> Layout-Colors-Fonts
When making a website you must keep in mind what you like about others websites.
For Example:
Do you like those long scrolling pages? If you don't than obviously no one else will. You have to do something you like and make your site comfortable for others, specially if is a page where there is something to read, "Don't put a wallpaper where there's something to read!" Because this will clash with the letters. Have a solid color for the background. Another thing is to use harmonious colors that appeal to ones eyes and not those colors that want to make you scream. Is okay is your whole site is in one color, this makes the site more comfortable to the visitor, why? Because people like consistency.. trust me, they do. About the fonts use fonts that are readable, and that would want to make you read. I recommend "Garamond", this font looks very nice in a page where there is an article.
> Image Graphics- Loading Time
Another thing to keep in mind when making a webpage don't load it with too many graphics, because it will slow it down! Don't use flash because it will have the same effect. Your main layouts should have images not gifs, and if you do have images, please make sure they are optimized. Optimizing an image makes it download faster.
Example:
Not optimized: -downloading time: 3 sec
Optimized: -downloading time: 1 sec
See the difference? Optimizing an image makes it lighter because it reduces its colors. Don't worry you won't notice the color reduction, all my graphics are optimized and they look good.
> Communication with Visitors
Also to keep in mind is that your website is mostly made for the public so there for you should be nice to the public.
Example:
Take it this way: Your site is your store and visitors are your costumers, and costumers should be treated nice.. Other wise you loose your business. So all I'm saying is to be your best, and try to update as often as possible. I know that sucks, but if you have nothing in your site, people just won't come in. You need to have a good service for your visitors and they will return to you with gratitude.
> Getting in Touch with Visitors
Oh yeah I almost forgot! You need to identify your self with your visitors.
Example:
I have a character all over my site, her name is Maron and she represents me, so where ever you see her, you immediately think of ymooncrystal or web mistress, isn't that right? Well you should do something like that to your site, and let your visitors know you a little better, just show them who you really are, and represent your self every time you can, in best way you know how. I'm not saying you need to pick a character and post it all over your site as you, but you need to get your self a little icon that people may identify as you.
> Be Honest
Please always be honest with your visitors! Don't lie about who you are, your information, where you got your stuff from, etc.. People like honesty. So you are warned.
> Frames in layouts
Okay I forgot this one. Well anyways if you are going to have frames in a page try not to have frames all over the place with scroll bars all over the place. What do I mean? Well you know those pages that when you go they have more than 2 or 3 frames, and they all have vertical and horizontal scroll bars, and you even have to scroll to view the title? Well those are they kind of pages that you don't want to have. If you are going to have frames in your site, 2 or 3 are okay, but make sure that all the contents fit exactly in two of the frames and only one of them scrolls, also the scrolling frames should scroll vertically and not to all sides, this makes people impatient because they can't read the contents to the page inside the page right. So please if you have such a site correct your self, because people don't like this kinds of pages.
> Make sure all Links work
Okay this one is very very important. When you go to a site you don't like to see broken links all over the place, if you still don't have your links ready, than please leave a text in its place so people realize this. You must check all of your links, one by one, Yes! one by one, other wise you won't know if there is a link broken. You must check your work and make sure all your images are viewable and not a bunch of red x on a your page.
> Do your Best
My advise it to do the best you can, and most of all to be your self, be original and inventive. Your efforts won't be in vain. And oh yeah! Don't let anything get you down, because you know deep inside you are the best. Keep the spirit up!
