“Then she wrote as an epilogue; ‘That was when she became so cold toward the other people in our group. She had buried her computer with him, and told him that now he would be able to return home. It was probably the saddest day of all our lives, seeing the way that his death had changed her, and the way that it effected us.’” Val finished.
The group was silent for a long time.
“She told it to you like that?” Jessica asked in shock looking at Matt.
Matt nodded. “Yea.”
“So, that’s where she is…” Kari said. “She’s paying her respects to that boy.”
Val nodded grimly. “Yup. She goes back every year on our rounds. She’s a day late this time though.”
“Because you ran into us and those other Digimon?” T.K. asked.
Val nodded.
Izzy closed his eyes, and seemed to be thinking. “So, she buried her laptop and told him he could go home,” he opened them. “That was extremely noble.”
“No, not noble. It was something she had to do,” Kyle said.
All the Digimon were still silent.
“I’m going to look for her,” Horkamon said at last. “I know she’s usually there all night, but she needs someone to be with her right now. And, no Kyle, you can’t come. It may just make things worse.”
“But, you’re our ticket to staying here, aren’t you?” Joe asked.
Horkamon shook her bladed head. “No, now that the Bladeramon know your not harmful, they’ll let you stay.”
Shantamon glanced at Jessica, but said nothing. He knew that they were only there to spy, but he and she could get rid of them for their master.
Jessica gave off a shallow shake of her head. One that no one seemed to notice.
Horkamon sighed. “I hope to be back soon. Do as the Bladeramon ask, and everything will work out fine.” She walked over to the Bladeramon guard, and stated what she was doing, and that the others wouldn’t be any trouble.
The Digimon said something, but no one else heard it because it was directed at Horkamon. She then opened the gates for the Rookie.
Horkamon ran out, without a look back at the group.
Alana lay at the grave, not even aware that it was already night. She was still imagining Sean and Mimicmon beside her.
She blinked, and a lone tear rolled down her face and landed on the dirt of the grave.
Why does it hurt so much? And why couldn’t I have healed him? I have the power, don’t I? Was I just too stupid to do it? And now, he’s dead. I had a chance to save him, and he’s dead…I thought I had the power…maybe I don’t…
The sound of underbrush crunching didn’t make Alana realize she was being watched. Suddenly, Horkamon entered the clearing.
“Alana?” she asked, her voice low.
Alana didn’t hear Horkamon.
Horkamon edged closer. “Alana? Please talk to me…”
“Sean…I miss you…” Alana whispered, not even acknowledging that Horkamon was near her.
“Alana, let the past be…” Horkamon said walking up to her friends side.
Alana didn’t answer. She just curled into a ball, and closed her eyes.
Why won’t she let his memory go? She misses him, just like the rest of us…but she won’t forgive herself for something that happened almost five years ago…she didn’t even kill him…Tigeriamon did. But, still…
“Horkamon,” Alana said suddenly.
“Huh?”
“I have the power to heal, don’t I?”
Horkamon had a saddened look on her face. “Yes, Alana. You do.”
“Then why couldn’t I heal him?”
The question struck Horkamon off guard. Her eyes widened slightly as she asked herself, Is that why she won’t forgive herself?! Just because she wasn’t able to heal him?! “Is…that why you’re still so sad?” Horkamon asked.
Alana nodded. “Yes,” a tear slid down her face. “That’s what the last part of my Crest means, isn’t it? Healing?”
Horkamon lowered her head, then nodded. “Yes, it is.”
“Then why? Why couldn’t I heal him?”
“I don’t know…maybe he was already healed.”
“What do you mean?” Alana questioned.
Horkamon placed a hand on her friends shoulder. “Maybe he wanted to die, so he could go home at last.”
Alana was silent for a moment, then said, “Is that where we go? After we die here?”
“If you’re a Digimon, you get reborn in Primary Village. But, I don’t know what happens if you’re a human. Is there a place on Earth that humans get reborn? Like a village?”
Alana shook her head, and smiled slightly. Then she said, “Horkamon, can we go there? Just the two of us? I want to see Mimicmon again…”
“Alana, it’s been almost five years. He won’t be there anymore.”
“But, maybe Electmon knows where he is…”
Horkamon closed her eyes, then nodded as a silver tear slid down her face. “It would be nice to see him again…” she opened her eyes. They were glazed over with tears, and the pale moon was reflected in them.
The scene faded into black as silver moon light danced around the shadows of the trees.
A lone sad tune played upon the breeze, reliving that afternoon...
