"Can we put this behind?" she asked, sniffling...
"I'll not press charges..." he said quietly... "and I still want to be
with you..." he couldn't believe what he was telling her, and indeed
himself...  "But the latter on one condition..."
"Anything..."
"I can still love Jez..."
Silence cut over again...  The tone of the grunge music sinking
them further into misery... it seemed no-one could think of anything to
say... Grey had his arms folded, and rubbed his fingers through his fur
nervously, as he watched Jiffys expression change from shock to fear to
anger to surrender...
Still nothing was said... the racoon was visibly unnerved by what
he had been caught up in... the white fox who Grey didn't recognise
looked very anxious...
It was hardly convienient... but Jez walked up nervously...
"What..?" he asked weakly... no-one replied...
Jiffy could hardly be rushed to reply... but she seemed to have
given in to despair... eventually as minutes dragged into an eternity of
tense fear and grim expectation... her expression changed to sadness and
she sighed...  No-one could expect what she was going to say... her
instincts were giving her the thrashing of a lifetime... she was jealous,
lustful and protective all at once... he was her mate... but she hated
Jez... from a very deep level... yet she knew Grey could hardly choose
between them... but was that important?
"I..." she croaked, beginning to cry, "I can't share you with
HIM!!!" she shouted tearfully, pointing angrily at the ferret... "I WANT
TO KILL HIM!!!" she snarled loudly as she cried loudly... the attention
of half the club was on them... she fell to her knees and began to sob...
She was soaked with emotion... probably waiting for an excuse to
lash out at something... instead, she sprinted headlong across the dance
floor and out of the door...
As soon as she left, people began to notice how heavily the
squirrel was crying... but no-one knew what to say or do...  Jez stepped
towards him but he snapped,
"Fuck off!  Leave me alone!" and sank his head into his arms...
The fox walked out quietly as Jez watched the stricken creature
cry...  Eventually Grey said something... if only it wasn't:
"I only wish it would rain..." he then picked himself up and walked out
of the door, waving away Jez...
"Perhaps it'll rain..."

Outside... two lovers wandered, though they wandered seperate
ways through the 'dead-zone'... and at different paces... they had
similar agonies at heart... and as the rain began to fall... both were
equally comforted.

Jez slowly tried to drown his shock and horror in lager... he
wasn't really sure if it was working... sighing, he called for another
drink... and began another round of 'wishing'.
The fox he had seen earlier seemed to suddenly appear next to
him...  he sighed,
"Hello," he said vaguely.
"I've walked around for two hours... I haven't seen either..."
"If ye did, what would ye say?"
"I have no idea."
Jez looked over the fox, who looked about eighteen physically,
which was the human equivalent of twenty in human terms, but was he
definitely beyond that...
"So... who are ye..?  And where dae yee come into all this?"
"My name's Rafa, I agreed to be considered an 'expert' in this matter."
Jez perked up suddenly, as his drunken mind realised who he was
talking to...
"Wha', nay shit?  You're the lover of the famous Chris?"
"Same one..." the fox nodded, and called for the bartender...
"Bloody hell... he must be a good catch..."
"She, actually, these days..." Rafa replied casually, "...I'll not even
try to explain..."
"Hmmm... bloody hell... had young-un's then..?"
"No... it wasn't even planned... let's just say it was an accident, 'k?"
"Errrr... aahha... bloody hell."
"Look, it was an accident with a morphing virus, alright?  We wanted to
move to somewhere in North America, but Chris realised that some people
here might want him dead... it was supposed to turn him to a red squirrel
but it went all skew-iffy."
"Ah... ... ... ahem... bloooody hell."

Perhaps it was fate... but both were very surprised when the
soggy and tearful came across each other in the rainy, dark, in the
middle of a street in the middle of the dead zone...
"Hi Jiff'," Grey said quietly...
She replied by suddenly pouncing on him... almost knockng him to
the ground, but catching him in a loving hug... as he breathed rapidly in
surprise, she said nothing, did nothing... just held him tightly...  The
heavy rain ran down them in small streams...
Eventually she spoke... he listened intently to every word, every
tone...
"Grey... I can't share you... I just can't share you... unless you let
him go... someone is going to get hurt again..."  He though his reply
very carefully... and he knew at last what was at stake...
If he pushed her away she might hurt him again... but more than
that... he WOULD break her in two... he was her mate, her deeply bonded
parter, and by leaving her... he'd effectively be ramming a steak into
her heart...
He loved Jez... but he loved her too... and as hard as it was...
he could at last see the right thing to do...
"Fuck him...." he sighed at last, and slid his arms around her.
"...Thankyou," she said tearfully, "love."
Through the cold rain he felt warm tears of silent joy, which
rolled down her muzzle onto his face... and he happily let himself be
owned by one he loved.

"Sooo..." the fox ventured, "you're gay right?"
"Aye..." Jez replied drunkenly,
"Opposed to one night stands?" Rafa grinned.  Jez barely realised that
his drunken self was being taken advantage of...
"Errrr... no..."
"You see... since Chris became a female... he knows that I have needs...
as a gay..." Jez nodden acknowledgingly... "he doesn't mind me having my
fun now and again... whilst he's in his present condition..."
"Aye, aye..."
"So where do you live?"

Morning... the sun hit Greys weary eyes as he woke gently with
the sun...  He felt Jiffys muzzle kiss him under the chin...  He realised
slowly that they were wet, and waking up huddled on an overgrown road,
surrounded by decaying houses...
"Good morning my love..." she sighed...
"Good morning..." he replied quietly into her ear.
"You stayed with me..." she said warmly, "and I love you..."
"I'm yours Jiff'..." he said painfully, "not his... he just loves me..."
"I love you more... I need you more than he ever could..."

Jez woke up slowly, with a splitting headache... as he moaned and
cursed he realised that there was a heavy weight on top of him...
Opening his eyes he blinked away the dazzling light to make out the for
of a sleeping fox... one with a satidfied look that could explain only
one thing about the unremembered night...
He sighed and realised he was too tight in the fox's grasp even
for a ferret to worm out... the fox was hugging him with all limbs from
above, adding his weight to the pin...
Groaning, he shook the fox gently, and then again, more firmly
this time... getting a faint response... the fox was very tired...
"Awww... piss."
