Review:

-The setting is feudal Japan, amidst a plague emerges a lone-ninja warrior. A young woman ninja named Kagero is the lone-survivor of an ambush by one of eight "Devils Of Kimon". A group of ninja led by "The Shogun Of The Dark". A man named Jubei Kibagami is hired by Dakuan, a government spy plotting to halt the motives of the Shogun Of The Dark. Soon Jubei discovers that he is not alone in his path of destroying Gemma, the evil lord of the eight of Kimon. A visually superb action-packed blood bath of intrigue, danger and deception! Ninja Scroll is a tale which combines the mysticism of the far east, with a huge dosage of anime action.

Ninja Scroll is a great anime film to own on dvd, for newcomers or anyone who is a fan of the hit VHS release. Winner of the annual "Yubari Film Festival" in Japan, and a huge favorite amongst ninja film fans; Ninja Scroll is a huge treat for anime fans everywhere. Great characters, storyline and breath-taking visuals make it a feast for the senses on DVD.

The DVD contains a fantastic English 5.1 Dolby Digital surround sound audio, with crisp sound effects and audio track; making each sword slash sound realistic. Soundtrack is sweet sounding as usual on the Manga DVD releases. The video for the most part is excellent. The colors are vibrant, the animation even more dynamic on DVD and the cel-movement incredibly solid. I noticed slight video distortion durring occasional scenes and some minor pixellation on edges of image (Maybee it's just my T.V.). But there is really nothing to complain about on this disc. The menu looks great with original arwork and some rather fancy character-profile menus and extras (Courtesy of Manga Entertainment of course). Note: There is also a complete movie synopsis and the original theatrical trailer.

Chapter selection menu is also very nice, though I noticed a slight problem while accessing the final chapter menu. It takes more than twice as long than accessing the previous chapter menu screens, this is just a small complaint however. Unfortunately, Manga didn't do such a good job on the Japanese track, which I felt was sort of neglected in comparison to the highly superior English language track. However, this does not distract from this awesome anime film; which should be seen on this format at least once. Give it a try, you may like what you find.
