shut his eyes, not wanting to see the impact.
"Saberu, you idiot!" Toran yelled. Walter quickly rushed forward to stop Saberu from allowing Ken to kill him.
"NO! No, please don't kill him!" Omi begged, recovering from his fall. "Please don't take him away from me! I love him!"
A moment passed... Saberu noticed there was no quick impact. Perplexed, he opened his eyes, only to see that Ken's arm was now hanging limp at his side. Walter stood a few feet behind him, he had stopped in his tracks as he realized that Ken was not going to kill him. It seemed unbelievable. Ken was going against Weiß. Not only was it personal but it was his duty. Yet he had stopped.
"What are you doing?" Saberu asked. He sounded disappointed.
"Omi asked me not to kill you," Ken said, his hand clenched into fist, shaking slightly as he forced himself not to do the one thing he wanted to do so badly. "Right now... He loves you. Killing you would hurt him, so I can't do it."
"...What...?" Saberu could not believe what he was hearing. And Omi, still on the ground, was positively shocked the man had really stopped, had actually listened to his plea. Toran and Walter looked equally as surprised as the rest of them.
"I could never kill someone Omi loved," Ken replied. He looked away, feeling disgusted at the opportunity he was letting slip by. It was hard not to take advantage of the situation, to just kill Saberu right then when he had the chance. He wanted to, he wanted to kill Saberu for all he had done. But he couldn't cause any pain for Omi. He just couldn't do it. Frustrated at himself for his own damn feelings he grunted and pounded the side of his fist into the wall, his head hanging down. "I just can't make Omi cry, no matter what."
"You fool," Walter shook his head in disgust. "Maybe Weiss isn't as smart as I thought they were."
"You'll never survive if you have that kind of compassion," Toran scoffed, equally as disgusted.
"...Thank you..." Omi whispered, a sigh of relief escaping him. "Thank you for not killing him..."
Suddenly, a sound. Toran quickly jumped out the way as a razor wire flew out to wrap around his neck. But he was too slow as he dodged, too late as the wire managed to grab his wrist, ripping the flesh as the man screamed.
"Yoji! Aya!" Ken realized.
A pain entered Omi's head briefly. Those names, they meant something to him. But he just couldn't place it, he couldn't remember.
"Wondering when you would get here," Walter taunted. Meanwhile Toran fell to his knees, looking as though he was about to cry due to his low pain tolerance, cursing loudly. Walter quickly jumped forward, slamming his fist into Aya's face before he could take advantage of Toran's pain, causing him to fall back into the grass. He quickly handled Yoji as well, throwing him back with a wave of his hand and allowing Toran to safely untie the wire from his wrist.
"Damn...!" Ken cursed. He knew they would need his help but he couldn't just leave Omi there. Omi was finally climbing to his feet, feeling sick to his stomach and struggling not to throw up. He even covered his mouth once as he wobbled on his legs.
"Aren't you going to help them...?" Omi questioned Ken suddenly and Ken at first did not even realize he was addressing him. "They're your teammates aren't they? Ken?"
It hurt though Ken did his best not to show it. When he said his name there was no affection in it, it was flat and monotone. He did not even add the affectionate kun after it. His Omi, his friend whom he treasured so deeply... It wasn't him, not then, and he was so afraid that he might never be again. He felt as though Omi had died.
"I can't—just..." he gulped and Omi knew what he was going to say before he could finish it.
"I don't know you," he said. "I don't know who you are. I'm sorry, I know genuinely you care for me...but looking at you," he frowned. "I feel nothing for you."
Ken would never have believed that those words could ever hurt so much.
"So you might as well go help them. I'm not going anywhere," he reassured him knowing that that was the case, he was afraid while he was gone he would sneak away.
Ken gritted his teeth, trying to contain his emotions. He hadn't felt this much emotional pain since he had killed Kase. This was tearing him apart inside, hearing Omi say he meant nothing to him. Even though he continued to tell himself it wasn't Omi, Omi would never say that, it did very little to console him. Because this person looked exactly like Omi, sounded exactly like Omi. He once was Omi. Ken ran past him and out the door to help teammates, because he knew at that moment he could do nothing for him. And right then he was so hurt that he could not even continue to look at him.
Omi was glad to see him leave the room, now it was only he and Saberu alone. He knew something was very wrong. He turned to Saberu looking confused but not willing to accuse him of anything just yet. "Saberu... What's going on? Please, I want the truth."
Saberu chuckled. He was truly disappointed. Ken should have killed him, he deserved to be killed. He didn't care if he was being selfish he was just sick of this. He was sick of loving, of being in pain, knowing that he could never be loved back by the person he loved. "The truth?" he walked past Omi to look out the door. "They're not going to last."
Saberu watched as Aya rushed forward and was instantly knocked back by Walter's powers.
"You idiot... how many times am I going to have to toss you before you to understand you can't beat us?"
Ken quickly tried to take a shot at him, but Walter noticed him and quickly dodged before tossing him aside as Aya, but not before Aya stood and stabbed quickly. Walter found himself actually surprised and only being able to just barely dodge his attack.
He lost his footing in his haste and slipped, falling into the soft grass beneath him.
Saberu was stunned as he watched his own teammate hit the ground.
"You see... Ken found something interesting," Aya told him. "You have to see a target in order to move it...and you can't see what's behind you and in front of you at the same time."
Walter was taken aback for a moment. Finally, he chuckled. "Maybe...maybe you're not as dumb as I thought."
Saberu gritted his teeth. They had found their weakness. That's what Ken had meant earlier. Aya was about to rush at him and finish him, but Walter stopped him.
"Wait a minute! If you kill me you'll never get Omi back!"
Aya froze instantly. He didn't know why, but he had to question him, "What are you talking about...?" killing him should get Omi back, getting rid of the people who held him captive.
Walter grinned. "If you kill me you might never be able to change him back... And if you kill the only family he knows he might not ever care for any of you again..."
Aya froze immediately. He suddenly wasn't sure if he should kill the man or not...
"...no..." Ken gasped. But he realized that Walter might not be lying. Who would ever trust the men who murdered his family? If Omi was stuck like he was now forever any chance of them even becoming friends again was gone. If he lost Omi forever like that he wasn't sure if he could handle it.
Omi felt his heart sink and fought yet again to keep his food down. He had heard what he had said; change him back. Change him back to what? Before he could question Saberu further he suddenly took off. Saberu quickly rushed out to the battlefield, he knew he had to help the only family whom had ever cared for him. Now that Weiß knew how to get to them there was a chance they might win.
"Saberu!" Omi gasped. He didn't hesitate to follow him, he had to find out. Saberu had to tell him the truth. He wouldn't let him get away without knowing.
Saberu meanwhile quickly knocked Aya off his feet with wave of his hand. Aya was a bit stunned as he realized the other member had joined the fight. This allowed Walter to climb to his feet once again. Saberu stopped in front of him.
"Helping?" he questioned as he dusted the dirt from his clothes.
"I have to."
Walter just glared at him. "What you need to do is hurry and take Omi away..."
"I can't, didn't you hear me earlier?" he grumbled. There was no way he was about to drag Omi off into the night. He would not be able to continue with this charade.
"No, I mean before he's killed out here," Walter pointed out. Saberu gasped as he felt someone reach out and seized his arm tightly. Turning to look he saw it was Omi. He held on as tightly as he could so Saberu wouldn't be able to get away from him this time.
"I want to know! Tell me... Tell me the truth!" he begged.
"Damn it... You shouldn't have come out here, you should know it's dangerous!"
"I don't care."
It was at that moment, Toran was having trouble with Yoji and Ken, whom were now coming at him from both angles. Walter quickly rushed in to help him.
"Just do what you need to do," were his last words to Saberu.
Saberu cursed to himself. He took hold of Omi's hand and led him somewhat away, he just didn't want him to get caught in the crossfire and hurt. But Omi refused to follow him any farther than a few feet. Jerking his hand away, he looked up at Saberu with tears in his eyes.
"Tell me... Tell me now, I want to know!" Omi cried. He knew, there was a lie...and he knew Saberu knew the truth. He wanted to know whom these men were and why could he hardly remember things. Why they wanted him back so badly. He fought his tears as the emotions and questions hit him. "Saberu...what is this?" he looked down at his own hands. Why did he feel the way he did, why did he doubt himself?
Saberu closed his eyes. Every time he looked at Omi he melted, he couldn't take looking at him as he revealed the truth. "They are right about everything," it was time to confess, time to tell Omi. The dream was over, this could go on no longer. "You did try to kill me, and I fell in love with you, so Walter and Toran kidnapped you and brainwashed you to love me... Up until now I thought I wasn't at fault, because they were the ones who did it... But no, what I've done is just as bad," and he felt like a great weight had been lifted from his shoulders, telling Omi the truth. It had been what he should have done in the first place.
"Saberu..." Omi gasped, his eyes wide. What Saberu was saying could not possibly be true. His head began to shake slowly in disbelief. "No..." out of everything he could have told him that was the one he was least willing to believe.
Saberu took a step forward, looking down at Omi. "You hate me, Omi..." it was painful for him to say. "You wanted nothing but to kill me. Think...I know somehow that you can remember. You can fight this. You can remember that your love for me is forced..."
But Omi didn't want to remember it. He loved Saberu so much, it was impossible for him to ever hate him. He had made love to him! That was real! What he had felt then, his feelings... He was happy. He loved being with Saberu more than anything, that couldn't be fake. This had to be a lie. It was a sick and disgusting lie and Omi didn't understand why Saberu would want to hurt him so badly with such a cruel lie.
"No... I love you..." Omi whispered as he reached up to caress his face, but Saberu wouldn't allow him. He grabbed Omi's wrist, refusing to let Omi touch him.
"You don't."
"Stop it," Omi order firmly as he jerked his wrist back scornfully. "Why, Saberu, why do you want to hurt me so badly by saying such a lie?! Saying I don't love you?! How the hell could you say that?!" it was insulting. Saberu was throwing him away so easily, he was sure he was abandoning him. Just like that, after today, after they had been together.
"Because it's the truth," Saberu growled at him. "I wish it were real, I wish everything, everything you said over the pass few days was real!" Saberu shouted it so hysterically that it startled Omi. He gripped his head with both hands, looking so frustrated and ready to cry. "I couldn't get you off my mind! You drove me crazy! I wanted you! I never felt this way about anyone! I... Damn it," Saberu tried to calm himself down, his arms once again going limp at his sides. That's when Omi realized that this wasn't easy, it wasn't easy for Saberu at all. "I loved you. I wanted you to love me, I wanted you to love me even half as much as I loved you..."
"But I do," Omi still would not let it go. "I do love you, Saberu..."
"No..." Saberu stared into Omi's cerulean eyes. "You don't, Omi."
Omi felt something hit him as the words sank in, images...a dressing room, a crossbow, desperately wanting to kill, failing...and being held, tightly...by that man...by...Ken...
Omi's eyes over flowed with tears. More images came, slowly...here and there, bits and pieces. He looked at Saberu as he remembered, being taken by Walter and Toran against his will...and Ken's promise.
The picture came back, the pieces fell together again as Omi's heart broke.
"It's true..." he whispered. "It's all true," and he burst into sobs as he fell to the ground.
