Chapter 1
Secret untold.
***** Niko Yuki POV *****
“It’s just one of those days?” I mumble as I slowly slipped my shoe on and grab my book bag. “School, yuck, and the exam last year was a killer. They should give us a year of vacation,” I keep mumbling as I look in the mirror to fix my hair. My short shoulder length midnight blue hair falls in my eyes. I softly blow it out of my face.
“Only three more days until I’m 16. God, so close to being 18, it’s not even funny,” I sighed again, then smile hearing my mothers voice.
“Niko hon have you seen that necklace your father got me. I gave it to you to fix,” Miaka calls down the stairs. I look up lightly. Enjoying my quiet little life. Even if I had a jerk as a boyfriend at the moment. I calmly walk up the stairs humming quietly as I enter my room finding the fixed necklace and return out of the room.
“Got it mom,” I call to the family room. Taka walks into the hallway still half a sleep.
“Niko, why are you still here? Don’t you have school?” Taka asks with a yaw.
“Yea daddy I do. I’m just getting something for mom,” I said gently hugging him. Taka returns the hug. Thinking he may of never been able to have a family like this.
“Is your brother up yet?” Taka asked. I laugh.
“When does a 13 year old get up on time. He’s running late again,” I mumble and then walk into the family room. Miaka smiles as I hand her the necklace. “Well got to go mom,” I whisper hugging her and then go down stairs and grab hold of Tamahome junior’s ear pulling him out the door.
“I’m not going to be late because of you,” I . Tamahome jr. rolls his eyes.
“What wrong with you? You been acting weird?” Tamahome jr. grumbles as he eats his toast as we walk down the road. I roll my eyes.
“Nothing’s wrong. I just feel out of place, but it’s nothing,” I grumble as the 13 year old boy with brown messy hair shakes his head.
“Whatever. There’s the Rick?” Tamahome jr. mutters. I look up seeing my boyfriend. My smile fades slightly but then quickly lifts into a fake smile.
**** Ling Mikage POV****
“I just moved to Tokyo from Osaka, and today’s my first day of school.” I say to myself then I put my school uniform on and walk over to the bathroom to brush my teeth. “I hope I don’t become a loner…” I think to myself. Half an hour later I arrive at school. It’s a big school, three stories high, unlike my last one which was only one story and couldn’t even afford new Text books. The bell rings and I’m late.
“Damn it I’m late! It’s my first day too! What an impression…” I whisper as I run through the halls.
“Oh, turns out that’s the five minute bell… I’m so dense,” People stare at me as I take an empty seat.
“What? You never seen a new kid before?” I say out loud to everyone. They all look shocked. Then the teacher finally comes in and announces me to the class.
“We have a new student today everyone. Her name is Ling Mikage. Please stand up Mikage,” the teacher asks. My face is bright red, I’ve already made an ass of myself. Finally the stupid teacher tells me I can sit.
***** Niko POV ****
I skid a cross the hall. “Brother needed me to come with him to class,” I grumble as I ran down the hall way. “I can’t believe the ass left me there. Rick, your so dead,” I complained as I slowed my pace and then looked around the hall way.
A shiver ran down my spine. “Man I felt like I was being watched,” I whisper as I open my class room door.
“Ms. Yuki, you’re late again I see,” the teacher commented. I roll my eyes slightly so she won’t see.
“Sorry Mrs. Key,” I whisper sarcastically as I quickly moved to my seat. “I can’t help it that my little brother is sick, I have to make sure that he gets the right medicine,” I pointed out as I sat. I look around the room. My eyes have a bit of a fade to it. The teacher sighs and goes on with the lesson.
My eyes stop on the new kid. “A young girl, quiet, thinks she’s all that. She’s in big trouble if she thinks that she can take over the school,” I say to my self as I shifted my eyes. “Rick didn’t come to class I see,” I thought.
I shake as a feeling comes over me. “Unusual,” I think as the day goes on.
**after school**
I stand up getting all my books and head out of my last class. The same with Ling. I sighed as I walked down the hall. I jump as arms wrapped around me.
“Hmmm Niko, your hair always smells good. I bet the rest of you does too,” Rick said softly. I roll my eyes.
“Rick let go. I got to go get Tamahome,” I say. Rick moaned.
“I’m tired of waiting! I want to do what I want to do with you. Your damn brother can get home on his own,” Rick growled. I pushed away from him.
“I told you before, I’m not going that far with you! Not yet,” I mutter turning to look at him. He had darkness in his eyes and then he grabbed my arm.
“Hey don’t get bossy with me,” He said harshly, and pushed me against the lockers. Locking my lips in a deep kiss with his. I bite his lip and push him back.
“Rick stay away from me! It’s over!” I yell and turn to leave. Rick grabs me again and tries to pull me to him. Someone slams a book down, Rick automatically looks toward the noise causing him to lose grip. I quickly get out of his reach and do a round house kick to his side. Rick falls to the floor out cold. I slightly looked up to Ling.
***Normal POV***
Niko blinks as Ling lightly smiles. “Uh, thanks” Niko noted.
“No problem. I’m Ling by the way,” she says.
“Yeah, I know,” Niko says
“Oh… right,” Ling smiles. Niko looks sad. “Well, think of it this way. It’s best that you dumped that loser. If that hadn’t have happened right away you might have been together longer and it could’ve been even worse,” she noted.
“I guess you’re right. Anyway, I should be going, my brothers probably waiting for me. Besides, I don’t want to be around when he wakes up,” Niko ran off. Rick started to wake up, Ling notices and runs off too.
~* Night *~
Ling tosses around in her bed moaning. “No… What’s.. happening… It.. can’t be…” she says as she sleeps. The dream has taken over, she becomes silent. Her body lifts up from the bed and she begins to float, a blue aura surrounds her. The exact same light engulfs Niko. They scream in unison as they enter the dream. They feel as if they are falling, figments of diamonds revealing memories flow through the air, at the end, the light shines brighter then ever and there lay the symbol. The same symbol they’ve been seeing for as long as they can remember.
~* School the next morning *~
Niko lay asleep in her desk as Ling struggles to stay awake. The bell rings for lunch as the kids scatter out of there. Ling walks over to Niko to wake her up.
“Are you still upset over you and that guy?” Ling asks.
“Huh? Oh, no… It’s just that I couldn’t sleep because of this weird dream I had,” Niko answered.
“What was it about?” Ling asks.
“Well… I never told anyone about it, but I guess it couldn’t hurt this one time. In the dream I felt like I was falling and I kept seeing memories flying around me, then all of a sudden at the end there was this symbol surrounded by this blue light,” Niko explained.
“Are you serious! There’s no way! I have had that exact same dream since forever! Including last night,” Ling said excitedly.
“You’re kidding me, so have I. This is getting scary me, I gotta go,” Niko said, then went over to her friends.
“Damn, this is creepy…” Ling said softly.
**** Niko POV***
I winced lightly as looked around the room. “Why couldn’t I be one of those people that don’t dreams,” I mumble as I get my lunch and head over to my table. I made a face at my friends. “Have you ever got one of those days when everything just starts to freak you out?” I say quietly.
“Niko you’re always freaking out or yelling with that high tempter of yours,” Anna commented. I nodded.
“But this is even weirder,” I mumble and then smile.
“So birthday girl, what’s the big plan?” Cat asked. I looked at her thinking.
“I have no idea. Mom and dad want a family party after I hang with my friends. Hey I’m happy as long as I get my food. Mostly going for candy,” I said with a grin. My friends laughed.
“That’s our Niko” Anna said smiling.
**** Ling POV****
Ling sat at a table by herself. “Man… I haven’t made any friends really so far… It’s the second day and I barely have an acquaintance.” She breathes a heavy sigh and eats the rest of her lunch. “My mom said I can invite my new friends over for my birthday, but I don’t even have any! Maybe Niko? Dang, I hate my shyness!”
~* Lings Home *~
“Hey mom,” Ling greeted as she went up to her room.
“Oh Ling, did you invite your friends over for Thursday yet?” Aya, Lings mom said.
“Um… Well I uh… I forgot, sorry,” Ling said trying to cover up her lack of friends.
“Well, do you want them over or not? I’ve told you since the day you started this school,” her mother nagged.
“Mom! It takes time to make friends, okay! Just leave me alone!” she slammed the door and locked it.
“Ling Tsuya Mikage! Come out right now!”
“No!” she yelled as her tears stained her cheeks. “Mom… Why doesn’t anyone like me? *Sniffle*”
***** Niko POV****
I shifted as I carried the picture book that the new girl had dropped. “Well if I got the right address and not her old one she should be here,” I whisper looking up at the house I stop at. “Oooooo nice house” I say as I walked up the steps and ringed the door bell.
***** Normal POV***
The door open and Aya looked at Niko. Niko smiled gently. “Jeez I hope this is the right house. But is Ling here. She drop one of her books and I decide to be a friend and bring it here besides if I hold on to it I’d probably lose it in my messy room,” Niko said calmly.
Aya smiles. “Yes you got the right house. She’s up in her room. Maybe you can get her out. It’s the one to the left up stairs.” Aya said softly. Niko nodded and looked back at Tamahome. Jr.
“Hey bro I’m going to take this up to her. You be ok out here.” Niko called. Tamahome nods as he sat down in the grass. Being weak from his sickness he was just getting over with. Niko steps into the house and heads up the stairs to Ling’s room.
Niko stops at the door and lightly knocks on the door. “Hey Ling, it’s Niko from school. You dropped something when I ran into you at school. So if you open the door I can give it to you.” Niko says. She steps back slightly as the door opens and Ling looks at me shocked
Niko holds up the book. “Yours right. I didn’t look through it, just at the name and address,” Niko said with cheer in her voice. Ling read from the little bit of crying. She smiles slightly.
“Thanks,” she whispers. Niko nods.
“Hey what are friends for,” Niko said with a cute smile.
“Um, wait. Thursday’s my birthday, you want to hang out then? You don’t have to get me anything,” Ling suggests.
“This Thursday?” Niko asks for reassurance.
“Yeah,” Ling answers.
“But that’s my birthday! You sure you’re not pulling my leg?” Niko asks hesitantly.
“What?! That’s so cool!” Ling exclaims.
“Hey, since you just moved here and don’t know very many people, I think we should have a party together or something, so you can get to know people,” Niko suggested.
“Really?! Oh thanks!” Ling said happily, you can tell that she was crying before.
“See you later!” Niko says as she leaves Ling’s house and picks up Tamahome.
Aya sees Ling with a smile planted on her face.
***Ling POV***
“So, what’s up with that? Ms. I don’t have any friends?” my mother teased.
“Whatever. Anyway Niko says she wants us to have a party together so I can meet people. She’s nicer then I thought,” Ling says.
“That’s good, especially when I don’t have to plan it.” My mother implies.
“You’re so lazy. What’s for dinner?”
“You’re always thinking about food! Why don’t you get fat?” Toya says as he walks in the door.
“Dad! You’re so mean!” Ling gives him an evil look.
“It’s true. Since you’ve been born our food bills have doubled!” Toya teases.
“Hey, quit it! Let me eat in peace!” Ling blushed and Toya laughed.
“You wouldn’t be as fun to tease if you just ignored me,” Her father smiled.
~* Thursday Party fun *~ ***Normal POV***
Everyone gathers at Niko’s house, loud music plays and everyone’s happy.
“Present time!” Miaka yells. “And after that some cake! Baked by yours truly!” Everyone groans and they distribute the gifts. Ling opens her first gift, it’s black and red plaid pants and a black zipper top.
“Wow! These are cool! Who’s it from?” Ling asks.
“Me!” her mom replies. “I know what you like.”
“Thanks,” Ling says.
“My turn!” Niko opens her first gift. It’s a black shirt with a blue dragon on it and it has the characters for love of the midnight sun. (A/n Why does it say that you ask? Because I thought it sounded cool.) and blue jeans.
“These are awesome! Thanks!” Niko says. Five minutes have past and there was only one present left addressed to both of them.
“Hmm… Who’s this from? I thought we opened everyone’s,” Ling ponders.
“Well, let’s just open it and find out,” Niko suggests. They unwrap the paper and see a dead hand. The bright blue light they’ve been seeing in there dreams surrounded them as they screamed in pain.
“Release me!” They heard an anonymous voice calling from within them. Floating in the air they grasps their arms around their stomachs as their clothes shred to pieces. The people around them watch in amazement, that until the light spreads across the yard. Everyone falls unconscious, trees collapse barely missing the girls. A black car rides up, men with masks on their faces and black suits grab the two floating girls and throw them in the car. The light fades and the girls wake up.
“What happened?” Niko says faintly. Ling lay fast asleep leaning on Niko. She nudges her to wake.
“Huh…?” Ling squints and sits up. “W-where are we going?” she asks. The car turns sharply.
“Who are you people!” Niko yells.
“Don’t worry. We’re here to help you,” the driver says.
“Where are our parents! They would never let strangers take us away! Especially on our birthdays!” Ling exclaims.
“They are fine, just stay calm and you wont get hurt,” the man in the front seat says. Tears stream down Lings face.
“What are we going to do, Niko?” Ling whispers to her.
“I don’t know…” Niko replies. “Wait, the lights turning red. When we stop, get out as fast as you can,” Niko says quietly. Ling nods her head. Niko opens the door and they both get out before the man next to him could grab them. Panicking they run towards the library heading to a back door. They lock it quickly and catch their breath.
“Who the hell were those people?” Ling says between breaths.
“I’m not sure, but they look professional. Those stupid masks blocked their faces!” Niko complained. “What are you doing?”
“Looking at some books. I want to preoccupy myself before I start panicking,” Ling lifts a book from the shelf. “The Universe of the Four Gods/ Children of the Four Gods? Hmm…” she flips through it. “Looks good.”
“It looks like this is the restricted area of the library, but I don’t think anyone saw us go in. That book any good?” Niko leans over and starts reading. Ling flips the page. “Hey, I wasn’t done!” Niko says. Suddenly they hear pounding from the other side of the door.
“Hey! Who’s in there!” a man yelled. The girls gasp. Ling continues to turn the page. Light escapes from the book and suddenly they find themselves within a new world.
Chapter 2
The Book of the Four Gods Open Once Again
**** Niko POV****
I shift as I open my eyes and look around finding that I was somewhere completely different then the library. I look at Ling. “Uh…..?” I gasp.
“How’d we get outside?” Ling whispers.
“Ummmmm….” I add to her sentience. I look around again.
“I don’t think we’re in Tokyo anymore,” I say slightly turning my head to the side. “Oh I’m confused!” I mutter.
“It’s a whole new world. All we did was open a book with a weird title,” Ling says softly. I blink as I calmly sit down. “Ok, when did books open up to new worlds!” Ling grumbles and I sigh resting my head on my knees. Ling sits down next to me.
“This, this reminds me of a story my mom used to tell me when I was little. It was about a girl and she got sucked into this one book at a library, like us. The emperor asks her to be the princess of Suzaku or something like that, I don’t really remember. But now that I think about it, the title seems familiar,” I explain as I looked at the trees around me. Ling tries to say something but stops when suddenly they hear a person screaming in pain. I stand up quickly and take off after the noise. Ling quickly follows behind me. We finally get to the source of the screams and see a boy about our age laying on the ground. Blood gushed from his stomach as he helplessly tried to get up. You could see a man running away, and a sword laying besides the dying boy. Ling runs over to him and takes her shirt off (A/n: It’s not like that you perverts! She’s wearing a bra!) to block anymore blood from coming out of him. You could tell that Ling’s the emotional type, tears are flooding down her face already. Although I’m getting pretty teary eyed myself…
“Niko! What do we do! Should we try to find his home?!” she says panicking. “We need some herbs or something!” she cries.
“I don’t think we should move him, there’s too much of a chance that we could open the wound more,” I say trying to be brave.
“Take… me… home…” the boy says faintly.
“Okay, but… Where is your house?” Ling asks. The boy points through the forest.
“Ergh…” I groan. “This is going to be hard.” We pick him up and begin traveling through the dark and eerie forest.
~* Ling’s POV *~
Fifteen minutes later, which seemed like a century, we arrive at a small town. People are staring at us, I wonder why? The boy’s still alive, thank god, but he’s not conscious. His stomach is pressed up against my back, therefore I can feel him breathing. Breaking my train of thought, a woman crying hysterically runs madly towards us.
“My baby!” she cried. Apparently her ‘baby’ is the teenage boy I’m carrying. Good thing he’s unconscious, otherwise I’d think he’d be quite embarrassed. Finally a shop keeper came over to us and took the dude off my back. He was so heavy! We get to this funny cottage thing and they set him on a bed. A bunch of little kids surround the bed when the doctor comes in.
“Okay, what we need to do is…. Blah blah blah… Blah blah blah herbs blah medicine.” Was the only thing I heard from the doctor as I space off just staring at the boy. Breaking my trance a little girl comes up to Niko and I.
“Who are you? Are you the ones who found my brother?” the chibi girl says.
“Yeah, I’m Niko, and this is my friend Ling,” she replies.
“Thank you! Please stay with us for the night! I’m Keiko,” Keiko insists.
