She finally sighted the Companion, laying peacefully in a meadow not far from the road. She dropped down beside it silently, noting that it seemed to be asleep.
:Windance, I Choose you!:
His triumphant mind-voice startled her so much she fell over. Right onto the meddlesome horse. :I am not a horse!: Tarin, for
that was his name, stated indignantly.
“Well, then, what are you?”
she asked, pushing off of him, failing to bring forth her life long hatred of
the fabled Companions at the stunning feeling of belonging his words and
bright-blue eyed gaze had awoken in her.
:Companion: he replied
promptly. He sent a questing mind touch, soothing her as only a Companion could
to his Chosen. :We go to Haven?:
he asked, questioningly.
“How should I know where to go? You’re the one who Chose me.” Her thoughts were somehow content, with nothing remaining now of her hatred to the silver horses, only total and complete faith and awe.
:I will take you to our
home. Come.: he remained on the
ground, but obviously waiting for her to mount. And she did not miss the plural, either.
“This isn’t a good idea,” she
said dubiously, “I’ve never ridden before. I’ll fall off.”
:That’s what I’m for, Chosen.:
Still questioning the
intelligence behind the notion, she gingerly settled her self onto the ornate
saddle. And quickly grabbed the pommel,
tightly, so she wouldn’t fall off as Tarin rose gracefully. He walked quickly out of the dark forest,
onto the road, near where she had been guarding and had met him earlier. :We will only be on the road for two
days, at the most, so we may as well go there straight. You may sleep on my back, as I am not
tired.:
She smiled at the gesture, and
from the images she picked up from her Companion, she could very well do
so. His smooth pace picked up as soon
as they reached the paved road, and he sped towards the heart of the realm,
Haven.
A.N.: I know it’s short, but the next chapter will be out soon, I
