Yoroiden Samurai Troopers OVA I: Gaiden
This OVA series came out the summer after the TV series ended. The timeline puts it around mid August of 1989.

Volume 1: Yoroi Senshi Futatabi! (Again the Yoroi Soldiers!)

    It is nighttime in New York and Korin yoroi *the Halo armor* stumbles upon a gang of African Americans. They tease him for being dressed strangely and assume he's either drunk or stoned. They decide to attack and Korin fights back by picking up gang members and kills them. Korin turns on the rest of the gang and proceeds to kill them, too. We see the armor is empty and Seiji *Sage* is not inside. Screams are heard in the alley and dogs howl. Korin stumbles on but a strange red mist pours out of it. The empty armor floats and see the image if a really ugly man *And I mean really really ugly!!* who apparently is controlling the armor.
    It's Ryo's sixteenth birthday *Happy Birthday, Ryo!* and his friends are throwing him a party in a hotel in Shinjuku. He is dressed up in a tux and he arrives. The elevator doors open and his friends surround him. Shuu *Kento* won the the lottery so he's throwing the party. Everyone is there but Seiji, who is on a trip in New York City. Ryo wishes his friend was here and Nasuti *Mia and they call her Nasti for short* is worried because they have not heard from Seiji.
    Halfway through the party, Ryo sees a news flash on the TV above him that in New York City, a mysterious armor was involved in a murder. Ryo recognized the stylized lightening symbol for Korin's armor and he and Nasuti realize something is wrong.
    Several days later, Ryo is on a plane headed to New York and is surprised when Shuu *Kento* and Shin *Cye* pop up behind him. Shin tells him that Ryo shouldn't have gone without him and that Nasuti, Touma *Rowen*, and Jun *Yuli, why is he here? Don't he got parents to watch him at home? The Ronin saved the world so stop bothering them. GO HOME!!!* are already investigating in New York. In NYC, Nasuti, Touma, and Jun ask a reporter in the Times building about the photographer who took photos of the green armor the night the attack occurred. Around the corner, a African American girl eyes them warily.
    The plane that Ryo, Shuu, and Shin are on is attacked by a strange apparition as the plane enters New York City air space. This ghost appears by Ryo's window and he sees a glimpse of the face. It's the ugly man again. The apparition flies by gain and manages to cut off part of the plane's tail, forcing the plane to land in the harbor. Meanwhile, Touma goes to the photographer's home and sees the man murdered. he pulls out the knife and that same girl who was watching them from before sees him with the bloody knife and screams, "Murder!" and runs away. Touma chases after her to try to straighten things out but he loses her. The girl is hiding in shadows and watches Touma.
    That night, the gang meets up at Shuu's uncle's restaurant to discuss their investigations. Nasuti had gone to Columbia University where Seiji had supposedly been invited to attend an exhibition or lecture on Japanese blades and specifically on blades from his own family's clan. However, the university claims nothing of the sort had occurred and Seiji Date was never called to come there. There was no exhibition. Uncle Chin *Kento's uncle*  welcomes them to New York and offers to let them stay at the restaurant when Nasuti tells him they haven't found a place to stay. Then Ryo, Shuu and Shin show up. Shuu scolds his uncle for being so familiar with Nasuti and says Nasuti was their big sister and  he flicked off Uncle Chin's hand from Nasuti's shoulder. *Jealous, maybe?*
    Suddenly, we heard crashes and the waitresses run screaming from the kitchen as that girl runs out crying revenge and tries to stab Touma with her knife. Touma jumps out of the way and Ryo stops her but she runs off before anyone could question her. Shuu wants to chase her but Ryo stops him since she probably has nothing to do with them. Touma mutters that she already considers them an enemy.
    The girl is running through the old subway, asking forgiveness from her older brother for not being able to avenge him. In her room where she is brushing her hair, she picks up a photo of her and her brother and starts to cry. She swears she will avenge his death. Her older brother is the gang member *Not the photgrapher, a common mistake among people.* that flicked out a knife to try and stop the possessed Korin armor in the beginning.
    Somewhere, Seiji is experiencing nightmares. These nightmares are allowing his armor to be controlled against his will. In the nightmare, he's running through a house and he is surrounded by Korins. He fights the multiple armors and manages to get outside. He turns around and sees himself as a giant. The giant picks him up and squeezes him. Seiji is screaming in pain and . Seiji's pain reaches Ryo's mind and wakes him up in the room that he's sharing with Shin.
    Shuu and Touma are eating hamburgers at a fast food restaurant. Shuu is mad so he's stuffing his face with hamburgers and Touma teases him. Screams are heard and people run past the window. Touma and Shuu run outside and they see the Korin armor attacking people. Touma and Shuu armor up to defend the people. Shuu yells at the Korin armor telling him that they'll won't tolerate this but that's when they see that Seiji isn't in the armor. Even as they're fighting, a crowd watches and cheers. Shuu asks what are those idiots doing and why don't they get away so he can use his sure kill. Among the crowd is the mysterious girl.
    The battle starts getting messy and the NYPD and the army are called in. Ryo and Shin catch the news report in Uncle Chin's restaurant and they race to get there. *Literally, running really fast in their subarmors.* By the time they get there, Shuu and Touma have been severely beaten by the Korin armor. Touma can barely get up. To make it worse, the army began firing on them from above in helicopters. As the bullets ricochet off harmlessly, the Troopers gather the injured and run. The Korin armor has already escaped but not before the ugly man, Shikaisen, shows himself to them. He marvels as he sees more yoroi  *Armor. I'll be using them interchangeably so don't get confused.* and says he wants theirs, too. Running from the soldiers and police officers, Ryo and Touma separate from Shuu and Shin to evade their pursuers. Touma is hurt so they rest in an alley. Ryo sees something and the mysterious girls steps out and tells the two to follow her to safety.

Volume 2: Tomo o Sukue Samurai Heart (Save our friend, Samurai Heart)

    Running through the subway, the three escapees run from the police. Touma and Ryo have returned to their civilian clothes. They hide under the subway track platforms and enter deeper within the tunnel. The stop underneath an old abandoned water filtration plant and the Ryo thanks them for helping them. The girl tells him that her name was Luna and the reason why she was following them. She proceeds to bandage Touma's leg. Luna is after her brother's murderer and she realizes that he wasn't them because they fought against the green armor. Shuu and Shin appear overhead and Shuu sees Luna. He quickly runs down still thinking she wants to kill Touma but he is stopped by Ryo. The misunderstanding is cleared up and Shin laughs at Shuu for jumping to conclusions.
    Meanwhile, Uncle Chin's restaurant is attacked by Shikaisen's ninjas. The same scene where the waitresses run out screaming replays and Uncle chin is trying to defend Nasuti and Jun. He gets beat up after putting up a good fight and  the ninjas succeed in kidnapping Nasuti and Jun. The trooper return to a messed up restaurant and beaten up Uncle chin. Uncle chin blames himself for failing but shuu tells him he did his best. The Troopers find a message telling them to go to Japantown in Los Angeles.
   At that time, a festival is interrupted and destroyed in Little Tokyo in Los Angeles. Nasuti and Jun are tied up and forced to witness the deaths of all the people.
    When they return to the wrecked restaurant, the Troopers decide that after Touma has recovered, they'll go after Shikaisen. That evening, Ryo is standing by himself on a bridge when Luna appears. She begs hi to let her come along because she needs to find her brother's killer. Ryo says it's too dangerous so Luna starts crying and hugs him tightly. Ryo looks at Luna and there is a "moment" between them.
    The next day, all six of them *Luna managed to convinced Ryo* are walking through the ruins of the festival. Shuu is slightly mad that Luna managed to come along, *still doesn't like Luna too much* and Shin teases him saying that Luna is now another sister but Shuu replies he doesn't want such a wild sister. Using the yoroi spheres *They're the kanji marble balls to summon the armor*, they're drawn to a cemetery where they are attacked by Shikaisen's ninjas. The Troopers defeat the ninjas easily in subarmor and Luna cheers on Ryo. Shuu saves Luna from one of the ninjas but she's too busy cheering on Ryo to notice. *Some gratitude, huh?*  The remaning ninjas run inside a temple and the Troopers plus Luna give chase. The inside is dark and they walk into Shikaisen's trap by , well, walking into it on a trapdoor. And as trapdoors go, they fall and land in some water. All except Luna who used her knife to anchor herself against the wall above the water.
The mad scientist greets them and activates a beam that electrocutes the Troopers. Nasuti and Jun swings on their rope to knock the scientist away from the console. Immediately the Troopers are free and they jump up out of the water to free Nasuti, Jun and Seiji.
    Ryo holds the scientist hostage while Nasuti frees the Korin yoroi from all the wires. The computer has been gathering and analyzing data about the armors, trying to harness and control the mystic power. When Shikaisen appears again, Seiji armors up and attacks him. But Shikaisen activates the computer and the five warriors are trapped in his magical seals. *6 pointed stars that strap the Troopers to them*  The mad scientist, holding Nasuti off by gunpoint, is analyzing the data from the other Troopers and their armors and doesn't notice Jun pulling himself up from the side. Unfortunately, Shikaisen sees him and would have killed him if Luna didn't jump in from the side trying to avenge her brother.*I think the Yuli-haters are disappointed that Yuli was not killed off and the Ryo-lovers are glad that Luna died.*
    Shikaisen easily knocks her away and the mad scientists shoots her. Jun used that moment to distract the scientist so Nasuti can deactivate the seals. Ryo breaks out of his and rushes to Luna. She says "Ryo.." before dying in Ryo's arms. *She was trying to say that she was glad she met him.*  Ryo cries and armors up in tears along with the other Troopers. Ryo fights him alone and blasts Shikaisen with his So En Zan *Flare Up Now!* and Shikaisen melts. The mad scientist is killed by Shikaisen. *Probably for being an idiot. He was ugly, too.* But Shikaisen merges with the computer and creates projection of Arago *Talpa*. Having analyzed all their yoroi, the computer easily counters their attacks. The Troopers realize that the Kikoutei *Inferno* armor hasn't been analyzed yet so they call on the Kikoutei to destroy it. The computer goes haywire as this new surge of yoroi power overwhelms it and the computer is destroyed. Back in New York, on the same bridge that Luna convinced Ryo to let her tag along, the Troopers throw flowers in Luna's memory. Ryo throws a white flower with Luna's yellow hair ribbon tied to it. *Looks like the Brooklyn bridge but not sure*
    The ending credits show Ryo's birthday party in New York. Once again in a tux, he carries an invitation written in English instead of Japanese going up an elevator. The elevator is one of those that are outside a building so you can see the streets below. He looks out the window and is blinded by sunlight. But when his vision clears, he sees all his friends in a hot air balloon carrying a sign saying "Happy Birthday, Ryo!" with little armors as the balloon. *Wondered where they bought it. it's cute!*
