Episode 9: Holders of Fate and Understanding

Alana sat silently at the bamboo table, looking at the gem.

Mimicmon said that it gives the holder the ability to be reborn again…but, what if…what if it also gives me the power to bring someone back from the dead…? What then?
Horkamon glanced over at her DigiDestened, and frowned. “What’s wrong? Is it that rock?”
Alana blinked, and snapped out of her trance. “Yea. I guess it is…”
“What about it? What’s bugging you about it?” the purple-blue dragon Digimon asked softly.
“Mimicmon said I could be reborn, but what about other DigiDestened?”
“You mean Sean right?”
Alana nodded.
Horkamon sighed, then turned to Mimicmon. “How many times can that rock be used?”
The monkey-like Digimon shrugged. “Dunno. But, I’m sure it’s more then once.”
Horkamon nodded. “Do you have any idea how to use it?”
Mimicmon frowned. “Not really…but there is something that might help you. Come with me,” he got up, and walked out of the room. Alana and Horkamon followed.

Felina looked at Matt. “Now what? Why are we here?”

Matt shrugged. “I have no idea…but, my guess is that someone else besides Alana is doing this…”
“You’re right,” a voice said. The two turned and saw a boy and a Digimon standing nearby. “Alana has not the power to do this.”
“Who are you?” Felina asked.
The Digimon smirked, but introduced itself. “I am known as Shukumeimon. In English, it means destiny, or fate.”
“Yes, and I am Kurt, holder of the Crest of Fate. I am the one who brought you here,” the boy smiled. “Felina, you and Matt are destined to be together.”
Felina and Matt looked at each other, then cracked up.
“Me and him? We’re only friends!”
Matt grinned, but on the inside, he felt torn that Felina only saw him as a friend.
Kurt sighed. “If you say so…but, fate doesn’t lie. You will become more later on. Follow me. Felina, you will find yourself in the middle of a forest after you wake up. Don’t move from the spot you land on. My friend, Derin, will be with you shortly.”
As said, when Felina woke up with a start, she was in the middle of a forest, Keekomon was next to her, asleep.

Alana and Horkamon followed Mimicmon down a dark passageway.

Alana was silent, though that wasn’t uncommon, it made Horkamon feel slightly uneasy.
Mimicmon was looking at the side of the pass, at what Horkamon could only guess were doors. Suddenly, the monkey stopped.
“This one,” he said, then opened a heavy wood door. He walked inside, and the two followed.
When they entered the room, Mimicmon lit a candle.
“This is where all the information that we have ever come across is stored. You should be able to find something here. I must get back to the Dittomon, else they’ll start to worry.”
Alana didn’t respond, but Horkamon nodded. “Thank you for your help.”
The monkey smiled, then turned and left.
“Alrighty…let’s get started…” Horkamon said, clapping her hands together. “We’re looking for something on those sacred gems…”
Alana walked over to the darkest part of the library, and began to look through documents.
Horkamon sighed, and went to the opposite side of the room, and began to look through those documents.

It’s well known that Alana is slowly turning to our side…One thought.

Our side? You mean the darkness…she has no will of her own…she’s already dead…Said the second.
Dead? Already? The third asked.
Yes…and now…now that she has no will of her own…we can finally see into her soul…said the fourth.
I see what the plan is now…but how will this make us exist…? The third said.
The black screen turned to color in a single second. Four shadows sat at a table. Each wore a cloak, and each cloak was clasped with a Crest.
The first, on the far left, was obviously a male. His crest was ice blue, and had a triangle with a circle in the center of it, with what looked like light coming out from behind it.
“Fate,” he said, lifting his head. Under the hood, two eyes glowed the same color as his Crest. He had a pair of goggles on his head that one could barley see.
The second was a girl. Her Crest was ice green, and had a circle with a line going through it, and light exploding on the front of it.
“Righteousness,” she said, also lifting her head. Her eyes glowed the same ice-green as her Crest, but she wore no goggles, showing she was not the leader.
The third was also a female. This girls Crest was ice pink. Her Crest symbol was a circle with three triangles coming out from it. Inside of the circle was what looked like half a heart.
“Hardship,” she lifted her head as well, her eyes glowing the same pink as her Crest. Black strands of hair drifted down her neck to rest on her shoulders.
The fourth and final figure was male. His Crest was ice purple, and had a swoosh upward (lying on its side) and a swoosh down, though shorter then the first, and had a leaf shape coming from the dip between the two, and a triangle just below it. On the other side was a small swoosh, going the same way as the first two.
"Understanding," He lifted his head, showing his eyes glowing ice purple. The hair that was visible was a long blond bang that came down in front of his face.
“This council of the Destiny DigiDestened comes to order,” the first said.
“Kurt, why did you link the two children together in the dream-world?!” yelled the girl with the ice green Crest.
“They are meant to be,” he answered.
“That does not matter!” she yelled back. “We have sworn not to interfere with the affairs of the children that are chosen!”
“She is right!” the second male growled. “I am not your…pick up boy! I have no intention of retrieving that girl!”
“Calm yourself, Derin,” the first said.
“Why should I?! I should not have to do this! It has been forbidden!”
“You know why. Because if we don’t interfere, we could be stuck in the time laps for another million years!”
“What do you mean?” the green Crested girl asked.
“You remember the one, Rika? She was the only human that found out about us, and that caused time to go in a circle here in this world! She and her group will show up again, after the next group.”
“How?” asked Derin.
The girl with black hair looked up, and said, “Kari…the girl of Light will grow up and become a teacher…but…then Takato and the others will come back, and be the first to come here. Then Kari will die, and be reborn, as will the rest. Then they will have no memories of being here, and they will come here.”
“This is hopeless.” Said the first girl. “You as the king, know that. With out your wife, this world will be dead in a matter of time.”
The first bowed his head. “Yes, I know. Fate has failed me for now. I just hope she doesn’t find out what really happened to her mother…”

“Alana! I found it! I found what we’ve been looking for!” Horkamon yelled as she looked at a small dust-covered book.

The blond walked over to her friend, and looked over her down at the book.
“Look, it says here, ‘There are seven stones, one each a different color, and each in its own land,’ hm…wonder what that means…Any way, then it says, ‘One is the color of death, blood. The second the color of life, green. The third, the color of memories, blue. Fourth, the color of present, gold. The fifth, is the color of time, purple. Number six is the color of destiny, jade. Seven will be shown as the color of eternity, lilac. And eight…’” Horkamon stopped reading. She turned the page. “Great. Just dandy. As in all stories, the next page is gone! Well, that helps a whole lot.”
“As expected…” Alana sighed. “But, that doesn’t help us…”
Horkamon sighed. “Yea…I know…but it’s a start.”
Alana nodded.

Felina sat in the mist, waiting. Keekomon was now awake, and was looking around.

“We’re in the Forests of Mist…” she sighed. “But, how’d we get here?”
“That dream…Fate…”
“What?” Keekomon asked, turning to look at Felina. The blue hared girl was holding her head in her hands.
“That boy…he said his name was Kurt…”
“Boy?”
“Yes...the one with the Shukumeimon.”
“Shukumeimon?!” Keekomon yelled.
“What?”
“Shukumeimon is a myth! He’s never been seen before!”
“What else do you know about him?” a voice asked, and a boy appeared. He was dressed in a white shirt, and baggy blue jeans. On his head, he wore a blue hat. “Hi, my name’s Drain.”
A large wolf-like Digimon walked up behind him. “And I’m Wakarumon. It means ‘to understand’ or ‘understand’.”
“Yea. You met with Kurt in that dream, right?”
Felina nodded. “Yea…but, how are we..?”
“Kurt told me to take you back to your group.”
“Ah. Ok.” Felina stood up, and dusted herself off.
Keekomon growled. “Listen, bub, I have NO idea who you are. And, if you say you’ve been her for years, then try how long we’ve been here!”
The boy shrugged. “Nine years.”
Keekomon blinked, stunned. “How…how…”
“Don’t worry about it, Keeko. This guy’s a friend. If we can’t trust him, how do we get back?”
Keekomon sighed. “I guess you’re right…” But, all the same, she frowned. How does this human know how long we’ve been here?
Drain looked at the small pink In-Training Digimon. Her eyes were narrowed, and she was looking at him as though she were trying to figure it out…

Kyle blinked, and opened his eyes. Something…he heard something…a voice of gold.

Or was it?
Kyle sat up, and rubbed the grit from his eyes.
The singing continued, and Kyle stood up. He began to walk into the forest. As he neared a stream, the voice seemed to pull him onward.
He walked down the banks and along the river until he reached a large glass like lake.
His eyes scanned the shores, and then he saw her; hair of raven black, blowing upon the breeze. She turned and looked over her shoulder, but not at him. Her eyes were of dark aqua, and seemed to pierce his soul.
A Digimon stood beside her, only about three feet tall. It looked like a mountain lion, only she was silver, and had a black stripe going around her neck and down her back. Her paws were black as well, and her tail had a small gold ring around the end, with markings on it. On her shoulder blades, two short stubs grew outward.
Kyle could vaguely recognize the Digimon as Kon’nanmon, a Digimon that the group had run into a long while ago, and had become friends with. This Kon’nanmon, however, looked more tame then the last, and was humming along with the girl.
Kyle was silent as a shadow as he walked toward her. Not a single grain of sand crunched under his feet, nor did a single twig snap.
The girl stopped singing, and stood as though stone in the gentle breeze.
She did not turn, nor did she make any movement when she spoke.
“I guess I’m not the only person in this world,” her voice was gentle, and had a strange feeling of cool winter nights and warm spring days upon it.
Kyle stopped dead.
“I know you’re there, please talk with me. I’m so alone,” she closed her eyes.
“I have no idea who you are,” Kyle replied.
“I’m not blind, nor am I deft.”
“I never said you were,” Kyle said.
“I know, but you were thinking it, were you not?”
Kyle stopped breathing. This girl, who ever she was, had been able to read him like a book. How did she…?
“I will tell you later. I am known as Nansui,” she turned and looked at him, her dark aqua eyes looking directly into his. Moonlight outlined her soft white skin.
She was dressed in a kimono. The bottom of it was a lake, light blue and silver, with cloud white cranes around it drinking and watching. Each detail was done in silver. As Kyles eyes moved upward, he watched the scene get darker and little gold fireflies danced about, then came the black sky and the silver stars. Her obi was a light blue with tiny gold stars done about.
“Soft water…” Kyle murmured her name when translated to English. “My name is…” he stopped abruptly.
Her eyes continued to be gentle, but she said his name as though she’d always known it. “Kyle. Kyle Chapa.”
“How…?” he asked, slightly uncomfortable with her knowing it.
“I know more then you shall ever know. Don’t feel that way, else Alana will be upset with you,” she added.
Kyle blinked. “Okayyy…”
“Are you a DigiDestened also? I hope so…for if you aren’t, then for once, I am wrong.”
“Yea. I am.”
“And, your Crest?”
“I thought you knew more then I did,” Kyle said in a slightly rude tone.
“Ah, I see. You have much anger in you. Much rock and wood. You don’t wish for others to see who you truly are.”
Kyle growled.
“But, you also hold a lot of fear. What are you so afraid of? I am only a few years ahead of you. You need not fear me.”
“Ok, cut the Japanese fortune-telling crap. This is the twenty-first century, not the nineteenth.”
The girl grinned. “It’s true, and you know it.”
“How do you know all this stuff about me?” Kyle growled.
The girl smirked. “You could call it a gift…”
Kyle narrowed his eyes.
“…or you could call it a curse.”
“Kyle!” Anthylamon yelled as she exploded into the scene. “Who’s that?” she growled, glaring at the girl and at Kon’nanmon.
“It’s…just some person. let’s get back to camp,” Kyle said, then turned to walk away.
“It’s Belief. Your Crest.”
Kyle stopped.
Anthylamon growled, her fur stood on end.
“Calm yourself, kitten,” Kon’nanmon said, looking at the purple cat-like Digimon with her ice like eyes.
“Kitten?! I’ll show you kitten! CLAW SPIN!” Anthylamon spun around and shot her claws out at the Digimon.
Kon’nanmon sat, calm as ever letting the attack hit her. When the smoke cleared, she was unharmed. A shimmer in the night air told of a shield of some kind.
“I told you, kitten, to calm down.”
Anthylamon growled.
“So, what do you want?” Kyle asked, turning to face the girl.
“I am merely here to be with other humans. Please, let me stay. I see your friend will be returning with in a days time,” Nansui said.
“Who? Alana?”
“The one you call Felina.”
“What? How can she be coming back, if she’s in a dungeon cell?!”
“I see another with her. A boy.”
“Oh brother…I think we’re really over our heads this time…” Kyle murmured.
