Part 7:
“Dreamscape”
Stretching,
Mena turned to pull the covers to her bed down. A quick glance at her roommate
told her she was sleeping. Mena was a bit thankful for that, for she needed to
be alone with her thoughts. She had a burning sensation in her heart that would
not go away since leaving the club and Lance. ~Lance…~ She thought almost
dreamily. She crawled under the covers and placed her head on the pillow. Sleep
would invite her and she accepted its invitation in hopes that some explanation
would come to her in a dream. Her last lucid thought was one of Lance as she
danced with him on the dance floor that night. The song was so peaceful and so
wonderfully fitting. He held her close, not like a stranger he had picked up but
as a woman he had known for some time. Maybe even all his life. She wanted to
tell him she felt the same way but her mouth would not form the words to her
tongue. She was more than afraid to address the subject. However, she had never
felt such magic in another’s presence before.
She had
loved him… a long time ago. She knew this, deep within the recesses of her soul,
but yet the reasons were still unknown to her. Those eyes were still as blue as
they had been so long ago, back when their world was so much simpler but yet it
was like they never left her. She would never forget that feeling, or those
eyes. She often wondered if it was just an image of her past that she should
forget, but that never happened. For the next sixteen years, she was haunted by
the child she had brought back to life with her hand. Not that she remembered
the actual act of doing this; it was more like a dream, an image that just
floated inside her mind all her life. She dismissed it as a dream for so long,
but now was not the time to forget. It was a time to remember. Her heart felt
the tug when he walked into the club. Then he came over to her and she was
certain that she was destined for something. Her years being a so-called white
witch had given her an advantage to him, but there was also something more
magical about him than she could fathom. She wanted him in the worst way and for
some twist of fate she didn’t understand, fate seemed to be taking a hand in
this. If she was supposed to be with him, she wondered… then why was she
sleeping in the top bunk of her bed? Allura was sound asleep and Mena was
astounded by the way the pretty princess could sleep through such turmoil. She
knew that Allura was having the same feelings she felt budding in the hollow of
her own stomach. She couldn’t just sit back and enjoy the tickle that fluttered
every time he touched her that night. For there were also another set of eyes
that haunted her… a pair of blood red ones… and then the seven others that stood
in the circle… She was a newcomer to this circle… and she felt uncomfortable to
say the least. She took a good look around trying to make out the faces of these
people she would call friends. She
thought one of them looked an aweful lot like Allura but she did not stay to
make sure. The red eyes pierced her soul and made her feel a hatred she did not
know could be real. She ran… from those blood red eyes and into the arms of the
one that called after her…
~Who
are you? Identify yourself…~ He had screamed…and then a light from something in
his hand flickered … it was blue and it seemed to burn his hand. He held the
sapphire jewel with grace and ease. Yes he knew what to do… even if it was an
unconsious effort. His brown hair blew in the breeze and the night took on a
navy hue. The moon seemed to shine right on them splitting the air around them
as he ran after her.
When
he did catch her, he turned her around and their eyes locked, followed by their
lips. And for some reason they knew each other.
~Lance…
you’re alive…~ Mena’s voice called out into the dark night, echoing through the
trees. An owl hooted in the distance as Lance turned to go. ~ Don’t go… you
never finish the dream… ~ She said as he started to release her from his
embrace.
~I don’t belong
here… I don’t know what I am doing… you seem so… so familiar. Like I know you. I
am sorry for the kiss, I mean er… I must go… I can’t deal with this.
~
~But
you must Dragon Lance…~
~Er…
um… PUHLEEZE stop with that… I am neither weapon nor pawn in some Terran fantasy
role-playing game… ~
~Those
stories come from somewhere my Dra… Lance… Every legend has a source and
folklore is not a myth. The universe once lived in a time where they did not
know about us… they did not know that there were other planets. Back when Terra
was called Earth. Our history became a method of entertainment and delighted
people of all ages. Not knowing real magic existed. The tales told so long ago
were real my lord. Our heritage may have been a way of stories and songs but
they were far from fairytales. Remember… things are never what they seem. You
are a mage my…. ~ Mena looked down at the ground. Lance did not move he was
afraid to. What she said made perfect sense…
~Did
any of us ever exist when Terra was called Earth?
~
~
Our souls may have… there was no way that Earth could have known about the
distant planets… such as your Arus and our Vovin. They did not have the means…
but they did hear our tales…
“Earth” until after the twenty-fifth century did not have the technology
to travel past it’s own Galaxy. We
have existed for centuries… Our kind that is… and our home was destroyed by
Zarkon… and my… my mother. She holds the red ruby staff and she is after one
mate… if she finds you she will kill you. ~
~If
she wants a boyfriend why can’t she just marry Lotor… I mean they are both evil
and blue with pointy ears ~
~It’s
not so simple… the curse your mother put on her, well, it has a loop
hole…~
~How
do you know all this? ~
~I
don’t know… it just is here… inside my head… like it was locked away for so long
and needed a key to open it. You are the KEY Lance… to many things.
~
~What
is this ‘Loop hole’? ~Lance eyed Mena a bit
skeptical.
~
If
Myraana could find one mate, with the heart of a lion, the essence of a king,
and the quality of a hero… her spell would be broken ~
~How
do we stop her? ~
~We
wait… we do not know who she is after. ~
Lance’s
face fell, he looked as if he were thinking about something… something that had
happened.
~You
are alright? Your crystal glows once more in you hand.
~
~I
know who she’s after… and why she didn’t get her way.
~
~Who?
~ Mena’s eyes grew wide.
~Keith…
my friend Keith… damn him why does he hafta be so damned noble? ~ Lance said
angrily.
~It’s
not his fault… it just means she has failed before… for she is still part
dragon. ~
~What
do you mean? ~
~You
mother turned her into what she is… because she is evil… and she killed your
father for that reason… because he was the one that could have broke her spell…
he turned her down and paid for it with his life. Now I am afraid you are not
only a weapon anymore my lord… you are a guardian. ~
~You mean WE are guardians… we are in this together… now. ~
He took her hand… and they
close their eyes.
